Very good video. This has been on my mind, actually considering pulling all tracks from streaming services & only delivering minute and a half versions to those platforms and going direct download and physical only.....

Thanks, it feels a bit like a wave is coming from all the artists I work with and the other engineers I speak to. Musicians are sick of Spotify but can't seem to quit but I think with more options for small run physical merch they can start taking the power back. Please keep me posted on your thoughts and journey and if you make any videos about it, let me know!

P.s. I think having snippets like you suggest is a great idea - the streaming can have the teasers for the real thing - that way you can still get discovered globally annd playlisted but people who like your stuff have to support you in the right ways.

@@raretonemastering I am excited for the future of recorded music media and the resurgence of physical. Spotify is a scam as far as I am concerned an independant artists on spotify is NOT an indepoendent artists because the majors are profiting of the music that is streamed. I will definitely be making some videos in the near future and will do.

@@raretonemastering EXACTLY !!! Thanks. I am what some would call old school, producing and engineering from the 90's. I understand sales, streaming still doesn't make much sense or hold much value as far as I see. The limited run physical merch is brilliant. Even if its a limited run of exclusive mixes/remixes of a track, it has great potential value for the artist and the fan.
I have slowly been taking music down since last year but the process seems to be getting annoyingly slower.
Anyways keep up the good work, loving the videos and convos.

I was just thinking that back in the day bootlegs were the thing to watch out for but now with spotify etc its is nigh on impossible to prove or verify how many streams you did or did not get. At least with physical its traceable and accountable.
Also your point about the 1000 fans definitely negates the necessity to have a hit which makes streaming worthwhile.

Yeah, that's another great point about Bootlegs. I'm encouraging the artists I work with to think about short runs of vinyl like that. Special, limited edition, alternative mixes/masters, out takes, works in progress, even voice notes, collabs, split EPs etc. So much to talk about!
