So just to comment on Polestar2 charging curve.I got my 2021 standard AWD in October.
Used EA only couple of times (before 1.7 ota updete),and it charged at 150kw steady up to 50% state of charge. Then it slowly tappers of up to 80%.
It still pulls 90kw at 80%
So in my opinion, charging curve is very good

Wow, 2 hours of video? You guys are making a movie. Thumbs up before watching just for the effort you put into it, Kyle. Good job. One addition: I think it's worth mentioning about each of their real-world ground clearance since they all call themselves "SUVs". Thanks to your dad that just measured the ID4 AWD which has 8.2", I believe it is the most suitable "SUV" out of the batch, about 2" taller than its competitors here. And a taller ride also contributes to more consumption (worse mile per kw). But it is probably the only one that I could dare to take to go onto the beach or onto the dirt roads.

      @evolv.e 2 года назад +3

I really love the diversity and seeing more models to choose from with their own flavor and features. Given there’s all have similar range, an equally important consideration is how long do each of these take to charge. The VW, Polestar, and Ford can take up to twice as long compared to the Model Y to add the same amount of energy depending on SOC. Add that the more efficient Tesla goes further on the same amount of energy and it all amounts to less time charging/waiting to charge and a very noticeable difference when traveling away from home.
Our family has purchased five EV’s over the last 8 years, and no other brand is as easy or fast to recharge as Tesla’s Supercharging network. I’m not against any non-Tesla, but also know how important it is to be aware of this major difference in charging, before making a major EV purchase. Happy shopping!

Well, I'm still watching the video so I might make some more comments, but as a new owner of a Polestar 2 as of last Thursday I will say that the purchase experience and availability were both excellent. I ordered mine online on 9/20 and picked up 11/4. 2022 Model Year, everything but Performance Package and leather. The whole process was painless and seamless and the only part that felt traditional to your point was going into the dealer to sign the usual paperwork, which was a non-issue as a good chunk of that was government mandated (title, plate application and so on). Beyond that I did get the dealership upsell of wheel, tire and windshield protection which I took as it only slightly increased my monthly payment and with US roads crumbling as badly as they are I figured it wouldn't hurt. All in all, an excellent and simple buying experience that I'd recommend to anyone.

I made this decision, and chose the Mach-E (and have ordered a GT). I don't like Tesla interior layout, style or service options, did not want to deal with the Polestar service experience and smaller storage capacity, and the id.4 is not the driver's car I wanted. I have a great local Ford dealer, the Mach-E had my favorite interior layout and functioning, and even the GT (non-Performance Edition, which is what I chose) gets 270 miles of range with a sub-4 second 0-60. Regardless, though, I'm thrilled U.S. buyers finally have *choice* (with more to come) of EVs in this segment!

@Kyle Conner I believe the Polestar has an efficiency mode, Its called "Range Optimizer". Reason I say this is, I have a Volvo XC40 and it runs on the same 1.7 OTA that was just delivered. It would have been neat if your driver had a moment to find this in the infotainment system (which is very easy to find it) and test using that. It is supposed to make the car a bit more efficient. Not sure if it changes the charging curve, either You or Tom M can test this. Great video as usual!!

I am loving my Polestar 2, but there is simply no denying they need to work on efficiency. They have added a heat pump option for 2022 along with software updates to increase the range, but they really need to get the weight down as I think that is the single biggest negative with the PS2.
Still, if you have a 2nd car better suited for long road trips the Polestar 2 is an otherwise great daily driver.

These all look like race cars (even the mustang) and Rolls-Royces to me simultaneously compared to the base model Subaru Crosstrek that I’m currently rocking lmao. Although the Mustang is disappointing in the performance department, that interior, design, and software is phenomenal, however. Tesla is of course all around phenomenal, but something about it lacks charm to me. There are so few customization options that it feels like every Tesla driver has the same car. ID.4 is a fantastic daily driver crossover, and possibly what I would buy if I had a realistic budget and shopping criteria, but it is a different style entirely compared to the rest. They’re all going athletic/mean and VW is going practical/happy. Both choices have merit. I like that ambient lighting though lol. Polestar seems the least interesting to me, but I will admit that body design is sleek as hell. And those gold belts and calipers are also sweet. My overall consensus (even though nobody asked for it nor even knows who I am): I’d buy the Mach E as a daily for that interior and software, or the ID.4 for its overall value, space, and vibe. I wouldn’t DC fast charge enough to warrant charging curve playing a major role in the decision, hence Mach E. ID.4 and Tesla are close seconds and thirds. Polestar doesn’t stand out to me in any place that counts, so I couldn’t see myself ever choosing it, but it isn’t bad by any means. Model Y is also great, as we all know, but it feels like it would get stale after a while. Something about the fact that they’re popular, but you always see the white color, turbine wheels, and same minimalist interior. It’s like the Model T of the modern era. EV for the masses that is insanely practical but highly mass produced The performance is cool, but like I said, I’m coming from a base model Crosstrek with the manual trans and everything, so performance and speed play almost no role in my choice since they would all feel like light speed to me. I respect Tesla and would love to own one, but if I could pick, I would go with the Mach E. All of the problems he raised with it are totally legitimate. Something about it’s character and vibe speaks to me though.
I had no expectation for you, whomever you may be, to read this, but since you did, tell me your verdict on the four vehicles. I am actually curious since all the categories they covered have different value to different people. Like performance isn’t a big one for me, but it clearly is to them to a decent extent. This is an insanely long comment, so thanks for your time.

Kyle, just about everyone I know purchased their Mach E online like I did and I paid MSRP like everyone else, yes you go to the dealer to pickup the car but if you buy the car online it’s a fixed price the dealer can’t charge it after ... the only time the dealer has control over the price is when the dealer purchased the car and reselling it at whatever price they want but whatever price you locked in online is the price you pay.

People who say the Polestar is too expensive need to watch this. You guys show why it's so expensive. Of course, it could be better. I also think it has the best quality interior. It's also clear the two European cars have the best build quality and build quality doesn't go away as a priority because a car is electric. If anything, it's a good reason for paying more for a vehicle. I think the Polestar 2 PP is too firm for rough roads, the standard suspension is firm but not in such an extreme way. At the end of the day, better for vehicles to be sedans for performance than crossovers and chassis sophistication matters. The Mach E isn't much of a Mustang and not terribly sporty until you get into the GT. But I don't think it needed to be called a Mustang. It's good, though.

I'm mostly looking between the ID.4 and MY. The latter really depends on if the price drops next year, or if I can find a good deal on a used one.
The ID.4 is such a good value. My only gripe with it is the lack of a front-trunk. It's the perfect spot to place things like toolkits and the portable EVSE. That way your cargo isn't in the way if you need to grab those things.

Take them on some twisties and a hill climb, etc., and see how they stack up, esp over some time, say a morning in the mountains. I think there's a lot of people in the 'entry-level' performance category that would really find it helpful. Cheers!

I'm okay with reserving some battery life, it's the same case for ICE cars as well. Your fuel light came up earlier than 0 mile left, and most cars can still run after it shows 0 mile. But it is bad for your fuel pump to run at super low fuel level. So you are not going to run it dry anyway. I don't know why people say tesla's seat is comfortable. I'm 6'2, being a big guy, tesla's seat is a bit too small and narrow for me, padding is thin, and no ventilation seat is a killer for us living in the south. ID4 Pro S doesn't have vent seat neither, but it's fake leather (same as tesla's) is perforated, so there is some air flow underneath, and the padding is way more comfortable. Also, I have to disagree with the guy on glass roof. I actually like that none of the traditional car maker have a glass extends above the rear seat, because although you get more head room sitting upright, on road trip most people in the back would recline the seats and chill. However, being 6'2, that huge bar where glassroof ends actually bump into the back of my head. I have much worse experience in the back of model Y than others.

When I was shopping for a replacement for my 2015 Tesla Model S 70D, all of these were at least kind of considered and I ended up with an ID.4 RWD Pro S w/Gradient.
    My thoughts:
Mach-E: Too expensive compared to Model Y, not a fan of the interior, fan of the exterior design, poor DCFC strategy, no free charging
Polestar 2: My favorite, but not as good of a value compared to ID.4. Best suspension and styling and very unique car.
Model Y: Everyone has one which makes it not very special, rough ride, loud cabin at interstate speeds and lack of availability.
ID.4: Readily available (at least when I was shopping in July), 3 years free charging on EA, most comfortable (massaging lumbar!), VW quality, awesome charge curve - only wish I had gone AWD (wasn’t available yet) for better performance.

I've actually newly ordered the Polestar 2, but not the dual motor - I went for the standard range single motor. I almost never need to fastcharge, so I felt I'd rather save some money (the standard range charges slower than long range, which might be important if you often need to use DC charging - it's not very important to me). The front is comfortable but no where near as comfortable as the ID.4. I couldn't imagine paying $10k more for the Volvo than then ID.4 knowing I'd be significantly less comfortable.

Its like the id.4 is paradoxically the least "sporty" but the most planted? I think its not really a paradox if you consider it in more of a "Stiff vs soft" and "Predictable vs unpredictable." A stiff but unpredictable car isn't actually desirable (and an actual ICE mustang sedan is known for having that problem). Soft but predictable/planted feel is obviously a good thing.
