They are in the same places just at different times with a 500 year difference.
For context they are both on a similar journey but with a 500 year gap between which is why they are at the same location but it seems different.
The siblings are very Co-dependant before coming to this world, since they just jump from world to world they only have eachother as constants but this world, Teyvat, split them apart and nerfed them ao both went on seperate journeys to find eachother at diferent times with the main MC having been sealed and asleep for 500 years while the other twin was searching for them.
Something happened and the other Twin who isn't the MC joined the abyss, "evil faction." And now the MC has to try and find out why they joined the abyss and why their twim wont just return to their side yet.
Ok to better understand why this is so "emotional", Imagine you are with your sibling if no, with your bestfriend. You somehow get powers to go to other worlds, after years and years of traveling you enter a world where you two get separated and your powers got nerfed, your sibling/friend wakes up in WW1 and you wake up in WW2, your sibling/friend joins the german army and you can't understand why, you have yet to choose a side and you just want to meet with your sibling/friend and just gtfo

Well this animation is mostly for players who already know the story and at least did We Will Be Reunited quest with Dainsleif. Basically, both twins had their journey across the nations of Teyvat, but separated by 500 years. Before coming to Teyvat they always travelled together in other worlds - that's probably what flashbacks were about
And now they can't reunite because Lumine, the girl, got tangled up in some local shenanigans regarding gods and a destruction of a nation that she witnessed
If you've played Genshin Impact for three years straight the devs just broke your heart, but the company taking advantage of your feelings aside, the artists that worked on the animation really went wild and showed just how incredibly talented and passionate they are with their work.
I wish ican see a full genshin anime befor i die this is soo awesome
Just milking views off a franchise you don't give a crap about, unfortunate, wish I could take my watch time back.

If you have a problem with my criticism and the criticism of "Genshin fans" then maybe you shouldn't bait "Genshin fans" with your milking of the IP for views with an unenthusiastic and ignorant reaction to the content.
