- I review the 1982 Honda enduro! Put simply, I think its beautiful, Honda was hitting their stride and it shows with the looks and the quality! If your looking for a bike that can take in town, down a trail or camping you have to see this!
I have a "1983" that I bought from Meridian Honda in Fayetteville North Carolina,... brand new...when I was in 82nd Airborne (Army),...I still drive it everyday,... it's never been apart... and has 31,000 mile's on it,... license, tax, title, and inspection,... along with it's cost was $1172.00 at that time,... one of the best investment's I've ever made,... and still look's very good,.... thank's for the video..........
I also have a 1983 that I bought brand new in Feb 84. I won't ever sell it. Have just over 12,000 miles on it and it's perfect for kicking around and exploring. Great MPG and it's taken me places I wouldn't have been without it and some places I shouldn't have gone to begin with. It's awesome.
I payed 1620 $ new in Stockton California, loosing it tomorrow in a lien-sale
Bought a badly abused 84 XR200 no oil crankcase /. Air filter wheetbix. / Front sprocket welded on / caked in mud / cleaned serviced last another 10 yrs. 💪
Cycle World magazine clocked the 1982 XL250R at 79 mph in 1982. The retail price for this bike in 1982 was $1698, and it appears in the movie Firstborn, released in 1984, if anyone wants to check it out.
Great bikes! I have one here in the UK. Comfortable, reliable, cheap to run, fun to ride on or off road and still looks great. What’s not to like.
I got one a little while ago. I am in love with this bike, every time I cruise it I can’t stop smiling.
I had one new - I rode the wheels off it on the farm for 10 years, I red lined it everywhere I went! It never broke down, never needed anything done to it other than chains and spockets, and a regular oil change. If you want a super reliable bike, this would be top of my list.
I guy who was probably born the late 90s early 2000s commenting on what life was like in the 80s LOL!!!
I’ve seen a lot of this lately, goes to show that all the good stuff was before their time, and wadis for this young chap admitting it!!!
Lol it is true, I was not alive in the 80’s as I was born in 91. I like the music and movies from that time though, not to mention all the great cars and motorcycles. Truly a golden era.
Ive got one and it’s got about 42000 km on it and she still runs like a champ. It’s got some work done to it it tops out at 125kmh. In my opinion it’s probably one of the most reliable bikes to come out of the 80s
Just picked up an 82 xl500 and absolutely love it!
Wow, your 1982 model is beautiful for real ! I just purchased a 1983 XL250R and I love it. It’s a beauty too, only 1300 miles. Very nostalgic, and takes me back to the better days for sure.
Woah that’s super low miles! And thanks! They’re a blast from the past 😎
Mine has almost 15,000
Kya yeh Bharat me mil sakti hai kya
Absolutely right! These bikes are not only bullet proof, they are also easy to service and repair. I have the early predecessors (XL250K0, 3 of these). If I should pick a bike to cross the Sahara, I would choose one of these early XLs.
BTW, you definitely need to wear boots to kickstart this bike. Friend of my miskicked it and got rewarded with a bruised ankle. Still, when riding any motorcycle, protective clothing is a must.
Excellent video brother!!! You did great man!
Hey thanks! Glad you liked it! Tried to do a good amount of research to pass on good info for someone considering a bike like this.
@@Backyard_Motorsports I’m going to look at em really nice ‘84 tomorrow. If price is right, she’s coming home with me as an Xmas gift to my self! Cheers!
@@gettindrunker best of luck! I hope Christmas comes early🎄
My dad had one and was the coolest guy I knew
The best thumbnail I’ve ever seen!!
Haha thank you my friend!
I really enjoyed this review, thank you
No problem, it’s a great bike!
Beautiful 😊
I totally agree but the 350 is even better!
A couple first for this year. Pro-link and a 12 volt system. 👍
1st 6 speed and first kick start relief valve
I own an '82 xr500r and kickstarting it is just a breeze. Summer months you do need to put it in halfchoke sometimes but honestly, hold the decompression lever down and give it about five or so kicks, get it tdc and give it a solid kick and it starts up like it can't wait to get revving. If you do fuck up though, it'll hurt. Just don't fuck up. Haha
Haha sounds like you have it down though. I’m curious what a bigger XL feels like, probably has some nice torque
@Backyard Motorsport it's my first and currently only bike so I can't compare it to much, though I can tell you my experiences so far riding trails around my house. First and second chug along like nothing, you can let it idle in first gear and it'll pull you up hills if you let it. First and second have lots of torque, I usually stay in second for slower parts and third to pick up some speed. First is really short, if you're pulling away from a stop, you have to upshift quick or you'll find the end of first before you know it. Engine braking is massive in first and second but once you hit third it flies and smooths out a lot. I don't know if this is just a characteristic of my bike or dirtbikes or just all bikes, but that's been my experience. The clutch pull is literally the first few mm of pull and the rest is basically freeplay, so the jerkiness of the wire throttle in conjunction with the really small clutch engagement zone can be something people dislike, but once you find that sweet spot on where the throttle just begins to open, the torque just pulls away. It's a lovely bike, leaves a smile on my face after every ride.
Edit: *cable throttle
@@musiclover44551 yeah first gear sounds the same on my bike. That’s cool it can just idle and pull itself haha
@@Backyard_Motorsports yeah, I was surprised to learn that's not the case for other bikes, first time riding it I just let it pull itself along while learning the controls and balance.
Have that same bike, bought new for 1620 dollars. Tomorrow , June 11, I am loosing that bike in storage, going to auction off because I am behind in rent. That's not the worst, I am also loosing my Snap-On roll away loaded with tools worth at least 20,000 grand. Some person will probably buy my unit for a grand and my source of income will be no more. I am 62 now, what the hell am I supposed to do?. Oh Ya, I also loosing my other storage unit filled with tools, another 10,000 grand lost at least. The only thing I have left is my Sammie Longdog already gave away a 1971 SS Elcamino I had for 40 years. Ground up build and alot of $ in the power train. Why???? Because I am a automotive machinest or I use to be when I had my tools. Now my empty dead sole feels useless. I am done ,ready to move on to the after-life. Come soon I can only pray for😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Funny story about 600 kick start I have a dr600 and my mate shuttered all the bones between his toes and his he ankle he didn't use the decompression lever to find top dead kick the bike Kickstarter smashed straight back into his foot shattered his foot 8 weeks in a moon boot 😅
That is a nightmare story. I have a friend with a Xl600 and you have to remember the compression release lever. Lol
@@Backyard_Motorsports I have an '85 XL250R and find it really hard to find TDC and more often than not it takes a while before it fires. I have not heard about the compression release lever used to find it. What should I be doing?
I have a 1978 Honda XL 250 it's pretty dope but the 80s model looks the same
Sweet
Mine has nearly 15,000 km
HAD 1 THERE LITERLY BULLIT PROOF THEY RUN FOR EVER GRATE STREET BIKE
I have the same bike. How did u edit the video? It’s kind a hard for me to edit with the bright red
I use davinci for my editing software and yeah color can be tricky. I’m using log footage from a canon camera. My buddy made a video recently on color editing with this program and uses examples from this video:
ruclips.net/video/Frc3tIcimNM/видео.html
Hope this helps!
Thanks man❤️ If u want you can check my XL in my channel✌🏻
Hey awesome video i have a slight question...Does this bike fit two people ? i
Yes it does, at least mine had pegs
“Is it just me, or did the Honda red just look different in the 80s?”.
You weren’t around in the 80s my guy, maybe would have been better if you had interviewed someone about this bike, who actually was.
It’s a credibility thing.
1982: Blade Runner and The Thing.
Who carries an extra wheel with them?
If you go to the desert you might bring haul them with a truck or trailer and have a spare.
what's the seat height?
33.3” from what I found online, i no longer have the bike. I’m 6 2” and it was a fairly tall bike.
@@Backyard_Motorsportswhy did you sell?
@@outlawwill5483 the condition was so nice and original, I was afraid to ride it.
@@Backyard_Motorsports ok
@@Backyard_Motorsports I don’t have that problem
pov down roads. BORING. why do people do this? you get NO sense of power, look, speed, grade. nada.
