    100% effort there, mate. Doing something like this the first time is always a learning experience, so dont knock yourself. Main thing was you kept the customer i the loop and i bet they know you tried your best. You did a great job

    Take the positive that what you have shown in the video, will help others not make the same mistake. I've been caught out on manufacturers suggested sealer area coverage...lol.. no where near in reality. Enjoying your journey and the warts and all approaches...cheers

    Fair play Jake for having the balls to even try and apply that stuff I’ve never used one of those sprayers I normally use a roller for sealing driveways. Keep your head up mate your doing really well and have gained a lot of knowledge now in regards to the application process. I do understand what you mean though when you do a job and everything goes wrong then your out of pocket proper nightmare 👍🏾

    That was very instructive to see. I'm thinking of doing mine which has repair patches that need blending in. I've been watching many videos and reading up on this and getting advice.
    Smartseal seem very good for advice and product and they say to apply with a long handled yard brush - the brush pulls any puddles out of the gaps and dips and allows you to work it in better and use less. Also a sprayer will overspray onto walls etc and will need cleaning and unblocking. The brush doesn't need cleaning - it will dry stiff but apparently will re-soften the next time you use it.

      All been there. I can totally get that journey home in the van. Gutted for you. I had the same experience. Legend for sharing. I wish when I'd done it I'd have carried on painting from the edges all the way through. I've only used the sprayer on block paving and imprinted concrete with no dye. My Chapin sprayer gets ruined through all the dye.
      Think you best guy on you tube for honesty and sharing tips and of course mistakes. Top humble guy.

    Good honest video. My installer of my imprinted concrete, lost a lot more. The contractors he used left a 8 inch drip left to right, he had to do it again a year later as i refused to accept it when he told me i shouldve told gis contractor where ge was going wrong. Love it now though apart from the usual cracks

    I am sorry that it didn't work out. After owning my business for over 30 years, I found that this will happen again. After decades of doing my job, I once totally forgot to order a critical component. I was left paying a crew for basically doing nothing for 3 days, till the piece got there. I did think that where you applied by brush that the stain seems to be OK. If that observation is correct, do you think that you would get a more even or consistent coverage with a paint roller, with an extension handle. It might save you all the product that ended up pooling in the joints. However, this works out, you might want to use this as an opportunity to experiment. Good luck. I hope I worded this correctly.!

    Imagine if we were all experts. I did a block paving wash and bought a lot, and i mean a lot of kiln dried sand. I only used 2 bags and took the rest back. But the time to buy, load, unload, load back on again, then unload at the store was back breaking work and hrs of my day. We all learn and as we do we get better.

    Good vid, I’m looking at sealing as part of my business. So far what I’ve seen is most of the people who do it use rollers and brushes to apply. Also I’ve been told you will use a lot of products. Witch can be an expensive job in terms of product and labour. So the key is to accurately calculate the coverage and the time and the fact you need good weather slot to do.
    But seriously thanks for the vid it’s tough showing failures but on the Positive it’s lessons learned. Stay positive.

    I’ve never done this before, but I think I would’ve opted for a roller. At least you had a go and will know for next time.

  • @ched999uk
    @ched999uk Год назад +2

    You started the right way by using a small amount of tint then building up. How much tint did you need in the end per 10 litres? Although it will have cost you at least if you take notes you will know for next time. Always take notes and read them back before quoting so you remember. It's good that you show how the real world is and not just perfect jobs.

    dunno if anyone has mentioned, have a look at a battery powered paint spray gun, will increase your spraying speed tremendously, wider and more consistent, and best yet no pumping
    cleaning a paint spray gun, you run solvent through it at the end and put the used solvent in a secondary tin and you can re-use the solvent a few times. also paint spray tips are wider and dont clog
    using a roller brush instead of a paint brush would also speed things up

    You will never get the all the same color consistently, because the original concrete is stained by years of dirt.

    • @Chrismorrison007
      @Chrismorrison007 Год назад

      Only way is to strip the sealer off and acid wash the concrete

    I don't mean to be rude but you clearly don't know what you are doing. You keep calling it a colour tint because that's what it is. It's a tint to enhance the colour below. You shouldn't change the colour . To change the colour you needs loads of tint which changes the chemical formula and becomes a paint. You also can't spray it. You need to use a natural brisol broom. Build up layers at a time. Topcoat needs anti slip or when it gets wet customer will go arse over tit. If you mix a tint and cut in around the edge you must mix enough for the whole area because you won't get the same colour. Too much sealant in one coat will blister like bubble wrap.
    If you want advice contact me. Happy to help. I've been doing this for several years.

    • @SMOUT_
      @SMOUT_  Год назад +1

      This makes a lot of sense, thankyou.
      The manufacturer of the product doesn't recommend colour changes for this reason. I think I overestimated the capability of the tint.
