Hi Andrew, at 12:10 those are the Haskeir (not to be confused with the nearby Heisker) islands you can see. Definitely not the Shiants, which are in The Minch! In between the darker Haskeir islands, nearer the left hand group of three as seen from here, but further away and hence rather faint is the island of Boreray, part of the St Kilda archipelago and easily the most spectacular island in Scotland (in my opinion!); truly "The Land That Time Forgot". It's about 66 km (41 miles) from North Uist and rises to a height of 384 m (1,260 ft). To the left of the Haskeirs you can (just!) see a similarly faint Hirta, being the main island of the St Kilda group. You really must take a trip out there when circumstances allow. I can recommend Kilda Cruises who operate from Leverburgh (Harris of course) and Sea Trek at Miavig on Lewis. Sea Harris also run trips to St Kilda from Leverburgh.
D'OH! Thanks for putting me right. I couldn't tell as they were off the map. I refer to them a lot in the next video (all wrong!) so thanks to your helpful comment I can at least put a subtitle with the right information. I would love to go to St Kilda one day. I was hoping to go last year with a Uist outfit, but the guy there had trouble with his boat. It's definitely on my 'must-do' list. Thanks for the message, all the best.

Many memories of North Uist. Trying to walk to Eaval but gave up when I found too many lochans to dodge. The huge seas at the Scolpaig cliffs. Enjoyed that and, yes, that's real Hebridean weather at the beginning! We have lived on Lewis for 10 years now and I'm ashamed to say haven't done anywhere near as much walking as I planned. In fact I've done more walking in the Lake District than I have here since we moved up! Ain't that always the way, you just take what's on your doorstep for granted. There's a trig point not a mile from my front door and I've never been to it so I really ought to get to that at least. Maybe I should start making videos to force me off my backside?
Why not, Les? Or maybe even just some snaps for social media? There are many folks marooned in less beautiful places than ours who are grateful to see such sights - just take a look at some of the lovely comments to this video! Good luck!
Lovely idea for a series of walks/vlogs. Love to see the walk out on the Udal peninsula from Grenitote.....longer walk but there’s a trig point at the end! My favourite walk from N Uist last year.
Did that back in 1993 when I worked In Benbecula. An Otter ran across the long beach and once out on the peninsula saw that a university were doing an archaeological dig out there. Beautiful area.
Thank you for taking us up the hill, smile, from the parking I know well. Beautiful views! But I would like to ask you: how and from where do you get the music background? Could you name the composer?
The music is always listed in the description that is beneath the video, but you only get that description if you watch on certain devices like a computer, not on a TV. Cheers!
Such a wonderful inspiring video. Sadly I cannot get up to Scotland at the moment, instead I shall get out and about on Dartmoor where I live, and not so boggy! You have inspired me to brave the wind, although its very warm outside here in Devon and explore Dartmoor.
There you go Sandra - there's always somewhere worse and wilder to walk, so enjoy what you have. I think it's more important now more than ever before to get outside and enjoy daylight, whatever the weather!
As ever, 'it depends!' There are a few online agents to browse so you can easily search and check - but be prepared for a LONG wait for the right place ;)
I was never any good at trigonometry at skool and you managed to make it look like a heck of a detention Andrew, even harder work after hours... 🤷🏼♂️ 😳 Just kidding, trig points certainly provide some great views of their settings... 👍🏻 🐍
Thanks for sharing. I have a question, if you be so kind. Is that privately owned land or owned by Scotland? I dream of the islands and maybe I will live long enough to reach my dreams
@@andrewjditton thanks so much for the reply. It’s great that you can explore such a landscape without “no trespassing” signs every 3 meters. Hi Andrew and Dougal, ... What fun it is to find your location on Google Maps. I found the summit of Committee Road! Such a beautiful area.
It is... hope you can make it to visit the islands some day :)
Lovely idea for a series of walks/vlogs. Love to see the walk out on the Udal peninsula from Grenitote.....longer walk but there’s a trig point at the end! My favourite walk from N Uist last year.
Hush Alison - you're giving away part 2! ;) Yes, I think you'll enjoy the next part... :)
Did that back in 1993 when I worked In Benbecula. An Otter ran across the long beach and once out on the peninsula saw that a university were doing an archaeological dig out there. Beautiful area.
@@andrewjditton oops whoops 😉. Can’t wait.........it was stunning!
Cheers!
Don’t assume that higher ground will be less boggy. My experience of of walking in Scotland is that bogs can be found anywhere
Good to know, thanks. Obviously this was the case this time.
So Andy they clearly haven't seen you attempting to open the camper van door in the light breeze on the isles......lol
Wonderful ; )
There is a lot of weather in the Hebrides, but the white, sandy beaches and the machair make up for it. See you there one day.
Great views, nice to speak to you when i visited the Hebrides, have you look at geocaching to get you to other interesting places
Yes I have - but not here yet. Will have to check it out!
Great video Andrew. As usual always great content. Can I ask how much would you need for a small property in the outer Hebrides? Thankyou.
As ever, 'it depends!' There are a few online agents to browse so you can easily search and check - but be prepared for a LONG wait for the right place ;)
Hi Andrew, good to see u again, it’s been a while....
It’s beautiful up there, would recommend to wear rubber boots!
Warmest regards
I was never any good at trigonometry at skool and you managed to make it look like a heck of a detention Andrew, even harder work after hours... 🤷🏼♂️ 😳
Just kidding, trig points certainly provide some great views of their settings... 👍🏻 🐍
Pourquoi ils ne replantent pas des forêts ? ceci dit c'est très beau
Je ne suis pas sûr... mais tu peux voir qu'il ya un forêt assez grand tout proche.
Thanks for sharing. I have a question, if you be so kind. Is that privately owned land or owned by Scotland? I dream of the islands and maybe I will live long enough to reach my dreams
I have a feeling it might belong to the Laird (I might be wrong), but the law in Scotland gives right of access.
@@andrewjditton thanks so much for the reply. It’s great that you can explore such a landscape without “no trespassing” signs every 3 meters. (Can’t believe I used the metric system 😄) Just love watching your videos. I’ve been to Scotland once but never to the highlands or the islands. It really looks magical. As an aviator, I especially love watching the airport at Barra.
Love the drone video, respect to you, very lucky living there 😃. Have you got the motorcycle out yet 🏍
Sadly it's now sold James :( First time without a bike in 30 years, but it just doesn't make any sense when living here. I miss it terribly, but not prepared to move back down South where it would fit in better with everyday life.
@@andrewjditton a dirt bike would suit 😃
