With Labour traditionally having promised to govern “for the many, not the few,” and the Tories having been seen as the party for the privileged, it seems British politics is divided by class. However, Brexit has weakened traditional bonds between class and party, while the importance of many other social cleavages further weakens the case for typical class voting. We ask, do we live in a country where your socio-economic background dictates your politics?
ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Oxford Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.
The Oxford Union is deeply grateful and encouraged by the messages of support in response to our determination to uphold free speech. During our 200 year history, many have tried to shut us down. As the effects of self-imposed censorship on university campuses, social media and the arts show no signs of dissipating, the importance of upholding free speech remains as critical today as it did when we were founded in 1823. Your support is critical in enabling The Oxford Union to continue its mission without interruption and without interference. You can support the Oxford Union here: oxford-union.org/supportus
Excellent speech, no matter which side of the motion one's on!

Yes.
Sir Hume tried to destroy Rhodesia, he got what he wanted in the end and Rhodesian lost in the end
Cameron and Osbourne campaigned furiously against Brexit and only agreed to referendum because they knew Nigel Farage would split the Tory party unless they promised one. Both left in frustration and disgrace when we exited the EU. SK didn't tell the truth and he knows it.
