You're welcome @Wilf S 🙏. It's the same with any camera because cameras don't know when something is meant to be dark or bright so they can only 'average' everything. So when your image isn't 'average' it's unlikely you'll get what you want. ... MB
Thanks David. If there are other aspects of photography enrol on my online Masterclass course. This is just one of 100 or so lessons from it. I gurantee it'll clear up any similar confusions forever... MB www.photographycourses.biz/masterclass
Mike thank you.... Being of a certain age I started life on film using in camera and hand held light meters. Watching videos I see the use of histogram being used with exposures either over or under exposed on light meter. You have allowed this penny to drop ca-ching...... thank you sir.
(Alan Radley) Hi Mike I just had to mention this. I recently sent a link of some photos, to a friend. This was the reply I had. "Looks like you had great weather ! Your camera really does take great pictures" It made me laugh, and I immediately thought of you.
Another information packed video Mike, it certainly gets the point across. Sure I recognise the street from one of your Christmas videos a few years ago 😊👍📷
Excellent advice! I’ve argued with my light meter several times lol. But when starting out, everyone tells you to keep that meter on 0. Sometimes you just can’t trust it!
Glad to help. It's important to be able to shoot manual with ease so you can step in when the camera gets it wrong. At the end of the day it doesn't matter which mode you use if you're getting consistent results you're happy with...MB🙏😊
Hi @M Johnson. It depends on what mode you are in. And (forgive me but I haven't watched this video in many years) if I remember correctly, I changed ISO manually so that the shutter speed would come up a bit when adjusted via exposure compensation. Sorry if that sounds complex, to be honest when choose a shutter or aperture for cretive reasons, the ISO often has to change to allow thos choices. If you're on my Masterclass course, go back through the 2 Exposure sections and repeat the exercises a few times. If not I reccommend you enrol on it because for very little money it will give you confidence in both the camera and your own creativity. Yep they sure do. It's worthwile calibrating monitor and using a pro lab - or doing it yourself. Though that is a lot of faffing about to calibrate monitor, printer and different papers... MB
In this case it doesn't really matter because aperture won't affect depth of filed at the distance because distance to subject is beyone infinity. It was pretty bright and shutter speed was high enough there was no danger of camera shake so any of the 3 exposure controls could do the job and not affect anything creatively. If you complete my online Masterclass course there are many video tutorials like this one and exercises to give you experience. I guarantee it'll clear any confusion about these kind of issues forever. ... MB Masterclas Course: www.photographycourses.biz/masterclass
Yep… the camera industry uses imperial screws so they screwed the metering system by using Meter instead of feet… when the feet-o-feeter goes wrong… 🤪😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
I have doubted my light meter many times on my X-T3 , now I know I’m not insane……….it makes this amateur feel so much better. Thanks , Mike.

Short, sweet, entertaining and informative. Another excellent MB video. Thanks Mike.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!...MB🙏😊
Classic teaching. It’s very clear now when to argue with light meter.
Thank you sir.

Thanks Mike for sharing your experience.... well explained.... cheers from Australia 😀
Glad you enjoyed it Robert... MB
Thank you. I do need to use manual more often than I do.

@@MikeBrowne thank you Mike 📷
That was excellent Mike! Thanks so much for this video. Massive thumbs up from me.
Thanks George. Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏😊
Thanks Mike, for the past present and future. It makes a change getting the first thumbs up in (👍🏻) too! 🤗 (And the comment! 😁) Hehe!
Boom! 🙏😊
Good one Mike, a light bulb went off with your easy explanation. 😁
Glad it helped
Fantastic video Mike=Thank you!
Thanks Barry...
Thank u !
You're welcome ;-)
Mike, I don't need your course now🤪, you already explained everything here👌. Excellent, excellent.
Thanks - but yes you do... MB 😉
Mike, when you reduced exposure why did just iso change? When i use exposure comp on my camera only shutter or ap changes. Thanks

Same with printing photos, they try to even the exposure but for contrasty pictures they look boring.

In frame one you adjusted aperture and in frame 2 you adjusted ISO, how do you know what to choose in any given situation?
Thank you.

I think it's time to redo the Christmas light video from that street again👍
Not a bad idea @Woody Mallory. I'm running out of nearby locations...
Brilliant 👍
😊
good stuff Mike
🙏😊
My guess is that we will have smart cameras in the future. That will understand it's dark outside and should look dark.
You could well be correct. Be interesting to see how they do it... MB
This is why I shoot most of my pictures in manual. But in digital, you can cheat and check the results directly, on film, you need to know.
Good for you Kalle 😎
Mike is really Roger Whittaker, Incognito.
You should hear me sing though... 😆

"when the feet-o-feeter goes wrong..." you have to adjust the crinamual amplitude 😂😆
@@MikeBrowne the criminal what? 🤪🤣😂🤣 you do not mean ampere? Where would that button or dial be? 🤔🤔🤪🤣😂🤣😂
