Thank you for sharing your positive experience with the Zojirushi Electric Skillets. Having both sizes must offer a lot of versatility in your cooking. Your feedback is much appreciated!
@@alldayieatlikeashark Your most welcome! My twin sister noticed that I was using mine almost every time she visited and then she washed the smaller one for me after Sunday dinner and commented on how easy it was to clean…..by weeks end she had her one, too. 😁
That's neat! It seems like you unintentionally inspired your twin sister to get one too, all because of how easy it is to clean. Kitchen gadgets have a way of spreading their usefulness, don't they? 😄@@sherridamron543
Thanks Pat! I'm in the market for a new e-skillet. I've been beating around an old Black and Decker and it's ready for the landfill. I was hoping to find an e-skillet that is hot enough to make pitas. 480 might just get it done. What do you think? Most e-skillets don't get hot enough to get the bread to puff. Thanks for taking the time to review this. I found it quite comprehensive.
Thanks for your video. Informative. I’ve been wanting one of these Zujirushi units for a long time and found one on eBay for a ridiculously low price, so I bought it. Looking forward to using it, especially for hot-pot type meals and soups.
If you haven't already, and since the non-stick coatings become toxic once they start to degrade with use (especially if not treated correctly), I'd recommend getting replacement nonstick pots for the unit.
The skillet looks great. I am gong to purchase one. I was glad to see there are recipes on the website also and it looks like you have some interesting ways for using the skillet. Thanks for the info.
Im totally agree with everything you said about this skillet. ^_^ I've been using this it since its first generation, your pro and con covered everything. Love your video and this skillet ^o^
this is for the serious cook. i am not that serious although i love it when i go out to eat and the chef is at my table cooking. nice video. great info.
Thank you for the informative video! We will likely be purchasing one with the information we now have in hand. As an aside, if you happen to want the user's manual, you can download it from Amazon. I will post a second comment since I don't know if RUclips allows links or if they delete comments with links.
i do! i have a couple of zojirushi thermos flasks and a few food jars from tiger. i was in hakone and tokyo, ate a ton of shabu-shabu pots, onigiris, katsu + ice and japanese sandwiches. visited as many sights as i could around ueono and a bunch of other districts.
Great review. I used for bulgogi and chinese hot pot yesterday. It convinced me to get a similar model EP-PBC10. I assume mine is smaller? Does yours have 6 cushioned feet on bottom?
How evenly is the heat distributed across the bottom of the pan? For example, I've used portable convection burner and it had a hot ring but a cooler center.
Hey Pat! We bought this after watching your video and have used it a few times now - it's been really great using it :) I saw in the cleaning and maintenance section of the manual that it says, "After cleaning the Flat Plate, wipe thoroughly with a dry cloth, set it in the Main Body and turn the power on to allow it to dry completely ... after the surface of the Flat Plate is completely dry, apply a thin layer of vegetable oil to protect the surface." Do you apply vegetable oil as well when cleaning the Flat Plate? Should we spread the vegetable oil with a folded paper towel to evenly coat the Flat Plate while the heat's on low? Not sure if we need to do this for the deeper pan too 🤔
The oil is to prevent it from rusting. You can use a clean piece of cloth or paper towel but paper towel might just absorb the oil instead of spread it.
Good review. I’d have liked a performance demonstration to show, for instance, how long it takes to get to heat and how well it maintains that heat (consistency), how well it sears and braises, etc.
Nicely done ! We are in the hunt for a dedicated nabemono pot. The one we have currently is an older Japanese cast iron pot with wooden lid on electric heater that is too small and somewhat dangerous. Also thinking about using a solo induction heater with a cast iron pot. Thank you again.
Hi, that is a very good review, makes me smile in the part where you said "I guess that is more of the pros". You said the deep pan is about 3 inches deep. I was just wondering how deep is the shallow pan?
hello Raymond. I do not have a tiger grill pan but i do agree that items are more durable when it's made in Japan. are you using the tiger grill pan? :)
Thank you, Pat, excellent presentation. I love this cooking tool, to be frank. But main Con, for me at least, is a non-stick coated aluminium. At first I thought it’s ceramic similar to Hot Pots. For that price, Zojirushi can do better. Well, it’s not my cup of tea unfortunately 😒
all day i eat like a shark Agree. I’m checking my local Mitsuwa Marketplace once in a while and all kitchen equipment has the same non-stick coating cooking surface. So, I’ll stick with my trusted Toban and Kamado-san ^^ ATB🙏🏻🍀💚
Wish Zojirushi made one awesome electric device for everything: rice cooking, nabemono, yakisoba, et al. They have a "multicooker" but not so sure how good that is.
Yes, the Zojirushi Electric Skillet, is PFOA-free. It's always a good thing to be concerned about the coatings on cookware for health and safety reasons.
@@alldayieatlikeashark I used mine for the first time yesterday. Its so quiet! Do I have to use a lot of water? I takes sometime to get to the maximum temperature. I used only half the amount of water I believe. Also, The Grill/Cook light(button)., I guess that doesn't get changed right.
I think it depends on the induction stove tops but since this electric skillet comes with its own cooking pans, it's usually not recommended to use it elsewhere. The pans may get damaged by heat that is not compatible with the base of the pan.
I think you missed the biggest “pros” of those style cooking. Cooking at the table is usually very fast since you’re just prepping raw food and then cooking at the table while everyone eats-eat, cook, eat, cook, etc. It’s one of the easiest ways to get dinner on the table fast and have a great dinner with family. After the nabe you have soup leftover for the next day. Just throw in some udon and it’s two meals in one. I wish more shops in the US sold precut thinly sliced pork and beef as that works best with with nabe mono. いただきます!
@@alldayieatlikeashark I’m from Chicago and there’s a number of Asian markets that sell sliced meat. Mitsuwa being the most common for Japanese stuff. But there HMart, a Korean market, too. I agree! While I would really recommend to get the same ingredients from Japan, it can be really expensive too. So practically, we can still use alternatives and get as close as we can to the flavor that we are after :)
Hi Heidi. Maybe because of the type of food you are cooking makes the difference. But to make sure it's not defective, you can email them and inquire about the item you purchased.
Thanks. I used the deeper one for hot pot when I realized it is slower than the thinner one. The bottom of the thinner one is fully connected with the surface, while the bottom edge of the deeper one is curve-up in a round shape and leads the space in between the outer pot. Thus, the heat is insufficient for the deeper pot. I had already contacted the company and get a replacement to see if mine was defective. If the same issue appears, that means this is some issue the engineer of Zojirushi needs to consider some type of improvement.
Absolutely! You can actually make some delicious cakes in it. It's quite versatile, so you can use it for both savory and sweet dishes. Just make sure to use a suitable cake batter, pour it into a greased skillet, and keep an eye on the temperature to ensure even cooking. You'll be surprised at how well it can handle baking tasks too.
