Some of the scenes were filmed in the Lionel showroom, with the 1958 Showroom Layout. Lionel reused buildings from one showroom layout to the next, and I manage a replica 1949 Showroom Layout at the Wisconsin Auto Museum. Color footage of some of the buildings that were used on both the 1949 and 1958 showroom layouts has been very handy for me, to make exact replicas of the originals. So, thanks for making this available, and keeping a small piece of history alive.

I liked trains before seeing this promo by Lionel, but at 11 years old I was hooked forever. HO scale modeler ever since. Still enjoy seeing this video.

I once stumbled upon a video on the internet, which showed people controlling toy trains. The layout grew bigger and bigger, and at one point some electical problem happened. The guys had to switch and control runaway trains while one man went fixing the problem, which he did just before the trains crashed.
Sadly, I cannot find that video again. Do you have any clue concerning that video?

Your thinking of the movie Model Railroading Unlimited, it fits your description, its a movie about some boy who gets train crazy and ends up building a entire computer controlled railroad, som electrical fault causes the whole railroad to go nuts with full speed ahead.

I worked in a train and hobby store through the 90’s, and we had an official Lionel issued copy of this on VHS that we watched hundreds of times on repeat in the store. I still have most of it memorized, all these years later.
It was given to dealers for in store promotion, I don’t know if it was ever available for sale to customers.
