From a lifelong Drew Brees fan, these are the reasons I think he never won MVP in the seasons he could've: 2006 - LaDainian Tomlinson was going absolutely crazy, and a kinda low total TD and win total (26 TDs and 10 wins) 2008 - High interceptions (17) and low win total (8) 2009 - This one I just genuinely don't understand. Most people I talk to about it say it was because Peyton Manning beat him out in the win streak race (New Orleans started the season 13-0 while Indianapolis ended up starting 14-0), but even then that feels pretty weak 2011 - Aaron Rodgers had a ridiculous TD-INT ratio and the highest TD% in the league while also winning 14 games in 15 starts, while Brees was 13-3 with a lower TD percentage and TD-INT ratio 2012 - Brees had a a lot of picks (19) and a low amount of wins (7). I don't know how many people actually think about this one as a Brees MVP level season, but I think it's worth including because he somehow got the Saints to 7 wins despite having a top 10 worst defense ever (They gave up over 7,000 yards, the most in NFL history by a healthy margin) 2018 - Mahomes went absolutely crazy in just his first season (5000+ yards and 50 TDs), and while Brees was looking incredible too (3135 yds, 29 TD, 2 INTs, on 76.4% completion through week 11), he had a pretty gnarly fall off and ended the season playing only 4 of the last 5 games of the season, in which he threw 857 yards, 3 TDs, and 3 INTs on 69.2% completion. After 2018 he continued to play well, especially in 2019, but injury and a degenerative shoulder condition stemming from his '05 injury ended his days of playing truly elite football, and thus he never got a chance to compete for MVP after that.
