Honestly it really amazes me, that despite these guys spending most of their lives isolated from films we all grew up with and the cultural differences between our upbringings, how well they grasp and understand context and plot of these stories! One thing I've always found interesting about the comic world is how they incorporate real world concerns into their stories. To the best of my knowledge, there have been three different explanations as to what affected the spider the bit Peter; the first version saw it affected by electricity, then radiation (during the Cold War), and by the time the 2002 Raimi movies rolled around, it was genetic engineering, a field that was still largely unknown and therefore a source of fear. Also, can someone please tell the gentlemen Norman wasn't acting innocent, and that when the Goblin personality takes over, Norman is oblivious to what his body has done.
The best thing about Jameson is that even if on the surface he seems like a soulless capitalist willing to sell off anything to make a profit, when his life was literally on the line which being manhandled by the green Goblin he did not give Peter up. @@ericheckenkamp6091 Exactly. That's a complaint about Spider-Man 3 I've never voiced. Hobgoblin is supposed to be every bit as sadistic as his father, not an emo edgelord.
Willem as Norman Osborne was the perfect choice as Ryan Reynolds was to Deadpool or Robert Downey Jr. was to Tony Stark. I will say though, there have been pretty spot on castings for villains as well through the years. Josh Brolin as Thanos, Heath Ledger as Joker, or Tom Hiddleston as Loki. Raeen and Babu fighting because Raeen talked about old people was reallly cute, Babu is a very stoic person but this matters to him because he loves him and cares about his opinion.
So, at the end, Peter rejected Mary Jane because he knows that those he loves will be threatened as long as he is Spider-Man. There's always the risk of an enemy finding out who he is and those he loves could suffer. Peter is going to live by his Uncles words. With great power comes great responsibility.
