i love your content. i master for a while now and what i notice is that there is significantly less lo end on many vinyl masters. so when i make the premasters for the cutting engineer i do the regular eq-moves and keep the dynamics intact even if i do apply some compression and expect the cutting engineer to do the necessary moves regarding lo end and hi freq limiting. but i guess you mentioned in a prev vid that the lo end needs to be reduced in order to have a loud track on the vinyl. great advice regarding the -14lufs thing, feels like youre the first to break it down to what it is.
keep it up and i hope the channel grows. most videos about mastering are only helping to sell gear and plugins. great job, mate!

Thanks so much, glad you're enjoying the videos. No courses or plugins to sell here ;)
With low end it's always a trade off between available cutting time and amount of low end so time plays a big factor as well. Low end, overall cutting volume and available cutting time are all linked. I think that and the -14LUFS points are probably worth doing separate videos on actually!
And, any other questions/comments, please let me know, it helps me with ideas for more videos!

I wonder do you use software like
TDR Simulathe for your masters ?

Simulate is a great tool and I love all TDR plugins actually but I have everything set up so it’s super quick for me to do a test cut and listen/analyse. I should start using it more really!

      @ What do you think
is it a good tool for mastering to vinyl ?
I mean should I need and get something like that?

@@Chaos-Dynamics It's a great tool and will give insights into any potential problems. TDR lets you download all plugins to test out before you buy so download and have a play to see if it suits your workflow.

@ Thanks for your reply, once the album is finished recording and mixing I will give it a try.
Would be great to have a vinyl master 🤟🏼

@@Chaos-Dynamics Sure thing! Keep me posted on the progress and how you find it! (I recommend all of the TDR plugins. The latest filter bundle is amazing and TDR Eliptical is great for ensuring mono low end)

Great video! I do have a question about peak-level recommendations for streaming masters, though. My standard master is capped at -0.2 dB, but I’ve seen recommendations for streaming platforms to be at -1.0 dB. Should I simply reduce the output by 0.8 dB to meet this standard? Or is it better to leave it as is and let the streaming encoders handle it? Or perhaps there’s another approach you’d recommend? Looking forward to your advice-thanks again for sharing your expertise!

Hey Kevin! Thanks for your comment! Great question too! In short - leave it as it is, you’ll notice most commercial music is mastered a lot hotter than streaming platforms suggest! Some go way over 0db even! I’ll make a video to go into more detail though and reach out anytime. Thanks, Ben

Thanks so much, Ben! That clears things up-I’ll keep things as they are for now. I do remember seeing that in some of my favourite masters, even going beyond sometimes (I don't know how, but it did). Looking forward to the video you mentioned and I appreciate your expertise and willingness to share your insights. Keep up the awesome work.
