She let Lianfang run the household out of pure bias. There was absolutely nothing wrong with Shiyi. Whether she believed Shiyi to be incapable or not it was her right to run the household after she became the legitimate wife.
When Lingyi's brother burned his opera books, I know it was meant to be symbolic, to show he was giving up his hobby for a more mature new self, but I couldn't help but think he could have sold those books to help support his family, especially since they had said those books were be pricey.
I thought the same thing when the Ou guy threw the red jade bracelet in the water. Like give it to someone who needs it. What are the fishes going to do with it? 😂😂😂
I love that her brother and sisters in law read between the lines and realized something was wrong with the explanation of why Lingyi was stabbed. They spoke up for Shiyi to great madam and they have my full respect. Too bad her words are law. I also like how the maids stayed loyal and tried their best to take care of her even though she lost interest with living. The trauma great madam went thru when the Ou family destroyed them must have been intense. You can tell she’s reliving the terror and trying to figure out how to survive the next wave of attack on her family by the Ou. She must have sacrificed a lot to keep her kids safe. The Marquis had to have sacrifice a lot to get the Shu family back it’s honor and riches and make sure his mama live in comfort even though she keep forcing concubines on him. If she had been thinking straight she would have kept Shiyi, since Shiyi was the one that saved the family name at least once from the Ou’s attack.
True.. I remember her introducing Shiyi as the fourth daughter in law and the princess was sometimes referred to as 5th madam. Yizhen was 2nd madam. That means old madam had at least 5 kids. 3 of them plus her husband died last time. I still can't help hating her coz she's always trying to kick Shiyi out...like your son knew she stabbed him but still covered for her. He must have had reasons. Respect his decision! If it was Liangfan then she would have somehow manage to reward her instead of punishing her. A person who has gone through so much and survived like her should have more wisdom and presence of mind.

There lots of trial and tribulations but the truth will always prevail. This is my second time to watch, all the actors involve did an excellent job in their roles given. In this case, I think the guilt from stabbing him stops her from defending herself, even if it was an accident. Plus, growing up as an illegitimate daughter of a prominent family, I imagine she expected to be treated this way, it never bothered her before because she didn't particularly respect harem people. Her father wouldn't lift a finger without the word of his legal wife, her mother was bullied by the legal wife mainly for the fact that she was concubine, and she wasn't treated that much better as a concubine's daughter. I doubt she expected much from her in-laws to begin with.
Lingyi's mom never liked Shiyi in the first place and Shiyi dug her own grave by stabbing Lingyi by mistake and she doesn't even know how to explain it to people that it was really an accident, she didn't do it on purpose.... And the fact that she's realising everything later especially loving Lingyi after she has hurt him is really sad but I guess it's a lesson learnt for her.

I guess so, when you are not Great Madame’s niece all the family rules are impartially unleashed
Consistency in the plots is a real problem in many dramas. Death for Shiry but a nunnery for the murderous concubine. Not logical at all.
First part is correct. She should have gone to her husband instead of the other guy. She trusted others not her husband
Difference is, Lingyi is great madame Xu’s son, whereas Yuan Niang was her daughter-in-law, non blood relations. Besides, the survival of the entire Xu family rely on the marquis, his death could mean the collapse of the family.
Xu Lingyi has never lost a battle, in her mind, he wouldn’t have “died” if he wasn’t injured by Shiyi ( even though it was an accident ), so great madame’s anger is comprehensible.
And now Shiyi got banished to the tarm and be treated as a servant. Young Ou Lin and his attendant helped.

I’m kind of surprised that the Great Madam did not have a stroke or heart attack when interrogating Shiyi. Shiyi was acting like a big dummy. It was an accident but everyone thought she did it on purpose.
