  • Maurice Vleugels explains the differences and similarities between the Linssen AC (with aft cabin) and Sedan (with open cockpit) motor yachts in the 40-foot segment.
Our steel motor yachts sail on the many inland waterways, rivers, canals and coastal waters throughout Europe. From 40 feet, you have access to 2 (Sedan) or 3 (AC) sleeping cabins. On the 30 and 35 foot yachts, there is no extra side cabin and you therefore have 1 (Sedan) or 2 (AC) sleeping cabins.
The front of the AC and Sedan are largely identical, with a spacious forward cabin with double bed, side/guest cabin with two single beds and the toilet and shower in the corridor which are used by both the forward and side cabins.
The saloon and the stern are essentially different. On a Sedan motor yacht, the saloon includes the steering position with a large steering bench, pantry, saloon couch and folding dinette. In the AC, the saloon is a large living area. With the same saloon settee for cosy sitting, the same spacious galley, but opposite a fish-eye dinette.
In the stern, the AC has a large aft cabin. This has its own spacious shower/toilet and a walk-in closet with lots of storage space.
In the AC, you steer from the top of the aft deck on a fixed helm seat, which also has a spacious seating area and table. The swimming platform can be reached by taking the door in the middle to the comfortable and safe downstairs stairs.
The Sedan's aft section is the large open cockpit. With a bench and possibly a table, it is spacious enough to sit comfortably. Access to the swimming platform is via the small door on the port side.
Under the cockpit is a particularly large storage space for all the things you have with you.

Are these boats a sea going category as well as inland rivers.

30 and '35' are Category C ('inshore') and 40'and larger are Category B ('Off shore'). we have an article about the categories: www.linssenyachts.com/en/boating-terminology/145-boating-terminology/1337-ce-category-on-a-motor-yacht-what-does-that-stand-for-again.html
