I enjoy hunting them, I then mostly give them away (mostly for Christmas) but, when I know someone would appreciate it more than me I'll give it to them. we don't have a lottery here though, just when I walk in and see them.
For most people moving the liquor stores into the private sector is good. For bourbon hunters however you can forget ever getting allocated stuff in a private state. I've checked 4 stores per week for a year, have never found a weller, blantons or eagle rare. In private states the allocated bottles go to owners and there friends.
I bought a Bookers in Georgia today. $99, I've also got an eagle rare from the same store and that's just driving by as I travel. But yes if you are actually winning in the lottery you'll get better bottles.
I have been binge watching these bourbon hunting videos for 2 days now.. They are extremely interesting and well shot. What's more,I don't drink bourbon! or any spirits for that matter.. Although,I have recently gotten into red wine,so i can relate to the tasting notes. Great videos. new subscriber.
As a resident of Mississippi, I'm kinda jealous of the Alabama system. As the guy said at the beginning, at least you guys have a chance to get a bottle at MSRP. I can't tell you the last time I've seen a rare allocated bottled anywhere near MSRP. The rare times I see something like EHT, Weller, etc they're at least 2x MSRP but usually they're reserved for "top customers". Even Eagle Rare that happens to pop up around here is $100. Unfortunately, our state is a huge bottle neck as our system is terrible and all liquor goes through a state run warehouse.
Another fun video! As far as that trade, if you are both happy then so be it and you opened your bottle right then and there with him so I do not see any issues with it! Bottles are made to be opened and drank! That seemed like more of a swap with a friend than a random trade too so I am sure at some point you "lose" out on what gets exchanged and sharing is caring.
If God was a Bourbon Hunner.... his name would be TJ. Take that to the bank y'all.🤠 Love this channel - don't know where you muster the energy from for so many videos man but it makes the world a brighter and oakier place.... and the proof is in drinking.😛
It's crazy hearing people complain about this system. Come to a state like Illinois where you just won't get anything ever and you'll understand. I'd kill for a lottery to at least have a chance. I don't have the time to show up at 8:00am at stores or the money to spend 5k a month at any particular store to get a "relationship". Grass is always greener, but man appreciate that you have a shot there.
Yep, agreed. I live in private state and it's all about spending thousands to get a "chance" at a bottle that's going to be marked up at least 3x retail anyway. I've got family in control states and they win bottles every year in lotteries I'll never even see on a shelf. The ABC thing seems like a pain and the free market looks appealing from a distance, but it doesn't favor the common man one bit.
The gentleman at about 1:30 mentioned not having ABC would mean being able to get stuff at MSRP, but that depends on the stores in a place like GA (where I am). We have some package stores that just mark the allocated stuff up knowing people will eventually buy it not worrying about the space it's taking on the shelves. There is one near me that keeps Eagle Rare at $80 and they get folks that will pay. Luckily the store attached to our Costco sells at MSRP, but it's hit or miss.
💯! Without state run stores you can forget MSRP. Same deal in Tennessee. Blanton’s +$100, E.H Taylor +$90, Eagle Rare +$80 and it’s either pay or go without.
💯 False! With a caveat. It depends on who can sell liquor and what involvement the state still has. California of all places has generally cheap liquor, Washington State is super high, when they went away from state controlled they added tax. Louisiana is stupid cheap if Walmart or a grocery store has something. Angels envy and heaven hill 7 year are both available for $40. I've seen the whole lineup of Knob Creeks at Walmart for less than I've seen them at ABC states.
Here's an idea. If you apply but don't get on, the next time your name goes in the hat an extra time. If you miss again, you have 3 names in the hat. And so on, until you are more and more likely to hit. If you hit, you are back to 1 chance the next time.
Buddy should not have "mixed emotions". He gets an opportunity to buy allocated liquor at msrp because the state controls the prices, making both the price AND the opportunity fair. In Georgia (where we don't have ABC stores), I have an "opportunity" to buy Weller's 12 Year for $199, while in some ABC states, people are paying $50-70. I've seen Full Proof (and Birthday Bourbon) for $650 in South Carolina. So the opportunity is fair, but the price isn't.
Even if not at MSRP, at ABCs North of the 41st it's within $20 of MSRP and sitting on a shelf. They go fast though and we never know when they come in. No lottery on allocated stuff or here. Less variety, no store picks but near MSRP atleast.
Im leaving opelika to move back to valley, cool to see a local successful youtuber. Just bought my first ever whiskey after watching you for a couple weeks.

Have an allocation list and sell them as they come in with one bottle off the list per week per government ID. The Government ID should be scanned and go in a statewide sheet per week so you can't double dip stores

There is quite a large looking liquor store that I have been meaning to go to in Columbus GA, it’s called “The Bottle Shop” seem like it is quite big and it might have some good picks.
I live in NC near the SC border which is all I need in order to realize how much having a state run ABC sucks. I have to go across the border to get any kind of a selection, and the prices are better to boot.
Says he’ll do trades that aren’t in his favor to get limited release ones. Then proceeds to trade Blanton’s, ER, and some rum store pick for a Birthday Bourbon 😂
If a friend traded me those 3 and gave me access to drink half the bottle I traded him I dont see how he is getting over in no way shape or form but that is bc I would likely share the bottle with my friend even without a trade so seems like a win/win.
@@JayareesYeah because he’s getting access to the open bottle for his channels content and then keeping his bottle to trade or sell later. Open your eyes a little bit
@@johnwill7962- that's assuming a lot about a man who openly advocates that bottles are for sharing. That bottle was getting popped regardless of whether he got 1 or 2, I assume from watching all his content. But to each their own in their philosophy. Again I would be happy receiving the 3 bottles plus drinking half that bottle. I dont trade i drink and I share and mostly those 2 things happen together bc I rarely drink by myself. Whatever he does with that second bottle is up to him and if he can get a much greater return and invites me to share in the bottles he gets all the better I win again. Finally tried Blantons and Eagle rare, although I’m behind the hype behind blantons and agree it’s more of a complex flavor I think I favored Eagle Rare. Anyone’s thoughts on this?
Eagle rare is an absolutely fantastic bourbon if you get it for the right price. These places charing $80+ for a 750 makes it start to lose its appeal. I personally just don't like Blantons at all.
Eagle rare is a great bottle at msrp and so is Blantons but honestly which are you more likely to find? I managed to get a bottle of Blantons for $90 this past Saturday and I don't regret it at all because the bottle they had at the tasting was like butter to me. All in all both are great bottles nothing wrong with preferring Eagle Rare to Blantons especially with scarcity and pricing lately.

Just getting into bourbon and found your channel. Would love to see you come out to CO for a bourbon hunt/try the distilleries. Apparently the altitude gives a unique flavor
Oregon has a state liquor store system. The b@stards that run it were saving the allocated bottles for themselves or their friends. They never had a lottery, you had to know which day bottles dropped. I was able to finally get a bottle of Blantons when I figured this out. I live in MO now and the local does a loyalty drawing. I got a Weller green label at that one. Much better in the private sector.
Oregon lottery lists all the bottles available. You pick the ones that you want to enter and a store you want to buy it at. If you win, you get notified then go to the store you picked to pick it up.
I may take heat for this, but here is the answer on how to distribute bottles: the free market. I'm in Georgia, so everything I can get is just based on if I can find it and if I'm willing to pay. Nothing great is MSRP.
You mentioned spillway. I live in california, but through my bourbon group I got a 4 roses sbbpsp from spillway and I have a cut above Mississippi sippers store pick coming from spillway. Seems like a great store
Interested to here your opinion on this years Birthday Bourbon. From what ive been able to gather its not up to par with the other heavy hitters this year.
This last one in Mobile, I was 2nd on walk-in line. On the lottery, 13 didn’t show up including #1, 4, 7, & 9th so I ended being #39. Got the 107 & Elijah Craig Ryder Cup. Didn’t see no Jack Daniels Sinatra at my store
@@jamesnunn9648 Not sure I understand the hate on the trade, other than the rest of us wish we could do it 😆 Some people just don't care that much about specific bottles. No one got "ripped off"; it's just bourbon. And based on what I've been hearing about the latest BB, I think the other guy might have come out ahead!
Another great vid! Hey is that a 240 or a 280 that your son has? That's a good looking car! Love your videos man, I'm just getting in to bourbon. Just getting into Bourbon and loving the videos. Was excited to see that my local store had a bottle of Weller antique 107 and multiple bottles of Blantons. The antique 107 was $170. Is that an OK price, I live in a very expensive area and was wondering if I should pick it up.
What are your thoughts on pinhook. In my opinion i just dont understand why the palate is the way it is across several of their bottles. Ive tried store picks, up and down their verticals of bourbon and I’m just underwhelmed. Thoughts?
They the regular JDBP Rye instead of the advertised JD Heritage Rye. (Twice Barreled) I saw the same JDBPR sitting in the shelf at three stores in Georgia in the last few weeks!! PRIVATIZE!!!
@brewzle thinking about getting a crittenden distillery bottle a blue bolt 248 but not sure if I should spend the money on something else like Jack Daniel’s sb rye
I told him what it was going for on secondary, he set his desired trade. He knows he can get any bottle in my selection if he wants it. That’s how friends are.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the Sinatra is just regular old Jack Daniel's with the Sinatra name on it. Maybe they pull it from a certain area of the rickhouse, but that's it... not worth 150-200.

20 years from now, we will still be singing the song of the great Weller debacle.
Oregon lottery lists all the bottles available. You pick the ones that you want to enter and a store you want to buy it at. If you win, you get notified then go to the store you picked to pick it up.
The Weller debacle will never not sting.
I'll never recover
I wish I had the issue of a Blantons. It's impossible to find in AZ right now.
Had to sit in the hot sun for 4 hours for a Fry's drop to get my hands on one
5:35 I enjoy your program lol
You def ripped the guy off.
The guy knew what the bottle was worth and he's helped me drink half of it, so sounds like a good deal for him.
@@Brewzle You knew it was worth 700+. I mean personally. I still would have given him more. But w/e it's his bottle.
This guy could have gotten 8 weller 107s for that birthday bourbon lol
I may take heat for this, but here is the answer on how to distribute bottles: the free market.
I'm in Georgia, so everything I can get is just based on if I can find it and if I'm willing to pay. Nothing great is MSRP.
Here's the problem with kicking the state out of the liquor business. You end up with what we have up here in WA. A 20.5% sales tax AND $7/liter tax
Pennsylvania offers a lottery on state website. If you win (and your purchase) they ship it to you or a local state store
Beer.... Gravy gravity stouts. Blend barrels
You mentioned spillway. I live in california, but through my bourbon group I got a 4 roses sbbpsp from spillway and I have a cut above Mississippi sippers store pick coming from spillway. Seems like a great store
I love them! You'll enjoy those a lot
@@Brewzle I wish I could come out there for that barrel drop you are going to be at. That sounds like a lot of fun.
We don’t seem to get Blanton in North Carolina. Unless they are just saving them for the end of the year lottery.
Wow
Great video bud keep up the great work
Interested to here your opinion on this years Birthday Bourbon. From what ive been able to gather its not up to par with the other heavy hitters this year.
It's 12 years old and too oaky for me. It's good, but I would agree it's not as good as any other I've had.
@@Brewzle Aren't you glad I didn't take your trade offer?
Great video!!!
A great liquor store is Papa Joe's in Richmond, Indiana!
You did rip him off bad. Can’t do that TJ.
The guy knew what the bottle was worth and he's helped me drink half of it, so sounds like a good deal for him.
@@Brewzle good deal for him or you he’s the one the won the chance to buy. You took advantage or him and you know it.
Some jealous little girls in the comments section of this one. 🤣
@@Brewzle I want to apologize for my post as I did not know that part of the agreement. Sorry.
Another great vid! Hey is that a 240 or a 280 that your son has? That's a good looking car!
Love your videos man, I'm just getting in to bourbon. Always been into it with they typical Jack and coke or Evan Williams, but lately been starting my journey without the mix looking. Got an OF the other day that I like, and have been looking for a Buffalo Trace to try it as well.
Also its fun seeing you down around Auburn, live down here in Pensacola now, but wife and I meet at Auburn and lived there about 10 years before we moved down here so always fun seeing the old stomping grounds! Keep the videos coming!!!
Thank you! It's an 83 280zx! Thanks for the support of the channel. Buffalo trace is definitely worth trying! War Eagle!
Just getting into Bourbon and loving the videos. Was excited to see that my local store had a bottle of Weller antique 107 and multiple bottles of Blantons. The antique 107 was $170. Is that an OK price, I live in a very expensive area and was wondering if I should pick it up.
Its a bit on the pricey side but depending on your state it could be rare to find even one.
No way down here in Texas you can get it on the secondary for $100 on the higher end
That's a crazy price. Pass on it at that.
. If you absolutely had to have one id call $100 the tops and thats pushing it to the edge.
What are your thoughts on pinhook. In my opinion i just dont understand why the palate is the way it is across several of their bottles. Ive tried store picks, up and down their verticals of bourbon and I’m just underwhelmed. Thoughts?
Think y’all are spoiled. Never see 107, stagg, eh Taylor, blantons, eagle rare. Allocated means unicorn around me
Same
Congrats, Love my BD bourbon.
When TJ is in the Top 5 for the End of the Year raffle, we’re gonna know why.😉
He’d be #1, but that would raise a red flag. #4? no big deal. 😂
I don't think I'll ever win lol
They the regular JDBP Rye instead of the advertised JD Heritage Rye. (Twice Barreled) I saw the same JDBPR sitting in the shelf at three stores in Georgia in the last few weeks!! PRIVATIZE!!!
Love to see a review on James E. Pepper bourbons!
Then Peerless!
@brewzle thinking about getting a crittenden distillery bottle a blue bolt 248 but not sure if I should spend the money on something else like Jack Daniel’s sb rye
If your in east Mo. swing by A1 Wine & Spirits. St. Peters, Mo. Awesome store!
That Datsun though!
280ZX YES!
damn you def ripped him off on that birthday bourbon trade… guy could’ve got a gts for that swap lol
I told him what it was going for on secondary, he set his desired trade. He knows he can get any bottle in my selection if he wants it. That’s how friends are.
Friends also don’t take advantage of a situation like that. Even if he says that’s fine you still give him more instead of bending him over like that
I hate states with state Alcohol, I have decided that my winery wont sell in states that have it cause its too much hassle to be bothered with.
Can we take a second to appreciate wills Datsun 😍
Correct me if I'm wrong but the Sinatra is just regular old Jack Daniel's with the Sinatra name on it. Maybe they pull it from a certain area of the rickhouse, but that's it... not worth 150-200.
It is "extra aged" and 90 proof, like Jack used to be. Really good, but not nearly wroth the price.
It's a higher proof. It was intended to be more like the older version of Old No. 7 when Frank originally started drinking it.
@@Brewzle Thanks for the clarification and love the content as always!
Just go get yourself 5 or 6 Coopers Craft for the same money. Both Brown-Forman, Both chiseled barrels, with Coopers at higher proof.
@@DBTdad I do know a store that has Coopers Craft BiB I believe. Been wanting to try it and its only like 30 bucks.
In England and love your video's mate.
Fantastic video..thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
Sweet Z car!
Love your sons 280zx I have a 71’ 240 myself
I'm sure he would love pictures of that!
I have a liquor store in west palm beach florida and I just got the double eagles rare
Nice looking Datsun!
Thank you! -Will
