Descriptive is more on what, where, when, who questions or study...but if s researcher tends to include a hypothetical question like "Is there a relationship between the company's training program and employees work productivity? Then this make your study a Descriptive-Correlational research. so the determining factor to distinguish the type, kind or design of a study is actually on the way you formulate your questions.
