Had the pleasure of meeting David Shepherd at the Warley Model Railway Show one year. I was only a young lad but he was such a lovely, kind man.
He signed a print of Black Prince for me.
A true gentleman in every sense of the word! Sadly missed!

When David came on board the Ark royal to gather inspiration for the painting He did of Her which is in the FAA museum RNAS Yeovilton, one of my Flight deck officers arranged for me to have a 1-2-1 with Him as I did art, I went down to His cabin at 19:00hrs and finally left just before midnight, He wanted to see my art and gave me many pointers & in return wanted to know what life was really like on the ship he was about to paint. His painting is IMHO the best depictions of the ship ever done, full of feeling and atmosphereA great unassuming man who has been an inspiration to many for years and yearsHis art will never die

That musical piece that starts at 5:10 - fairly sure that was used in another BBC production about railways starring Michael Palin

Great video one small mistake though when the presenter at beginning of the programme talks about the Atlantic Coast Express he says it ran from london to Bournemouth then the westcountry. Its incorrect it ran from London Waterloo via Salisbury and Exeter not Bournemouth

Yeah I would like to see some more if you had them. I know of at least 4 more episodes. One in Scotland on the Strapshey railway, the Keighley & Worth Valley, another one in Scotland on Fort William & Mallaig and another was Settle & Carlisle.
