    Ideals change slightly depending on who swears it, and it changes completely depending on order)
    You read Windrunners ideals, Szeth's 2nd ideal as Skybreaker is "I swear to seek justice, to let it guide me, until I find a more perfect Ideal." (generalized form is "I will put the law before all else.")
    And the 3rd ideal of Skybreakers is "a specific oath to dedicate oneself to a greater truth" as Szeth dedicates himself to Dalinar

Because I usually have a larger difference in our perspectives. I think thats why i am so happy to watch your videos. Your endeavor to share your thoughts and feelings give me so much to appreciate. I am always impressed with your command of English! Thank you for sharing so many beautiful, meaningful quotes. Gaining insight is one of the many positive reasons to read. Since making this video took so much of your time, it's good that the review increased your appreciation and understanding of the book.
    The majority of my own fantasy journey continues to be mostly urban fantasy, but I enjoyed The Red Sister by Lawrence so much that I chose to read another epic assassin story - The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks. The book is extremely violent with an abundance of child abuse. For me, it is disturbing that the more I read of violence, the less offensive I find it. Maybe the appeal of urban fantasy for me is that the numerous strange creatures and the abundance of magic put the story outside the realms of reality, whereas the parallel universe concepts do not. Definitely food for thought.
    As always, I look forward to your future visits and learning of your continuing fantasy journey.

      Thanks BJ for being here every time! I appreciate it 🙏Yes, it was very time consuming, but worth it. Regarding reading violence in books and finding it less offensive as you go along... What we read doesn't necessarily reflect who we are. It is perhaps good to 'enjoy' or 'condone' violence in books as being some sort of outlet. In the end, it is just fiction. Which are different words for your own clear observation that the story takes place outside the realms of reality. I'll be reading First Law very soon, where the grossness and violence really disturbed you (if I recall correctly).

      @DutchGreyBeard Of course, I watch all of your videos, spoilers and all!! The Weeks book is many times more violent than The Blade Itself. If you can get beyond no likable characters, no plot and the repetitive scenes of Blade, it's supposed to be the weakest book of the series. You’re a wiser man than me! I tried to power through all four books before Wind and Truth and started to feel burnout midway through Oathbringer similar to you. I also thought the early Dalinar flashbacks were an absolute slog. It of course ended up being all worth it in the end, and I jumped right into Rhythm of War. The burnout is REAL. Im just not invested like i was in the first two books. You’re making the correct choice. There’s no need to compromise your enjoyment of the series just to hit a self-imposed deadline. That being said I also wouldn’t attribute 100% of the blame to burnout, this feels like a black sheep in the series and I think it will be obvious why I say that when you get there.

    The only oath that is the same among Radiants is the first one... "Life before death, etc." Ideals 2-5 are specific to each order, with each ideal adding specificity (or so it seems to me to me thus far)
    Windrunners = I Will Protect
    Edgedancers = I Will Remember
    Skybreakers = I Will seek justice

    I tried jumping straight into Oathbringer after finishing Words of Radiance, but the "Stormlight fatigue" hit me hard. I felt drained realizing everything had essentially reset for a third round of an 800-page slow buildup. On top of that, I wasn’t invested enough in the larger stakes of the story.
    For me, The Way of Kings nailed the type of story I wanted: character-driven, expansive, but not overwhelmingly large in scope. It felt intimate yet epic. However, by the time Words of Radiance ended with Kaladin and Szeth's dramatic sky battle, it felt like the series was drifting away from what originally drew me in. The magic system, while undeniably creative, started to feel more like something out of a Japanese anime than traditional high fantasy. I know I’m in the minority here, as many readers cite those moments as their favorites.
    Additionally, the character arcs, particularly Shallan’s, didn’t work for me. Controversially, I preferred her trajectory in The Way of Kings over where she ends up after Words of Radiance and Oathbringer. Kaladin’s arc also became exhausting to follow. While I understand the intention behind depicting his ongoing struggle with mental health-how depression isn’t something you simply "beat"-it didn’t make for compelling reading for me after seeing him overcome so much in the first two books.
    I have so many thoughts about this series because I loved the first book so much. I recommended it to everyone I knew, only to reach Oathbringer and wish I could take it all back. I never even made it to Rhythm of War, which I’ve heard is considered the weakest installment by many readers.

      @@DutchGreyBeard I think these books benefit from some breathing room between each read. Sanderson’s signature story arcs-building up to explosive endings-don’t transition smoothly into the slower-paced beginnings of the next book. After an intense climax, it can feel jarring to return to a snail’s pace.
      I’ve taken an extended break from the series, and while I occasionally get the itch to continue, other books always seem to capture my attention instead, keeping me from picking up Rhythm of War. Maybe 2025 will be the year I finally dive back in and finish the last two books. I do enjoy the characters enough to want to see how the first arc of The Stormlight Archive concludes.

    I liked the third book much less than the previous ones, despite the fact that at the end of "Words of Radiance" we find out that Yasna is alive, there is very little of her in the third book, but she is one of my favorite characters, but there are a lot of Shalans, which I don't really like! Kaladin also seems to be fading into the background. All the characters reflect, try to figure themselves out, think how to do the right thing, and with these it seems to me too much, for good in this book each character needs to be assigned a psychologist, and Shalan generally began to develop severe schizophrenia and it would not hurt for her to be treated in a hospital for a couple of months. There is a lot of politics. There are a lot of Dalinar's past, they try to show it ambiguous, smear shit, but is it so important to us at this point in time, to some extent yes, to some extent no, but it could be slightly shortened! The characters spend a lot of time in Shadesmar and we will learn more about how this world works, but it's still hard for me to imagine how everything works there. And in general, the whole last battle was hard to visualize and keep in mind, since all the characters are involved. Each appearance of the Fool is five points, although this time the story that he told Shalan did not catch me so much, unlike the previous one from the last book about Fleet! The love triangle of Adolin Shalan Kaladin, to be honest, causes only slight irritation and slides into some kind of Young adult!
    I didn't like Taravangian's plot, and when she played her move, I don't understand why everyone doubted and turned away from Dalinar, what's the point, he has the largest army, he has the best scientists, he has light knights, other rulers simply have no choice, but Sanderson made an empty intrigue, and I in general Taravangien's motives are not clear.
    Well, another betrayal on the battlefield ... a repetition from the first book, no longer surprises or impresses, as for me a weak move!
    Kaladin failed at the most inappropriate moment, because it seems to me that he has already worked everything out in previous books, but no, he continues to suffer! When he already realizes that it will not work to save everyone, or it will be some kind of fairy tale!
    Overall, the book is still great, but for me it's a little worse than the previous ones!
