I agree with you about Genie Plus. My favorite trip to Disneyland was during Covid when we would just mosey around, get in a line that was continually moving and ride a ride. It was stress free, and so much more relaxing and fun. We weren’t running around the park trying to make use of our genie plus selection. We just went where the wind took us, enjoying the park, and family time.

Thing is they dont want you to mosey. They want to get you in and out and spend as much money as possible. They give zero f*cks about your family experience. Sad.

We were in the park this last week and did a private tour on 12/28. We asked our guide if Astro Orbiter was moving and the tour guide said “no comment” with a big smile, a slight head nod 'yes', and a wink and said there are some big announcements coming in the months ahead for Tomorrowland. So my money is officially on a move for Astro Orbiter after that interaction. What I know is, sitting outside of Plaza Inn without the AO pushing into the hub was a wonderful experience. I hope this tour guide is right! Another great update, David! And it was fun seeing you in the park on NYE!
Lies
The square piece of metal is likely a mounting plate for the water tower. This gets secured in place and the water tower will get craned into place on top of it. The corners have 4 smaller (bolt) holes for each leg plus the center has another set for "water" pipe. Photos of the MK version seem to back this up. Seems the tower installation is not too far away!
That was my thoughts too.
I don’t mind the changes to splash mountain, actually happy to see what disney puts out with this “new” ride. But I just noticed that it looks like they’re covering the turn when you could see the columbia😭 that was my favorite part of the ride.
I just hope when it opens that the Ride can stay running for long periods of time without breaking down like the newer Attractions do these days.
Since it’ll still be a log flume ride it really shouldn’t be affected unless they shut down for technical failures in the animatronics but I imagine they will have b modes for many of the new figures.
There are some significant upgrades happening to the internal systems for modernization. You can see a variety of holes in the walls where they weren't able to access and retrofit existing systems before without a long downtime.

You usually use an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel or coarse wire brush for welding surfaces preparation. Didn't catch the closeup, it would make more sense for that. 🎉 The "mesh" is a grid of Rebar for strength of the mountain shell for the Stucco outer surface.

Hey Disney, have you ever heard the saying, if it works don't fix it! It's bad enough you are messing with Haunted Mansion and other attractions. I bet if you had to wait in line with the rest of us, you wouldn't be screwing with it. I so wish Walt was here to set you straight!
I hope they don't close Bayou too much. A nice part of Splash was the open parts and areas you could look out to the rest of the park. I'll be very curious to see how this ride looks both from the outside and while riding
It's most likely just going to be some vine covered framework like the start if the Jurassic Park ride. However, if they're adding some sort of full coverage it could mean it's a scene or an animatronic that has to be covered... Could be something!
@@George_vv excited to see the changes but also sad to see them at the same time. I do hope they have some little call backs to Splash along the ride, though they might be very hidden. We'll just have to keep waiting.

I still really don't understand taking rides designed to have high capacity and then slapping a system that on it's own and no matter what slows down everything on it. It didn't work with Haumted Mansion it's not going to work with Pirates.

The snoring grizzly bear sound that was a remnant of the area before splash mountain was built, I wonder now, if that will be forever gone, or if they will incorporate into the new attraction?
I doubt it'll be gone forever due to it being from a cut scene from Snow White. Any sane imagineer would keep that.
@@George_vv I was not aware that’s where the audio originated. Ty for that! All I remember is walking past that little rock cave hearing the snoring bear sound when I was a kid.
The snoring from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs came to be because Walt Disney went on a little camping trip close to San Francisco back in the 20’s or 30’s with a group. The people in other tents were snoring so loud he had trouble falling asleep. So, Walt worked that into a scene for the film. The sound effect eventually made its way to bear country (before that it was the Indian Village) and Rufus was the bear snoring near the restrooms (where Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is now). Once Splash Mountain was built in 1988-1989, the imagineers decided to leave the snoring sound effect in place right before the first drop. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if they left it in there somehow.

In this case, they're doing it because Mansion and Splash/Tiana are both closed for most of the year.
David the reason that they are replacing the grears and all of the parts is the ride is quite old now. All rides must be inspected to get their permits to be safe to run. I used to work on shows ( carnival rides) and every year they must be inspected to get a permit. So if it doesn't pass inspection then they must trear it down replacing and repair everything. So that's why it will take time to do everything correctly. I hope that this helps you understand what's going on. When it comes back it will be a new and probably a faster experience.❤
One of the reasons for building a new store/building at the exit of the Mansion is to help visually shrink the height of Splash Mountain, since it will no longer be referred to as a mountain.

Thanks as always for the updates!! I agree with you! Pirates does NOT need a lightning lane! It is already perfection in terms of getting large numbers through the queue, in a relatively short period of time.

David, the thin metal object is a template for the mounting bolts at the base of the water new water tower. It will lay flat as the concrete base is poured and will hold the threaded mounting rods in their exact positions. You can also see an “A” and a “D” painted on the two visible corners.

The “pavers” you noted next to Splash Mountain queue run underneath the temporary wall. That tells me it’s been there since before the wall went up. I don’t think they moved the wall.
It is interesting Disneylands Splash Mountain is significantly faster. The logs are smaller, and the water just moves faster. I wonder how this might be changed, and if it is too expensive to change then how will that affect the way the show plays out? WDW's Splash has different scenes, and is about 10 minutes. Disneylands is about 6 and a half. Will be cool to see how these two rides end up being different.

Normally most construction on new attractions is done at night because it's easier for them to move heavy equipment and pieces when no one is in the park. For example at Universal Orlando the new Dreamworks kids area is getting a lot of work done at night or at Epic Universe most ride testing is done at night.
That meat sheet thing looks like it could be the back of a patch, like maybe for those holes in the flume turnaround. I'm think maybe put some mesh in front of it and then screw that in as a backing, then build the outside show wall on top of that. (Not sure if I explained that well enough)
Looks to be a drill jig so that all the holes are drilled exactly where they need to be relative to each other.
A template or jig seems about right. Looks like a temporary use piece that’s only sturdy enough to use once or a few times to ensure holes get drilled in the right spots. The diagonal part may be just to add structure to the outer square.
That "People Mover topper" is called "The Obvservatron" by the way lol

I love the updates to production with sounds and animations! I was thinking every video links the website which has not seen an update in a long time and all dates are 2022. Maybe pull that link or start using the site again since updates are happening in such great ways anyhow?
2:26 the 'honeycomb' you are referring to is the netting on the stairway/bridge over the flume at the top of the mill lift hill with something dark behind it; whether that 'something' will be permanent only time will tell... What you should be focused on is the new steel going up in that location that looks like it will enclose at least that area between the mill lift hill and that bridge - maybe farther!

Do you think it's possible they would replace the west coast logs with the higher capacity two-across logs with lap bars like we see in Orlando? Seems like an easy (maybe not cheap) way to increase capacity, but I'm not sure if the physics of design would allow it.

I really think they are closing the outside area of the log fume on the top there at Tiana’s where you were filming the construction.
Forget the honeycomb stuff...They are putting in steel beams near that honeycomb area, like the other side.... I'm surprised you didn't mention it.

The faux trees and foliage on 7DMT take on a sickly pallor not long after being "planted". I hope they don't have that same problem on Tiana's.
