I had a '85 XL 250R as the second bike I ever bought. Rode it since 1997 and bought it from a friend in 2000. Wait a second, i still have it. Will be reregistered next Tuesday after a decade of hiatus.😅
I had one exactly like this in 85'. Fun bike, rode it to school. Once in a parking lot about to start up an old guy was glaring at me with anger in his eyes. Once started, I popped the clutch and brought the front end straight up! The old guys face lit up and his jaw hit the floor. I Always remember that. A great memory.
I had one of those when i was 15, we bought one for cheap (me and a friend) learned to wrench on that engine, with a bit of help we got it running decent, also leaned to ride on it, had loads of fun times, prob want one for myself someday just for some litthe cruising around, the long suspension is great for going over speedhumps, wich we have a lot of over here.. also the power is decent enough it makes for a fun ride!
Never been so excited, just picked up an 87 xl250r for eight hundo! Runs great an looks pretty damn good if you can believe it. Those distant memories are flooding back. Ole girl on the back off in the Alabama woods...gotta pull over under the shade tree and let it cool down lol... I'm in my 50z so it doesn't take much. Can damn fosho remember being 16yrs old, these kids nowdays live in a whole different world. Advice to young people...get a bike, get a girl, get in the bushes and get a clue
I bought one four years ago with legal licence for 500 EURO only. Yes, for five hundreds. Since that time I bought only Hondas as mine 1989 hero survived the last 3 decades although it is an Australian version - finally landed in Hungary in my garage.
I still have my '84 XR-250R that used to race in the OCCRA in 84 and 85. only 4 stroke in a class of CR's, YZ's, RM's, and KX's. Got a second in Stillwater. Should have won, but I had to stop and clean out my contacts! grrr that front disc brake was a game changer. And that dual carb RFVC motor would SCREAM through the woods. One of my treasured pics is me jumping through the (now defunct) I-35/I-40 race course. Came from 19th to finish 4th, after some idiot cooked it in the first turn, and crashed in front of me. And this was pretty much a no woods wide open track. XR's rule 😉
Used to have one of those, love it when the 2nd carb opened up! Have you squeezed the two carb prongs together (ever so slightly) yet to atomize the fuel better/also a more noticeable throttle response joe?
It's a candy! There are 305cc big bore kits on these, but they are even more rare now. Honda should put some of these eighties best-looking models back in production, limited run. Without changing the looks.
Honda made the greatest enduro‘s since the SL days my uncles and Family rode enjoy Honda XL’s and Sadly after Riding two bikes a 1972 Moto sport XL 250 and 1980XR 250 to the ground i was Lucky to have purchased very nice used 1985 XL600 in 1986 but sadly ignored it and it will need carburetor and gas tank cleaning
The 84 xl250r I used to have was pretty fast compared to my 01 xr250r, probably 1 or 2 hp. less if guessing. It was definetly way ahead of the crf230l and even the newer crf250l, as well as the klx250 I rode. It could hit 80 mph and I loved that it was a 6 speed. Wish Honda would bring it back updated with disc brakes and better suspension!
Great bikes im a honda xr collector . Really enjoyed watching this i mean SENDING IT out the shop down there large step 😁then a lap round your property first before the talk through shows what the bikes are capable of in a experts hand like yourself. Does senior go off that step? Sure he can but dont think i seen him do it 👍👍👍
I just sold my 86. The red white blue version. It went to my brother in law so I know where it is... great example for a wonderful platform. Oh yah, 69th thumbs up. Meh...!
Looking at all these old motorcycles I can't help but think, What the fuck happened to motorcycles? Why do we feel the need to add more digital features when you can have all of the control of the machine??
And the XL is really light compared to bikes nowadays. 258lb dry or 285lb wet is not that much. And you could even lose another 10lb or so if you leave the battery at home. The only things that don't work without the battery are the indicators.

A friend and I restored his 1985 Honda XL250R. When I was a senior in high school I bought a brand new 1987 Honda XL250R, best bike I had.

I'm a twin shock bike person but if you twist my arm I'll have one. XL 250 the holy grail of trail engines.❤
What a beautiful piece of machinery.
+1 Had an XL125 when I was 12 years old... Marvelous machine it was, indestructible...
*Crap Game*
That's a fantastic all around cruiser my Uncle rode one of those thru the Baja 1000 back in 84.
I learned to ride on one of those. 👍

I owned the 1985 version of this bike and loved it!
I had rm's and yz's in the 80's but a friend had one of these which I rode a few times and was impressed

You don't realize how often Kenny refrains from saying "wicked" until you hear Kyle talk.

I just got a 84 350 XL R mint
125 psi is low compression. Sure the compression check was done correctly??? Should be a lot higher especially at your low elevation.
I thought the same!
Great Motorcycle !
Another one I want
Nice.. love it.
Please tell me this is going to auction. I'd love to have it. Its a beauty!!
Yes tonight at www.kaplancycles.com
Did he say wicked responsive? Nice bike. Nothing wicked about its performance unless you've only ridden a trail 70
Nice!

same with cars. Everything is getting super high tech but the pure joy of operating a machine is slowly fading away.
@@ahogQ Agreed
