- With the new update, farms became more complex...fertilizer and fertility are not as straight forward as one may think, so I hope this is useful to someone.
My tutorials and how to guides are aimed at new players, who may have skipped the in game tutorial or found issue with the same. This game has many hidden features, and I aim to show you all of them.

WR:SR is an amazing sandbox city/republic builder, that allows you to control all aspects of your new country, from citizens happiness, health, education to production chains, vehicle and resource production, import export. You can do all this by truck, train, ship, and in the near future plane. There are a million ways to make your republic your own and that’s what we will do.

On an actual farm where there are multiple fields the solid fertiliser will stop adding once the field reach 40% nutrient/150% fertility in order to move on to the next field that isn't being tended to yet. Growing reduces the nutrient level by 20% each year so the two fertilising phases require 24t solid fertiliser and 25t liquid fertiliser per big field per year.
Thanks!
One more thing that should be added: Fields actually gain fertility slowly over time by just laying fallow and unused, even when not assigned to any farm or having any fertilizer added to them. I've seen fields go as high as 150% just for being unattended. I noticed this because I like to plan my areas way in advance, laying out buildings in-game years before I actually start construction.
Presumably this kind of field rotation could be used in the very early game, before you have your own fertilizer industry, and plenty of free land.
I mentioned that ;)
Thank you for helping me, a lot. My comrades were at total panic after the update. Now faith in the partyleader has restored. :)
Lol, that's awesome!
Your lack of faith in the Party leader has raised concerns with the NKVD. They would like a word with you and your family.
Thank you! I am intrigued by this game, and love the idea of these subject specific short tutorials! It would be good to also understand what the differences between the small farm and its larger sibling, and some idea of crops to population for food ? and maybe clothes ?
Farm buildings... just number of spaces for vehicles, and the medium and large farm have a pipe connection.
How many crops you need for your population...that's relatively easy to show in each situation... just look at your consumption of clothes/food/alcohol per month by your population, then look at the productions and go backwards to get tonnes of crops...it's a shifting number, and you probably always want to overproduce, plus export, which is why I don't know the per person numbers.
- 1t of food = 2,1t of crops
- 1t of cattle = 2,0t of crops
- 1t of meat = 2,0t of cattle
1.000 PAX need 515t crops: 315t for food + 200t for meat (or 100t cattle)
I don't know the numbers for fabrics / clothes.
Also keep in mind the use of crops for chemicals! ;)
What's the cutoff for transporting crops from a field before they rot/turn to fertilizer?
Also in case anyone is wondering, the new border pipeline connections can't import liquid fertilizer, only the oil-based liquids. I found that one out the hard way
December 4.
so much to figure out with all this new stuff. at least we will see comrade tractor working throughout most of the year then lazing about in the shed after spring
Just like a farm:)
Very interesting ingame mechanic :) I would say that it makes sense in a first year just sow the crops and let them rot to get the first fertilizer boost (solid)? Simple math is that harvester can harvest up to twice more, tractor is basically more fuel demanding right now because he drives twice within a year (when fertilizes first) and trucks need to be doubled or some grain silo/warehouse/train loading station somewhere in the middle of all fields? So many possibilities :D
I noticed you have % visible in the status bar like sowing/growing/harvesting etc. is that a beta feature or can I turn it on in the main game version? Thanks.
Beta. And yeah :)
Interesting im just about to start Farming in my Republic soonish 😃. Byw im catching up on S8 episodes and i see you putting pipes in for chemistry plants. I put big pipes for sewer and my whole city of 7k ppl cant even fill a small pipe, they need to implemet a Pipe/Powerline Upgrade system, instead of taring everything down.
Yeah...that system would be amazing...for now everything in utilities gets maxed, so I don't need to worry later, especially around cities :)
It seems like a good starting strategy for realistic mode with farms is to put fields and just sow them for a first year (or few years) without collecting crops, so they will fertilise over time, while everything else is being build
I think you'd have to sow and harvest...not sure if a planted field turns into solid fertilizer, I'd guess it doesn't...
@@bballjo oh right, I misunderstood. It would be kinda cool if grown but not harvested crops would also turn into fertiliser, just "less efficiently"
Indeed
Nice video! I was playing Slovakia map with 75k people, but I used a workshop farm ("ferma") that isn't updated to have fertilizer. Now I have to replace all the farms with the vanilla farm!
What waste truck you use? I used a truck that takes too long time to load fertilizer in the custom house...
Always use the container trucks to manage waste in large quantities
I had been experimenting with this too (big farming fan!). Just to be clear, we need around 3/4 trucks per field? Im managing my 30 fields, with two large farms, with 15 tractors, 15 harvesters and 30 trucks. and even with asphalt in the main roads, still cant pick up most of the grain produced. Maybe 2 mediums farms connected to a large silo for the trucks, and a large for others mechanisms?
That's the test I was talking about that this video isn't and I don't have an answer for yet
It’s not trucks per field, it’s trucks per harvester. Two is the minimum, probably three usually. You’ll be better off keeping them in a distribution office then, because you can then use the same trucks to move the grain to another destination during the non-harvest season.
Its probably best to build a truck factory before really getting into mechanised farming, because you need so darn many to keep crop industries running.
@@joshuabanner3675 I use to get into crops early game with trucks, but once I got my railway line start using trains for moving them. Distribution office use less trucks and fields than farms, in the long run when trains start moving it pays. Two farms solve the problem (or use to) giving you double the trucks per mechanism
Greetings comrade, I play with the waste service disabled. I also need fertilizer for the field?
Yes
I am having an issue where the fields arent being fertilized... I have liquid fertilizer, I have all of the equipment, but nothing. 9/10 farms worked the first year, and then 1/10 worked the second year. Very confused. Anybody have any ideas?
What is your fertility setting for the farm?
Why does this game not have an autosquare hotkey? I'm tired of things not being perpendicular
I havent played in months, so I'm having to catchup with all the new additions. One question I would like to know the answer to is if fertilizer is even worth the cost? Crops are cheap, so is it worth spending money on fertilizer for the extra yield, or do you in the end lose money?
I'd guess it's worth it, because you are already doing all the work...so the question is does the added cost for fuel in the tractor (extra driving for fertilizer) plus the cost for fertilizer (super cheap)make sense? I'd guess yes...at the very least, you need to make sure you have enough crops in your republic, and importing may be too slow or cost to much congestion, which has ripple effects by itself...
@@bballjo thats good to know. i assumed that solid fertilizer was expensive because i assumed chemicals were used to make it, but if its cheap then that is worth it. i'm starting your 3 hrs stream "on how to get started in 2023" because so much has changed in the game, so im trying to catch up before i start a new game.
You need so many farms to feed just one food factory. I think I calculated that my entire harvest could provide crops for the factory for like 20 days.
With fertilizer, that's not the case anymore
How do you show the additional info in the field window that shows how much fertilizer is in a field?
It shows while cheat mode is active
@@bballjo It does not in my game (recent update, non-test version). Also i do not see "cheat mode activated" popup on your screen, is there another way beside 'CHE' to activate cheat mode, maybe another cheatmode?
@rspawn maybe it's cheat and ctrl
@@bballjo yes that's it, thanks
Is there anything to stop me from deleting fields after harvest, restoring soil and replacing for 70% fertility yearly?
No, but 70% is pretty bad to start from...
@@bballjo ageed, I've not played on the beta yet but could this be a cheesy money saver early on?
Well.. maybe? Fertilizer is just really cheap....so you will literally save dozens of bucks...
In the latest update, it seems the exploit to restore grass on bare soil has been removed; you now have to wait several days for it to grow back. Well, either that, or I'm pressing the wrong key. (Edit: Pressing "N" to restore grass only works when the cheat menu is activated, annoyingly; which makes initially placing fields much more fiddly than it needs to be.)
my fields are weird or i dont know i have something about 50 tons of crops from big field and yes fertility is 200-150% and yes i do have liquid and also solid fertilizer pls help
What's the size in ha for the field? Should be around 4.x...
4.81 ha per one big field i counted it today and its still something about 250 tons of crops per one big field (4.81 ha)@@bballjo
nvm already found out where is the problem you need to turn on winter/summer cycle :D@@bballjo
How to get access to the update?
Opt in to beta
and where is the beta version?
I found it, thanks bballjo.
Glad you're in!
does pollution impact fertility?
It impacts health, and fertility is lumped in with health ( your citizens have kids ever x years, and if their life expectancy is low, they will have less kids)
@@bballjo I kinda meant crop/field fertility.
Ah! Don't think so, but crops cause "pollution", so if s water well is placed near a field, the field reduces water quality...
Fields are too small in this game.
