the purp0se of self guilt , shame, keeps one c0nnected to god, it's a c0nstant reminder to be consciously aware 0f 0ur creat0r. it's imp0ssile as a human to be good enough in god's eye, hence his grace, but it is somewhat a torturous existence. i really feel one of the most important purposes of this actually relates not to oneself , but to overall civility. the fear 0f sinning and it's consequences is probably one of the biggest predictors of conscientiousness. if this world was full of conscientious people it would be as close to heaven as you can get.

Wow! Your dive into the Popul Vuh stirred quite a few thoughts and connections in my mind. I'll prevous this by saying that my musings here are pure conjecture but fun for me none the less. I'm a big fan of comparative mythology/religion/philosophy. When you mentioned the duality of Venus' association with both good and bad, and bringing adherents to the light and the underworld, I couldn't help but think about the Christian Morning Star (Venus) being an alternate name for both Jesus and the Devil. Earlier in the video you mentioned the god associated with Venus blasting darts at victims. I thought Cupid for a moment, but that might be more of a mythological cognate or coincidence. When you investigated the jaguar serpent god, I started thinking about the ouroboros. Perhaps it takes a break from eating itself in order to spew forth life. If missionaries both destroyed and preserved these texts, how much of their translations were influenced by western traditions either consciously or unconsciously? Even more interesting, does this point to even more evidence of some sort of proto people that time has forgotten save for a few clues in ancient texts? Thank you for both the relaxing and insightful content. 😊👍
You MUST have a philological background, right? The way you approach, analyze and interpret texts is very sophisticated and feels familiar to me. It even reminds me of the literature lectures I attended at university and feeds my passion for meaningful cultural documents like books, paintings and music.
