As a side sleeper and mouth breather I've tried a few different masks. I finally found the ResMed F20 AirFit worked best for me. It is a full face mask without any forehead contact point allowing me to read prior to falling asleep. The ResMed Mirage Quarto full face mask always seem to break the plastic at the forehead bridge, probable cause from strapping it so tight to prevent leaks from side sleeping. The original nasal mask I was given at the sleep center was a complete waste as it prolonged the time it took me to adapt to sleep therapy.
Ralph, Thanks for the info! I’m going to try out the mask you mentioned. Right now I’m using a Fisher & Paykel mask and I had that it sits on my forehead. Also thanks for saying the nasal mask isn’t good. I was going to try one of those but now I won’t. So you saved me wasting money on bad masks! I glad you posted this! Thanks!
Ralph, Can I ask what you paid for your Resmed F20 AirFit mask? I know there are a ton of sites that sell them. I’m just trying to find the lowest price I can on it.
@@tracy3066 Before age 65 I had to directly purchase my CPAP supplies, like you I comparison shopped, I couldn't find any real deals; cushion were $50-60, mask and cushion combos were $90-100 with additional $20-30 for headgear. Most cheaper prices didn't include shipping, so it was usually $120-140 for a complete mask setup sent to you. The cheapest I remember paying was $47 on Amazon for a Wishine branded complete mask setup. Unfortunately the mask is no longer available on Amazon when I last checked. I used the frame and cushion for almost two years before the frame broke.(I only had to replace the $10-12 headgear that got stretched out about three times). Now that I'm on a Medicare Advantage program I have a CPAP supplier with an out-of-pocket cost to me of $0. I recently switched to the F20 AirTouch cushion, the memory foam appears to solve most of my mask leak problems. I'm now on a monthly cushion replacement, the F20 frame and headgear replacement is every three months,
@@ralphmills7322 But why replace the headgear and frame if they are ok? I really wonder how many people replace those things every 3 months. As long as they are being cleaned on a regular basis what's behind having to constantly replace them?? I must be missing something.
Good video! I sleep on my back and right side only. The AirFit P10 with the adjustable AirFit N30 headgear works perfectly. I love the P10 but wasn’t fond of the headgear. Once I learned that the headgear was interchangeable I gave it a go and couldn’t be happier. As I understand ResMed will be furnishing the P10 with the adjustable headgear in the very near future. N30i and P30i didn’t work as the silicone broke hair on top of my head and was immediately disqualified from consideration. Hair is still growing back. LOL
Thank you, yes, the new version of the p10 has adjustable headgear and was already released. Gotta be careful these masks like giving us unwanted haircuts lol
Im a dedicated side sleeper and Ive tried all the resmed masks. The N20 is by far the best and i can burrow my face half into pillow and it doesnt leak. Just make sure you have the correct size though
I'm a side sleeper (left side only). The P10 and the F&P are not options for me. I don't like nasal pillows, and I don't like forehead straps and the cushion going over the bridge of my nose. The Respironics is also not an option for me as I don't like the tubing going over the top of my head. When my pressure was increased, I needed to switch to a full-face mask to keep my mouth from opening and drying out during the night, so, I switched from the AirFit N20, to the AirFit F30, and I like it. Very comfortable, although the cushion comes in only two sizes (small, and medium/large, the size I use), and, if you don't get it adjusted just right, it WILL leak.
Absolutely, I believe also the F30 has a Small Wide cushion, if that helps. Sometimes a conventional Full Face mask may be a little more uncomfortable but would resolve the leakage issue especially since the pressure has been raised.
A lot of times if your getting any type of pain on the bridge of your nose. It is because the mask is being tightened to much to avoid leakage instead of just readjusting the mask.
Hi, Thanks for reaching out, yes they do tend to leak from the cushion more. There is not a lot of seal. I would try a Small cushion if you are not already using. If that does not work. Maybe the N30i would be a better option because in curves more on the sides of the nose to avoid leakage. The Dreamwear seems to be flat across allowing more air to escape.
Hi, Thanks for reaching out! That is great to hear really. Yes each patient has a mask that is right for them, you just have to be patient. I know that is hard when you are trying to get sleep. Thanks for sharing!

And can one lay on their side even though air is coming down the side? Thank you if you can explain?
Hi, Thanks for reaching out with your questions! Absolutely, I have been asked the same before. Yes, you can lay on either side with that mask it is actually a mask designed for those who move a lot, that is why the connector is on top of your head. Hi Kerri G, Yes that is a rather bulky mask with a lot of headgear but a good mask recommend a lot for high pressure settings. If you like that style you can stick with it and try a smaller size. If you would want to switch, I would recommend the F30 or F30i which is more of a hybrid full face with less on the face, but allows nose and mouth breathing. Please see the link below and let me know if I can help you in any way. Thank you so much for choosing Sleeplay! sleeplay.com/products/airfit-f30-complete-mask-system sleeplay.com/products/airfit-f30i-full-face-mask
So what if you're a side sleeper and a mouth breather. Those nasal units are totally useless for these types of sleepers. I know. I'm a side sleeper as well as a mouth breather. I've tried the nasal units and they were a disaster. I use an Air Fit F20 mask. If I use the nasal type I might just as well not use anything at all. It has absolutely no effect. I've tried many different full face as well as nasal masks over the years but because I breath through my mouth none of them worked except the full face. I wish I could use the nasal type because they're lighter and smaller. I think it's called the luck of the Irish. If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all. This is an excellent video for people who breath through their nose.
Thank you for watching! If you are on an Auto CPAP, if you allow yourself to get used to one. You can use the nasal mask I recommend the N20 unless you are saying it does not decrease your events per hour. In that case if it is due to the mouth breathing you can try a chinstrap or mouth tape. If not yes the Full Face is your option but there are new hybrid mask, not sure if you tried one of those yet.
Have you tried to loosen? Just wondering, also what mask are you using may I ask. I would possibly try the F30 or F30i which is the Hybrid face mask that have a little less headgear all together.
My pressure goes up to 20, when I use the nasal mask I get choked , very uncomfortable and scary, I don’t like the full mask but what’s the other option
I am.a stomach sleeper and mouth breather I have been using the full face dream mask but when put my face to side and down toward the pillow air only comes out nose opening up to eyes. I was on Phillips respironics original full face mask till discontinued.
Hi, Yes, as I myself have done and suggest to my patient's over the years. Even being a mouth breather you can still wear a nasal mask and I would suggest you to try that. It may take a little getting used to but you can definitely do so and it is worth it. If the mouth breathing is an issue still, you can try a chinstrap or mouth tape. Either the nasal mask will train you to keep your mouth closed, which it did for me and many. It does not and you keep your mouth open but you get used to the feeling it no longer bothers you and your therapy is not affected. Or you can not use and maybe a different style of full face we can work to find together. Let me know what you decide and how it works out.
Matt, I am currently in the difficult process of choosing a full face mask, so would appreciate it if you could share the names of the 3 masks you have tried before the DreamWear. I have rented a DreamWear mask and am using it, yes it is VERY comfortable but found it sometimes leaks a bit of air, at least in my specific case...
After a home sleep study indicating mild-to-moderate apnea, my practitioner wants me to wear a CPAP. I have hip-length hair which (for the last 50+ years) I normally gather and toss above my bed pillow so I'm not encountering it during the night. I am a restless side-sleeper, rolling from one side to the other multiple times during the night AND have persistent nighttime bladder urgency that has me up to the bathroom 6 or more times per night. I can't imagine any way that a CPAP could be doable! Am I missing something?
FYI sleep Apnea is causing your brain to not turn your kidneys down at night.. I have the same problem even after surgery for enlarged prostate.. Urologist fond the issue . when i had a catherer in after surgey I slept because my urine went to the bag,, But after the catheter was removed I still peed 3-4 times a night... You can get a female catheter and try it for a week... Just an idea... I try everything I can by researching my health issues. I am 81 .. I probably needed a cpap machine 2 years ago.. Aging sucks.
@@walterbobruk2310 I can’t thank you enough for this comment I appreciate it this is night number 2 for me With the CPAP and I’m hesitating to go to sleep now because knowing I have to wear this headgear I’m just anxious and stressed out but I have been going to the bathroom 4-6 times a night I’m hoping this will subside.
I was going to the bathroom 2 or 3 times a night. Since starting with the cpap in August (I have severe apnea) I now only go once and sometimes am even able to sleep through the night. I'm still adjusting to the mask though. I'm a side sleeper and have the nose pillow mask. I've had sinus issues for years and have problems with congestion. Sometimes I wake up with one nostril clogged and feel like I'm suffocating. I'm trying to wean myself off nosespray.
In addition to what was said before, your blood pressure increases when your body realizes it isn't getting enough air, and then to lower your blood pressure, the kidneys have to produce more urine. So it is quite probable that your sleep apnea is actually contributing to your need to pee during the night.
I am a brand new user and totally side sleeper. Which one would you suggest to start with. My Sleep Doc just ordered my machine yesterday so i havent even had a chance to use it. Thank you.
I've had my CPAP a week now I feel no difference. Some how I'm taking it off in my sleep and throwing it across the room 😭😭😭😭 I go to sleep with it on but wake up with mask thrown in chair on other side the bed. I just want good sleep.
Hi Stephen Barrios, Yes, that is a common issue. Trust me I am a user and did the exact same thing. It will feel almost more like a nuisance than a benefit. But trust me once you get used to the mask and go through the process you will see the difference for sure. Also if you are using a Full Face mask even as a mouth breather, I would suggest a Nasal mask for comfort. If you are using a Nasal mask already it is because you open your mouth at night causing you to take off mask. Either continue with Nasal mask trying to get used to it, try a chinstrap, or you may need to go or stick to the Full Face mask. Hope this helps!
Hi, Make sure your events are below 5. Sleep apnea causes a lot of the restless sleep moving around a lot. The top of the head mask are the best for moving around a lot. Check out the line of Resmed mask the "i" series. The F30i, N30i and P30i see if those help.
I loved the idea of the Phillips Res Dreamwear mask, but I hate that it burns my septum. I had to discontinue use because no amount of Vaseline would help, nor trying to put a bandage in place.
I was a long time user of the Swift FX but after I gave the P10 a try I was even more pleased with the fit. As a side sleeper who shifts from side to side I can report that I have had no issues with leaks. My leak rates never reach 5 L/min. Besides, I have read where the Swift FX is being discontinued.
Does anyone get help with chronic pain? My headache has been terrible, nonstop since a car accident in ‘77. Every waking moment. I have severe apnea and the cpap straps make me sick with pain. My entire skull is exploding.
I also have severe headache issues. A full face mask was agony because of it pressing on the bridge of my nose (between the eyes). I switched to a nose pillow mask and it resolved that issue for me. I do wish you luck.
I am intolerant to wearing a mask, however, i have to do an auto pap study...is that a mask i can use or can I use a nasal mask like someone uses with an oxygen tank?
@@Sleeplayground thats the thing, i dont know what kind of mask i should wear if I am intolerable to them...when i put the mask on when I did the sleep study i felt like I was suffocating...i even put the mask that just goes over the nose and i still felt the same way
Hey Walter any luck? I recently came across the Philips amara view full face, airfit f30 are designed for users who wear glasses/want to read. I've read mixed reviews. Haven't tried it myself yet, but am heavily considering as an alternative to the existing Airfit F20 full face. Best of luck. ruclips.net/video/WTBsvlQG5Og/видео.html
Sorry folks. I'm going on 3 weeks and my third mask and I can tell you there is no comfortable mask available. It all boils down to your tolerance level. I have yet to understand why anyone would recommend any mask where the hose hooks to the top and air pumps down each side of the head for a side sleeper. As long as you lay on your back it is tolerable and maybe you could get use to it after a year or so. As soon as you turn to your side and the air is forced to go thru the opposite side tube alone, it sounds like a hurricane. Basically it boils down to this... you can sleep with numerous "events" (I average 67 an hour which is considered severe sleep apnea) and not wake up much thoughout the night OR... use a CPAP machine to prevent unhealthy cardiac "events" and wake up so many times during the night to adjust the mask that you literally get very little sleep. Your call...
Hello, Please try to keep in mind that everyone is different. If you are having a lot of trouble finding a mask, I was suggest to speak with your doctor so they can refer you to a sleep clinic so you can discuss the problems you are having and see if working together you can find a mask that will work for you.
@@Sleeplayground I use the Phillips, am a side sleeper, and get best results with it. Maybe one channel gets blocked, but maybe the one open channel is sufficient?? I'e tried four masks and this is my favorite.

Hello, I'm sorry that you were offended but he didn't mean what you think. He meant it would be ideal if you didn't have to wear a mask for CPAP since a lot of them are hard to get accustomed to. He was not disrespecting anyone. He has been a respiratory therapist for 15 years, so why would he insult patients in the field he works in.
@@Sleeplayground ok, but still, that's a really odd joke. I was so happy to finally get my CPAP, they are quite complicated to get at this point. Yes, as I myself have done and suggest to my patient's over the years.
How good is the resmed Quattro full face mask?
It is a great mask, but everybody has there own mask that they are comfortable with.
Definitely the dream wear mask…. I’ve tried 3 types and the dreamwear was hands down the best ever!
So happy you found a mask that works!! That is most of the time the biggest hurdle.
@marcosdantas5722 it should blow some to keep humidity down.... I just tighten the little straps little by little
Where is the filter on the machine I want to know how you clean the filter
So sorry for the late response. What type of machine are you referring to may I ask?
@@walterbobruk2310 It has its downside...but aging still beats the alternative. 😄
Thank you.
Hello,
First-time CPAP users like the Airfit P10 since it doesn't obstruct your face and you can sleep on your side.
My air feels restricted when I am on my side with the Phillips Dreamware. Does that indicate a different pressure might be needed?
It may. I would suggest speaking with the doctor about this issue to see what they think.
I've had my CPAP a week now I feel no difference. Some how I'm taking it off in my sleep and throwing it across the room 😭😭😭😭 I go to sleep with it on but wake up with mask thrown in chair on other side the bed. I just want good sleep.
Hi Stephen Barrios,
Yes, that is a common issue.
I’m a move around sleeper. I sleep on by stomach, side and back all in 1 night. I just can’t stay in 1 position for too long. That sucks.
Hi,
Make sure your events are below 5.
I had to discontinue use because no amount of Vaseline would help, nor trying to put a bandage in place.
what mask is working for you?
@@Sleeplayground Dream wear full face mask.
@@juicyqt6542 ok great, the Dreamwear full face has great reviews
I believe your back strap is too tight. I use Dreamwear and sleep on both sides. You are using the Silicone nasal pillows, no?
I use the Resmed Swift fx. Its better than those and I've tried all the nasal pillows. Sad this guy didn't mention it
Swift fx is a great mask, I didnt mention it because ive had higher success with the masks mentioned.
Thanks
Welcome
The P10 blows cold air out the front which hits the pillows and comes back up onto your cheeks. Very annoying.
Wow,
Have you tried to turn up the humidity level? That may help some.
Does anyone get help with chronic pain? My headache has been terrible, nonstop since a car accident in ‘77. Every waking moment. I have severe apnea and the cpap straps make me sick with pain. My entire skull is exploding.
We are sorry to hear. We recommend you contact your doctor for this issue.
We would have to see the mask you have in mind. Do you have a link?
@@Sleeplayground thats the thing, i dont know what kind of mask i should wear if I am intolerable to them...when i put the mask on when I did the sleep study i felt like I was suffocating...i even put the mask that just goes over the nose and i still felt the same way
I need a full face mask that allows you to wear eye glasses when you where it.
Hey Walter, this is going to be a challenge as most full face masks go over the nose.

I like my resmed swift fx nano. The mask itself is silicone. I mis the GoLife nasal pillow mask immensely as that fucker DIDN'T leak AT ALL.

Resmed f30i.
f30 is a great mask.
Have you evaluated the f&p evora for side sleepers?
@@jimcollins1922 Yes, I have but it was after we already made this video. The Evora full-face mask is about to debut any day now.
"Best mask is to not have a mask" ??? So how is sleep apnea going to be addressed without a mask?
Hello,
For people who dislike conventional CPAP masks, there are CPAP masks like the Bleep one that doesn't have a headpiece.
@@Sleeplayground ah.. ok thank you!
Basically it boils down to this... you can sleep with numerous "events" (I average 67 an hour which is considered severe sleep apnea) and not wake up much thoughout the night OR... use a CPAP machine to prevent unhealthy cardiac "events" and
wake up so many times during the night to adjust the mask that you literally get very little sleep. Your call...
Hello, Please try to keep in mind that everyone is different. If you are having a lot of trouble finding a mask, I was suggest to speak with your doctor so they can refer you to a sleep clinic so you can discuss the problems you are having and see if working together you can find a mask that will work for you.
Philips is not good for side sleeps. One air channel became blocked always.
Hi! Thank you for your feedback.
@@Sleeplayground I use the Phillips, am a side sleeper, and get best results with it. Maybe one channel gets blocked, but maybe the one open channel is sufficient?? I'e tried four masks and this is my favorite.
I should have watched this first.
Better late then never we hope! =)

Damn. What the hell?
Hi,
Appreciate you very much! Is there anything I can help you with, if possible.
Something you guys need to pass on the mask makers is that the bloody headgear straps are way way too narrow this needs fixing I do not know why they insist on making these straps so narrow and they are all the same I'll bet these people do not wear these masks come on people fix this PLEASE.
Wow, I never heard that sorry for the inconvenience! We will see what we can do. Thank you for letting us know.
Top masks are so noisy
Yes, for some they are!
@@Sleeplayground that vitera mask looks promising
Incredibly offensive beginning. Do you think I LIKE wearing a mask? Do I come here to be insulted? "The best mask is not to wear a mask."
SURE. RUB IT IN. REMIND ME WHAT I'M STUCK WITH!
What an awful beginning. I tried watching but I'm disgusted, and I won't watch you again.
Hello,
I'm sorry that you were offended but he didn't mean what you think.
I had to call a lot of companies and coordinate with my insurance company. I almost paid for it myself. Then I get the darn thing and I've now tried around fifteen masks. At my pressure setting I have to pull the straps so tight I wake up in real pain. So I'm watching a video to try to consider if I'm missing anything and the guy says the best mask is no mask at all.
Duhhhh!!!!!!
Anyway, I get it. Some people have awkward senses of humor. Maybe he's not a bad guy.
Im a CPap user and there many types of masks . Sometimes people try a few types of masks or combination of head gear until they find a fit that works the best .
I can’t hear anything he says all I see are his arms and hands flapping all over the place… smh 🤦♀️
So very distracting
We apologize!
