Dashavatharam was and insane theatrical experience for me. Personally, I liked it very much, but as I walked out of theatre, everyone was upset about the movie, later we got news (non Internet era) that the movie flopped. But in this video, I got to know it was commercial success, I'm happy on that part. Coming to movie, as one of the comment says, we can definitely make a spinoff movie on the 12th century plot point, shaiva vs vaishnava battle and all that. It was that good. And as the rest of the movie goes, I don't think any good read why Kamal needed to do all those 10 roles. Only two were enough. Some of us the thought old Kamal and asin reincarnated as the new people, and some thought it's just two actors playing two different roles, doesn't have to be them continuation like that. That being said, I was awestruck by the Concept of the atheism vs religion and the collateral damage etc the movie tries to provide context to. In the beginning, the priest is killed just because he didn't said om namah shivaya. As sandy garu said, comparing the east vs west, the west is almost at the brink of collapse because a religion that holds the people or community together, gives them the feeling of oneness or the inclusion ness in not given by the religion. So the people are finding new ways, some are going to east and finding the illumination here and such. The crime rates are high, but religion one of the key moments of the human history, it brings people together, crime rates goes down, community feels will be formed and such. But it also to be noted the religion has managed to kill people as it is also saved many, like the double edged sword. True, in fact. Tsunami has killed many people, destroyed livelihoods of many south Indian and southern Asia, the movie portrays the event as both disaster and miracle. We have to talk about the trolley problem, it's in the simhadri movie too. The trolley problem asks are you willing to kill one person to save five? Simhadri kills Bhoomika's father to save the train. He saves up the collateral damage that was about to happen in case he didn't stopped that guy from getting in the train. But the blood is still in his hands. In the similar way, they show the collateral damage tsunami has caused around the world but it also leaves it to audience imagination, what would happen if the virus was leaked. The trolley problem happened again, due to act of God, the tsunami happened and it killed and saved people around on that same 1:5 ratio. Phoonk movie starts with Sudeep believing in science and wife believing in God, but the movie scars them so much so that in the end Sudeep starts believing in God and she leaving her faith. In opposition to that, the couple believer asin and atheist Kamal continued their love but they don't agree on each other belief and it ends on that note, Devudu ledu Ani cheppaledu, unte bavundedi antunnanau ani. That brings us to the last question, do we have the intellect to understand the God, Universe and such. The God created us or we created the God or such. Whatever the thoughts and belief of each individual, Dashavatharam neatly wraps up and asks and answers the question and puts much more questions forward. What are they? And how to find answer to it, well, that's a topic for another day.
Coming to epsiode, thank you both and the guest for interesting analysis and valuable input on the movie.

Thanks for this detailed comment. Religion is always a double edged sword, no doubt.

      Hello Ravi,
Did you happen to listen to the entire thing? Is this your first Podcast of ours or have you heard any of our earlier episodes to the fullest?
      This is a curious question

I have seen the entire episode and I have also seen many of your podcats before. In telugu, this is one of the best channels that talks about movies with pure love on movies and art. But few things can be improved.
I love to see if you guys talk more in detail. Like going deep into some specific scenes of the movie. How that scene could be if designed differently. Takeaway points from the movie. Editing patterns (just like you mentioned camera pans from the ceiling when introducing charaters establishing both location and character)
Dasavataram is entertaining but concept of the movie is over my head. I was never able to completely grasp its inner meaning. I still feel the same after watching entire podcast. So I just pointed it out.

41:10 I feel like you are looking at the wrong place if you take the same scenario with Scandinavian countries, where more than 90% of the population is non-religious or atheistic while these are the countries with best standard of living and lowest crime rate.

Speaking from experience, I feel Germany is mostly divided on being pro-religion and anti-religion. Yet, the country is very rich. The argument works because Europe/USA are first world countries that became free at least a 100 years before India even got it's independence and also there was a lot of Science incubation that happened in the respective countries' Universities. Innovation and Industrial Revolution catapulted them to a different league (supported by their colonies in other places). All the while this "development" was happening before the beginning of the 20th Century, these countries were very religious and conservative. A lot of USA/Germany still is. But the opposite side started gaining ground, come modernisation/post-modernisation. So what Sandy says is in context with the woke "ideology" taking over schools and universities and fundamentally trying to move young minds away from whatever beliefs they could/may have, to a strict "woke" doctrination which imposes rules and does a lot of stuff that probably cannot be put in the comments section. There is ofcourse a lot of nuance and historical context to both the arguments. Happy to take this forward on our Discord server.

This conversation would have been enjoyable during my travel. I downloaded it for my commute, but I stopped listening because the third person’s repetitive ‘psch, psch’ sounds were quite irritating. I apologize for the harsh criticism, but they should address this talking trait
