    Pretty much the same way I do it. I don't throw away the strip of meat with the Y bones in it, I pickle them and you can eat them with no problem. Less waste then. Great video though, thanks for sharing.

      How do you pickle them?

    • @hubertstrzalkowski1261
      @hubertstrzalkowski1261 2 года назад

      @@senorracist you can flash fry the fish, tossed in flour, and then put them in jars with vinegar, salt, sugar, onion, spices, and seal the jars... just like pickling any other fish. The key, is to flash fry the pieces tossed in frour prior to pickling

    Sept. 11, 2018---Thanks for the video as I was wondering if they could be eaten and if so, how to cut them up. Reminds me of some cooking videos of people getting carp ready to eat, also by frying. Stupid question, but how bad/fine are the bones in a pike? I understand filleting them and then filleting the flesh from the skin. Can't the flesh/bones just be fried and pick out the bones like you do on a trout or bass?

    how long do you deep fry the pike fillet sections?

    I thought of a use for the y bone meat you can put it in a cheesecloth and make a fish stock! Maybe scrub a fin or two and put that in there

    Turn your fillet inside up. Now cut perpendicular to the fillet along the area of the Y bones about every 3/16 inch but not through the fillet. You will feel the knife cutting the bones. When you fry up the fish the bones will be gone. Learned the trick from an old Canadian fish camp owner.

    go around the ribs when you fillet......that sawing through makes your knife dull.

    I have a friend who refuses to fillet pike that are under 20 inches. How big are these pike?

    • @lillayhay100

      I got a boys trip coming up and if these pike are under 20 inches this video is useless to me. My friend doesnt mess around when it comes to under 20 inch pike. I once saw him break a tip-up over his knee bc he caught two 19 inchers in a row.

      What the hell? Who uses scissors to fillet a fish? That would be so wasteful and dumb. With the fillet knife, very little is wasted. It's all about getting the most meat from the fish and the least bones.
