I do believe Jesus was crucified on the hill behind the bus station and buried in the garden. The problem I have with the via del rosa is the 1st century streets are so much lower. Thank you so much for looking at possible alternate ways Jesus may have gone. Peace and love to you and Jerusalem. 🕊❤🙏

    Interesting to consider. We do read that Jesus was taken back and forth between Pilate and Herod, so who knows that this is one of the places back and forth that was dealt with. It is quite possible that both this and the more traditionally held spot are both correct. I would state though that the New Testament does not present Pilate as a easy going, weak man; it presents him as the victim of circumstance and some greater Power at work in all of this. The worst person in the world does have a conscience at times ;) Anyway though fascinating video and thank you so much.

    I’m also feeling He didn’t exist to spread ‘Christianity’ as we know it! He didn’t even portray Himself as a personality cult! Only His Word sustains us and enlivens! I am awed again and again! 🙏

    I've heard that the tomb in the garden of gethsemane is possibly also an unused tomb dating back to the time of king David possibly owned by a family member that wasn't used and Jesus being decended from king david it would be a fitting tomb for his burial and resurrection.

      The "place of the judgment by Pilate" WASN'T called "Gaffta"; it was called "GABBATHA"!
      And the gate in the western wall was the "Gate of the ESSENES"; NOT the "Easies"!!
      And the Essene Gate was at the present "Jaffa Gate" in the NW sector of the city, referred to at the time as "Bethzatha" or "Bethzada".
      And it ISN'T the "Via Delarosa"! Ms. Delarosa is the name of my apartment building manager!! ☹
      THIS INcompetence in relating historical info is ONE reason WHY History gets CORRUPTED into confusion and ignorance of the past!! 😵😵‍💫

    In my opinion, this alternative to the classic Via Dolorosa, is more probable since it starts from the place where Jesus was condemned, plus it is a shorter path. But then, who established that today's Via Crucis would pass right there? Thanks Zahi for this video that offers us a new interpretation.

    The "palace of ALL the rulers and kings of Israel" (Judah) was on the site of the so-called Antoneion fortress, which Herod Antipater rebuilt. In "Old Testament" times it was referred to by the Jews as the "Birah" in Hebrew (meaning "well", because there was a water cistern in the foundation of it) and in Greek as the "Byrsa" or "sac" because it occupied only the NW half of the Temple court wall and narrowed from east to west. Herod kept the same outline but redesigned MUCH MORE magnificently than either the earlier Hebrews, Persians, or Hasmonean kings had done. Whether this was the site of the original "Jebusite" kings' palace is debatable.

    • @richarddemuth7077
      @richarddemuth7077 Год назад

      Notice the peculiar architectural feature in the scene outside the wall where he's 👉 towards the rock-hewn tombs. In the background is a large mass of rock INTO which a stone block masonry square is built!! This would SEEM to be geologically impossible, BUT, it IS explicable. The masonry was built to FILL IN a GAP in the rock which would have been like a deeply curved "indentation". But the effect gives the weird appearance that the masonry is somehow a PART OF the rock mass. It would thus be obvious WHY the ancient builders did this: they didn't want to give attackers a temptation of a weak or deficient section of 🪨they could mine through and thereby tunnel into the city beneath the wall! YET they DIDN'T do the SAME for the DEEP indentation in the bottom of the equally large 🪨mass farther down!! 🤔

    • @richarddemuth7077
      @richarddemuth7077 Год назад

      NONE of this wall is "Herodian" because the style doesn't match that of his time and his builders would have built the blocks ONTO the smooth ledge faces obviously CARVED on the natural 🪨 formation to be used as a foundation for the 🧱! Notice also that where the LATER Judish tombs were hewn (PROBABLY during the third Judish anti-Roman revolt in the second Christian century known as the "Bar Kochba Rebellion when they temporarily RE-occupied the site and started REbuilding the city), the natural rock foundation had a smooth outward sloping surface. This would seem to have foolishly given attackers the capability to more easily scale the walls; BUT actually, it would have kept them FARTHER OUT FROM the wall to make them an EASIER 🎯 for shooting arrows and throwing spears down at!!
      Notice also during the walk the remnants of the Herodian Era wall blocks strewn in a line along the main sidewalk.

    • @richarddemuth7077
      @richarddemuth7077 Год назад

      OO😮ps!! Made a mistake. NOTICE that the section on the ground BETWEEN the two massive 🪨formations and extending BEYOND the second one into the mound and made of large, even white blocks IS Herodian! Apparently the Romans attacking the city in 70 AC didn't think this part worth tearing down. BUT there is also an enigma here: the section extending ABOVE AND ACROSS the two 🪨formations is SIMILAR but appears either shoddily constructed OR much MORE weathered than the lower section. IF it IS due to "weathering", it makes the wall MORE resemble the CRUDER "Nehemian" style of the Persian period; which it could NOT be since the OLDER construction would naturally of course be on the BOTTOM. It was preserved several courses back; indicating that EVEN the brutal Romans ADMIRED the architectural acumen that they could make use of for defense while stationed in the ruins of the city after the conquest.
      This video demonstrates the the DEFICIENCIES of archaeological interpretation however, such as judging CHRONOLOGY by architectural STYLES because the CRUDER upper section of masonry COULD BE of the Nehemian RECONSTRUCTION period in the Imperial Persian Era INSTEAD OF weathered Herodian Era blocks and which WERE REUSED in the Imperial Roman Era by Herod's builders!! There also appear to be "fresh" white Herodian Era blocks interspersed with the "older" looking type. THIS MIGHT indicate that it was wall REBUILT during the Bar Kochba Revolt Era, OR LATER. There also appears to be pre-Nehemian Era stonework to the right of the 🪨dating to the Judahite kingdom's Hezekiah reign when the city had enlarged and was walled to the west. THIS would then be a portion that the Babylonian attackers under King Nebuchadnezzar left standing. STRANGE that the city was NEVER extended to the EDGE of the western plateau overlooking the Gehinnom Valley. But it DID extend out to the rocky escarpment, which the current wall line DOESN'T do.
      What it comes down to with archaeology is the SAME as with History and Religion of historical context: UNless one WAS THERE at the time, they CAN NEVER KNOW for CERTAIN what ACTUALLY happened!🪨
      And THERE'S ANOTHER example!! The "stepped" 🪨formation in the wall is NOT the base of a "staircase"! Herod's builders LEFT the 🪨 IN the masonry built around AND over it and CARVED the LEDGE INTO IT as with the LARGE MONOLITHS in the Herodian Temple Mount Western Wall!! THIS is a SURE sign that the work of the wall section in this area is HERODIAN ERA. The slope at the left of it leads up to where a large tower would have been. What the archaeology indicates about this area is that there was a SHALLOW-stepped gateway situated between two "channeling" walls to NARROW the quantity of human bodies attacking the wall at this point where, in King Herod Antipater's time, it was the ONLY Western gate. It led to a passage BETWEEN TWO CITY WALLS and the SLOPE at the left side would have led UP to the base entrance of a defensive TOWER, which would have been the ONLY and GUARDED access INTO the city itself; which is ON HIGHER ground in this area and WOULD have HAD to have been reached by STAIRS (in the tower). Many scholars situate Herod "the Great's" palace estate as being along the inner side of this secondary, inner wall. But THAT does NOT make sense since the urbanization of the community would have ALREADY been there BEFORE Herod's time. And this was, and is STILL NOT, completely level ground; descending gradually towards the later Jaffa Gate. THAT is WHY the Crusader Knights Templards DID NOT build their castle there but instead on the flat ground NEXT TO and GUARDING the Jaffa Gate. Since the ancient Judish priest-historian Josephus did not mention that Herod ordered peoples' houses and other buildings torn down to confiscate their property and build his estate, I would place Herod's palace on the SOUTHERN edge of the western plateau; OUTSIDE the CURRENT and ANCIENT wall-line of the Persian Era city during the Nehemian reconstruction of it (just beyond the wall and gate shown in the video of the parking lot area (which USED TO BE a lush green grassy field before they paved it over!!) THAT'S the WAY to draw pilgrims and tourists to the "Holy City"; PAVE IT OVER and put down a PARKING LOT! 😜
      This double-wall (called a "casemate wall") passage area including tower and gates WERE and HAD to be Nehemian Era constructions; as the CRUDENESS of the masonry indicates. WHY would Herod have had walls REBUILT that HADN'T been destroyed since the Babylonian attack. AGAIN, though, there is ambiguous interpretation here: because the masonry AROUND and ABOVE the ledge-carved boulder IS Herodian style, thus indicating that Nehemiah had the OUTER wall constructed (with the shallow-step gateway) BUT NOT the INNER wall. He simply left the vertical side of the ELEVATION bare/UNwalled; apparently figuring it was not worth walling because it was either already rock, OR, it was a SLOPE down which a COUNTERATTACK could be mounted against invaders at the gate.
      You see pleeple, the study of History and Archeology is about UNDERSTANDING POOPLE!!

    • @richarddemuth7077
      @richarddemuth7077 Год назад

      The mini-staircase near the top of the slope is a MODERN CONSTRUCTION of the "archaeologists". They SHOULD NOT put things where there IS NO evidence they existed. Obviously though, the base of the tower WOULD have HAD a stone-paved floor. We DON'T know IF there was a tower to the right at the LOWER end of the passageway slope where the Seljuk Era tower is now.

    • @richarddemuth7077
      @richarddemuth7077 Год назад

      Notice looking down through the arrow slit hole at 25:01 we see two ancient stone carved wells. The stone appears to have been projections from the rock formation at the base of the wall. The nearest one has a triangular niche carved in it directly behind the well, around which side there is a narrow ledge extending apparently as a footing base for standing on while drawing water out of the wellhole. This ARTIFICIAL niche would have served as the "holding place" for the water jars/amphorae to stand in so they wouldn't fall over and spill; like the NATURAL niche at the edge of the semi-circular rock formation DIRECTLY behind the upper well.
