They’re right. To be more specific, I believe for bowling, the term came from referencing the ball crossing over right to left, similar to crossing from Manhattan to Brooklyn. And I also believe if you’re a left hander, it’s also known as Jersey side, since they would go from Manhattan to Brooklyn, which would have been very appropriate for that shot since they’re in Jersey :-)
