- Hi guys! Short one today; I had to move the old Plymouth Belvedere out of the barn to make a spot for the Renault 5... I think it'll still start and we can go around the yard... Maybe I should put it back on the road?
See you on Saturday for the SOS... Cheers!

love the show works well in my brain
That should be your daily driver perfect for the pup to jump in the back of
Never buy cars after being in the liquor store or pub .... $75 is ok though .
I see a splicey splice in your future..
The old girl deserves a Level 2 tidy for all the years she hung in there. And a 👍
That Belvedere would be the perfect daily driver
Those slant sixes are nearly indestructible!
Nearly is correct. My Father managed to kill two of them.
One of mankind's biggest faults is that he doesn't appreciate what he sees around him in his youth. Not realizing the worth of a car like your Belvedere, and others that we never gave the time of day, is something to regret as we age. Cheers, see you Sat.
Bang on comment. I find the older I get I really appreciate that style. As a teenager in the 1980s I remember everyone hated these style of mopars including myself. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Perhaps Randahl should be sitting high on a mountain with a long flowing robe as he dispenses his wisdom--only problem, there are no mountains in Iowa!😆
@@glennnickerson8438 He could perch on top of his shed by the tracks, Glenn.
There is a comic strip called "Pearls Before Swine". Every now and then they show the "Wise Ass on the Hill" (who is a jackass).
No negative reflection on Randahl meant. ;)
You are so right!
The Leaning Tower of Power! Hooray!
Tom's pacing the compound like an expectation father!😆
Love me some memories of my grandfather bringing home a 61 Belvedere and my grandmother saying "Bill that thing is ugly...you take it back to the dealer!!" I was with my grandpa on this one...I loved it 😎👍
As a young child, I traveled back and forth across the USA with my family in a six cylinder, three speed, four door, 1961 Belevedere of the same original color. Your car brings back a lot of good memories.
Great story about going cross country to PEI. My friends and I were bored one night and realized we’d never been to Canada. We hopped in my dad’s 1973 Caprice, drove up I-91 to I-93 then crossed the border. Three of the guys said “ok, we made it, let’s go home” ugh! 43 years later and they still haven’t paid me for gas! Cheers from Connecticut!
Road trips are some of my fondest memories too. One of my grandmothers left PEI and moved to Maine at 16. 85 years later my father and I drove there to see where she'd come from. That road trip was a birthday gift to my 80 year old Dad.
"Anne of Green Gables" takes place In PEI. 😮
@@danielthoman7324 When you visit you're constantly reminded of "Anne." Anne of Green Gables tourist traps abound.
Nice to see that Belvedere running!
As a 55 yo man, Bread and butter cars like that blue Plymouth make me smile a-lot lately
What a nice old girl!
The Belvedere just sitting there minding her own business, when suddenly the DS21 rises up to peek over her shoulder... Mouse prevention? Irish Spring soap in substantial quantities seems to offend the little shits sufficiently to keep them out of our van all winter. Throw a few bars in the usual trouble zones and when you come back later she smells "fresh as an Oirish spring, she does..." rather than a poorly-kept hamster cage.
The Belveder is a handsome old thing. All nutso curvature and crazy swoops and mid-century madness. The font on the rear quarters. Those rocket-pod tail lights. The dash is great - ivory-coloured buttons, lil' accent circles around the base of the dash-mounted mirror, the gauges in their own little floating pod, and a horn switch you can operate from the trunk. So damned much character.
Hard to believe that great big beast of a car and the R5 both served the same function (cheap transportation) in their respective times.
Car looks good to me - very presentable & proven...that car don't owe you nothing
😂😢😮😅
L O V E the Plymouth, and ESPECIALLY love that awesome dashboard!!
Gonna have to put up another shed Scott! Can’t have too many sheds really!
At least the wind shield washer still works! Cheers!
Wow can just hear that leaning tower - 225 slant singer sewing machine😃👍
The Mopar 3.5 V6 had the same "tick tick" sound. I love it.
Great looking 61 Plymouth could still be a daily driver for the summer months!
The Virgil Exner designs certainly stand out from the crowd.
Yeah.... the brass at Chrysler said "Call Ford and get Elwood on the phone!"
You could bring out that Beautiful Blue Belvedere at each show and I would be delighted to ogle that gal and never grow tired. That you for having had to show her some light of day. I feel she deserves it. Cheers mates!
I think you would be pleasantly surprised at the value of one of those now. There's a young fella in N. Carolina Who bought a 1962 Plymouth and drove it from Washington State Home....via California... In January....That's a six thousand dollar car any day.....Cheers Scott....
That would be Austin. He's a cool dude with his Texan drawl and loves his Mopars.
When I was 14-15 in 1968, we had Coral '61 2 door wagon with a 318 stick. Always liked the styling in and out.
The Belvedere Is Beautiful! This Coming From A Mopar 6 cylinder Nut! Thanks I Enjoyed The Video! Of Course It Started!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I had a 72 Duster with a small 6 banger.
There's an old tale I heard as a kid, that not a SINGLE slant six has ever been found in the wild with an air cleaner on it.
Seeing the jerry can hard up against the carburettor for a minute made me realize that in all the years I've enjoyed watching CWM, I have NEVER seen a fire extinguisher. Admittedly, I haven't been looking for one. Hope they're readily available throughout Scott's domain.
Oh! Literally dozens of them... Cheers!
@@coldwarmotors And that's exactly how you never need one, luck seems to hang out with the "over prepared". Keep a few Band Aids in your wallet, nicks and pokes disappear.
Awesome looking 1961 Plymouth Fury THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO
I traded a pioneer car stereo for my 62 back in 1975 or so and drove it for a long time until it was sideswiped and just tore it up past fixing. It was a push button auto and a 225 slant and a very good car.
I might be in the minority, but I really do like that 1961 Plymouth. I really like any pushbutton era MoPars! Also a tractor gnome sighting!
I’m thinking you might NOT be in the minority though.
@@Smitoons
Yes, may be more of us than people might think.
I like it too. When it gets together with the other ‘61 Plymouth on the lot, magic will be made.
Maybe it’s attractive today, but it was an ugly duckling back in the day. When Exner started to lose his marbles I guess. 😅
Can't wait for that Mopar Wagon in the background to get restored! Never seen one or even heard about one of those, but it's so cool! Looks like a muscle car wagon!
That old slant 6 fired right up. Can't kill those things.
Looks like you have to th😅n the ranks as you are running out of covered storage space for your nice cars. Deans needs to do one of his cleanings on the 61 Plymouth. Looking forward to Saturday.
the 61 Plymouth is a beautiful car
The famous leaning tower of power!
This was the family car of my youth. I remember playing with the push button transmission buttons!
Beautiful Plymouth
I LOVE That car and that era of Plymouths...It would be SPECIAL to me if I owned it 🙂
When I was a teenager the man next door had a '59 Plymouth Savoy. Light turquoise 4 door, 3 on the tree. He used it as his go to work car. To this day that is still one of my favorite cars.🎉
Your Belvedere brings back memories of my dad's. Four door Slant Six like yours, but his had three on the tree. Unstoppable in the snow. I particularly remember a trip we did from Covington, KY (across the river from Cincinnati, OH) to near Irvine, KY which is about 90 miles to visit grandparents and had to go back in a really bad snowstorm during the winter of 1967. I-75 was practically brand new at the time and it was filled with cars that were not faring well. I don't remember if he had chains on the car, but I do remember it having studded snow tires. As we were in the final stretch for home, the Slant Six started running rough but we made it. My dad popped the hood and found the engine compartment packed with snow. Later in the spring, it got rear ended while parked on the street. My dad was doing a tune up on it and was sitting on the passenger side looking through his "Fix Your Plymouth" manual, and just stuck his foot back inside the car about a minute before someone plowed into the car mangling the left rear quarter panel. The impact pushed his Belvedere into the back of a same year Falcon sedan and damaged the front. My dad replaced the '61 with a '63 Belvedere with a 318 poly. The '63 was pretty much the perfect car. Wish I had it now.
Nice ride. I had once a similar Plymouth 4 door, it was an ex-police patrol car. In Finland it was/is very rare to have US made police cars. Car is now under restoration somewhere here in Finland.
I use dryer sheets to keep the critters out of the engine bay, interior and trunk. Works great.
My grandpa born in 1902 in Oklahoma always had Chevy 6 bangers on his farm. Later when he got grandma a sedan in 1965 it was a Biscayne 2 door with a six. He did relent and include a powerglide as granny had difficulty using a clutch with her bad knees. He paid cash when buying new. No debts and they gave him great service. Later when I moved to Calgary I saw a lot of common sense folks doing the same thing as my grandpa. Damn things a4 bulletproof
Shes a beauty !!!! I Love the Styling of the 1961.
Leaning Tower of Power springs to life. Cheers! 😎👍🏎🏁🏁
Hey Scott. Another great episode - thanks so much. Your musings are always a great pleasure to listen to.
Altho very sad to see that faithful Plymouth ignominiously put out of its well deserved home and into the elements for a renault.
That ain't right - but it's your stuff ..... 😞
Hi Frank! Well, I didn't mention that the whole time I drove the car daily, from 1991 until I moved to this acreage, it sat outside every day, because I didn't have a garage... It doesn't leak, and the interior is nothing special, unlike the Renault, which is mint inside and out, and was always garaged from new by the original owner... Hope this makes sense... Cheers!
@@coldwarmotors 😐
One of my seldom seen favourites. I'm happy to see er again. The Renault turned out a pretty slick lookin' car.
It's a beautiful Thursday on the Test porch with Puma Cat.
Shuffling French cars! Fun.
Have fun Franker's! Thanks Scott. See everyone Saturday.
scott has some odd ball cars!!!!!!!11!
The side view mirrors and the taillights are works of art!
Scott, Dude....That's a cool old beater. See you on Saturday...
I love the Belvedere. It’s a perfect driver that has incredibly unique styling, seating for 4+ and you could drive it everyday without fear of a ding in the supermarket parking lot.
You can buy a new car with that much styling ( love it or hate it). You should drive it more….
That Belvedere is really cool. Wish I had one . Love the dashboard.
What a cool old car, it has style. I would love to have a car like that to drive around.
Nice, the leaning tower of power 🤣🤣👍
Every time I see a newer model Lexus with the spindle grill it reminds me of a 1961 Plymouth. The original spindle grill!
What a great looking car, I love the fact that you have had it in your collection since 1991.
It was very good to see some of my favorites on todays edition of Same Old Shit Studios. Tom, Tractor Gnome and the '61 Belvedere. Thanks Scott.
Best Wishes to everyone.
That Belvedere is a cool car . . .
Forward look foreshadowing? See you Saturday!
The Belvedere paint is a very nice blue tone IMHO.
for some reason that 61 is one of my favorites, i believe it is just thee oddity of it. always look forward to your videos
That Belvedere is a beauty
I think that Plymouth is very special. The styling is unique. And just the fact you still have it and the story is great.
I like it. It looks good for its age and your repairs have held up. I hope you feature it again, giving it a tidy up and the brakes unstuck. Feature getting it back on the tank and put some miles on it.
The 1961 full-size Plymouths were my favorites from the 1960s. Their unique tail light and headlight treatments have always been so memorable for me. My neighbors owned a 1961 Belvedere and my babysitter owned a 1961 Savoy. One of my dream cars was a 1961 Plymouth Fury Convertible, but I am happy with my 1984 Cadillac Biarritz Convertible.
That renault engine note brings back memories for me.... Man they used to be everywhere when i was young
Bonus point
Love the back window style on the Plymouth . 👍🏻👍🏻
You can't kill the leaning tower of power! What a beautiful car👌
I love how more of the pedestrian cars are being appreciated now. Thirty years ago they were robbed of their parts to build muscle cars. Now that those cars are mostly unaffordable we're finally giving the base cars the love they deserve. My '79 Volare slant six ran great. Just like my dad's '74 Dart. He never changed the oil. A neighbor who worked at NASA Langley would bring home the used compressor oil from the wind tunnels for the Dart. Worked fine as it was synthetic!
Lot of people didn't care for the"new" body design when they came out.kinda dating myself as an old guy.
It's such a weird vessel and so great that you saved it and daily drove it for years!
Cool, I didn't know you had this. It should be a runner. I'd like to see it all fixed up. The car has more style than all the french cars made. LOL
That would be a head turner as a daily. See ya on Saturday!
Love the Plymouth. Virgil would be proud! 😀
It's a thing of beauty as it is
That old Slant 6 "Reporting for duty sir! How long have I been out for this time?" These are one of my all time favorite body styles!
Loved hearing the history on the 61 Fury.Sounds like you guys had a great time with this car in the nineties. Good to see Tom Supervising parking 😅😅😅😅
Thanks for the weeknight show. Enjoy the Plymouth's.
My first car was a crew cab a 73 Pontiac Catalina, I loved that old land yacht! Four doors to me then meant more friends can fit in in comfort.
That little car you moved in looks sharp with that paint job and stripes.
I know the two doors are sweet and I love them too, but there's always a place in my heart for the crew cabs!
Thanks again! Um, I know everyone is a critic, so I'm tossing my hat into the ring now! 1 point off for no Frankers in the ride along! L😮L
Super cool car.. All these mystery mobiles hidden away...
Extravagant and aggressive design...
I love looking at the dashboards on all these classics. A lot of thought was put into their design and I truly believe that they are works of art. 💯
Edit: I truly did write this comment before I watched Scott commenting about the dash. Honest! 🤓
All right!!
Not the order of who I would have picked for who has to sleep outside, but It is nice to see the Belvedere out doing something.
Belvedere be like: You're kicking me out of the barn for that dolled up little French floozy?! Are you kidding me!? 😉😁
I love that it has the leaning tower of power!
The Belle of the Barn no more.
I love it!! So ugly and unusual! The slant six makes it even better, and who cares if it's a four door? Boy I hope you fix it up and get it under cover again before too long.
Woohoo!
My appreciation for the '61 has definitely grown over the years. I used to think they were hideous, but now it's charming to behold.
And I sure do love those slant six's. How I wish they debuted four or five years earlier.
My favorite of the "Forward Look" cars!
There's a hold up in the Bronx, Brooklyn's broken out in fights, there's a traffic jam in Harlem that backs up to Jackson Heights...."CAR 54 WHERE ARE YOU?"
Awesome
Love the old belvedere
Always loved the old slant sixes.
Ahh the old solid lifter 6...
Sorry but all that came to mind was, "Oh Belvedere, come here boy!"
If ya know.. ya know.
Spring brings such pleasures and treasures when winter’s slumber is shaken off of CWM’s garage fleet. Very nice to see the Belvedere and hear its backstory. I wouldn’t get rid of it either; it’s been like a faithful old friend and you can’t beat the ‘Forward Look’ coupled with the legendary Slanter. Cheers!
When you backed her out of the garage, if I closed my eyes, for just a moment, I could smell that sweet exhaust.... you should can that stuff and sell it online...
Our neighbors bought two 61 Plymouths new. One was a Fury convertible that the wife drove and the other was the lowly Savoy stripper that the hubby commuted to work with. Us kids thought they were pretty ugly back then, but over the years they've been elevated to the "strange" category.
