I grew up in the 50's and 60's where first, you had a football game and then you had tv deciding to broadcast the game Tv did not mandate when timeouts were to occur and for how long and you certainly didn't interrupt the game for a TV time out. The logic behind that is not hard to fathom. Much of what affects the outcome of a game is dependent on conditioning. Inserting TV timeouts into the equation that otherwise would not be occurring, clearly undermines the initial intentions of the rules of the game. The difference is impossible to ignore to anyone that pays close attention. The insertion into the format of a game winning drive that takes 7 minutes off the clock is totally disrupted by adding one or two TV timeouts into what otherwise would have been non stop play.
Same is true for basketball which is even more conditioning dependent.
I have always felt, other than negotiate time and location of a game TV needs to just feel privileged they have been allowed to televise the game. Whoever opened the door to allowing TV networks to govern how these games are played did football and basketball game enthusiasts a huge disservice.
I suppose its no accident that greed became more and more important at the exact same time and this seems to be a statement of what folks will do for money. Of course all this NIL and the like talk is part of the greed agenda. Athletes used to feel privileged that they got a free college education in exchange for their athletics playing time and it shows how far we have come. It's why Nick Saban retired and its why the original spirit of the game is being lost a little more each year.
I quit watching college basketball when player loyalty dissolved into a one year advertisement of skills to then get drafted (around 1985). Now I think a football player can go pro after three years. That will soon be undermined, and I think an examination as to why these kinds of changes are being instituted is in order

Gotta disagree with Terrance Edwards. I'd be surprised if he ever signs with Florida St
