Spencer's Gifts was never at El Centro Mall. That was The Gold Mine. That place smelled of weed the moment you walked by it. Lots of kid would buy their stink bombs there among other novelty items. they had the black light posters in the back along with the pool tables. Spencers was at La Plaza Mall. Originally located in the wing that leads up to JC Penney, and now closer to the new section.
You are correct. That is going back almost 40 years ago. Nobody but a few of us oldies would remember the Gold Mine, but most everybody knows Spencer's. There is a point to the poem, and I hope that it is clear while not worrying about the name of the store. Great comment.
