  • John Darwall lived from 1731 to 1789. He was an English clergyman and hymnodist. Born in the village of Haughton in Staffordshire, he was educated at Manchester Grammar School and at Brasenose College, Oxford (which he entered at the age of 14), graduating in 1756.
This hymn is set to various texts, one common combination is “Rejoice, the Lord is King!” or "Ye Holy Angels Bright".
This is performed on a Dominion Orchestral reed organ (also known as a pump organ), made in Bowmanville, Ontario Canada in 1910. Reed organs/harmonuims are loads of fun to play, and can play a wide range of genres! For more information on reed organs, visit www.rodneyjantzi.com.

Oh, that brought back visceral memories from my youth in the mid 50's when my church had a very similar organ. Still love that hymn, sadly we don't get to sing it these days.

I love the brilliance and power of this. Fun fact, this tune is also used for "Arise O God and Shine" in the Latter-Day Saint hymnal.

Love the 5th bass note played by the index finger of the left hand on the last chord. Clever trick to give the 32' resultant sound and not overpower the bass note on the great....too clever.

Yes, using the 5th on this organ's sub bass is just too "muddy", but using a 5th on the 16ft in the swell it is just that little extra that can give a powerful ending :)

LoL....Ear has not heard, eye has not seen....I'm sure when we finally reach home....we'll be rolling our eyes, laughing about how wonderful we thought Virgil Fox or E Power Bigss was...but I wish I could play better! Hurts to practice/play too much....torn roators and biceps, unfixable, so....sigh...praying for a Berlin!...or at least my Cottage gets fixes...think I found whats wrong...the front flaps...long strips curled up and died!...don't think it supposed to be glued...oh who knows! I made a video of this....maybe someone will have answers.

That can't be the same Manchester Grammar School as it is today as it is girls only. One of their MGGS buses goes past the shop I work in, I remember seeing it as it is one of the last if not the very last Volvo Olympian still going.

Rejoice the Lord Is King #715 in the UMC hymnal. Written by Charles Wesley in 1746
    (1 Cor. 15:51-52)
    1 Corinthians 15:51-52 (NIV)
51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed- 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
Sounds more like a verse out of Revelation!
    Blessings my friend, Terry
