I remember Wonderboy's UFC debut against Dan Stittgen so clearly. My buddy and I were making small wagers on every fight, and he claimed no fighter with the nickname "Wonderboy" was worth his bet, so he put $20 on Stittgen. Little did he know, I had seen Thompson in the World Combat League (a promotion hosted by Chuck Norris), so I knew he was a sniper on the feet, and I took that bet without a second of hesitation. Easiest $20 I ever earned, haha. Thanks for the content, Mike! Big fan of your channel, and a huge Wonderboy fan in general.
Did Seth dirty.
😂 Seth chungus would be a fine heavy bag. If he'd stand still
That's the heart and soul of this channel. ;-)
So I read this already... I'm 15 seconds into the video... I read it as if it had a question mark at the end and immediately wanted to answer; "Yes, yes he did."...
Scorpion punch next? lol
I like how you genuinely appreciate what Wonder boy was saying clearly took it on board. Steve looks like such a nice bloke to hand you your arse on a plate. :)
Dunno why you calling him Steve is throwing me off so much

Been a year or two since I heard "LEG MUSCLE" 😅
lol where is it from?
@@JamesIanGilliam A video from maybe five years ago where he had a kung-foo guy on
3:45 sethsquatch.
you look 10 years younger Mike!
Dude, I'm so happy to see you two working together. Wonder Boy is 1 of my favorite fighters of all time. I love his style and his morals. I hope to see more from you and him, man.
This is why I love Mike.
He’s experienced in life, most definitely seen some ish as a former law enforcer, talk his talk, but can still be humble in learning new techniques.
Very similar to Jeff's double step low kick actually!
Now that you mention it it kinda is
Yeah similar concept kinda..😅
seeing Mike engage like this is maybe the best part of the video, reminds me of good times. Thanks for the great video Mike!!!
The Wonderboy in my Gym is 1-2 step off 2! We don't call it "the Wonderboy" but when my coach explained it to us, he said what Stephen Thompson does and showed us a video and explains it to us how he Wonderboy does it.
Youre not too old for a hat, but a reverse hat definitely. It reminds me of Steve Buschemy “Hello fellow teenagers” 😂
Such a wonderful video, I love the dynamic of Mike calling out the strategy and Wonderboy so graciously explaining it. It’s such creative Karate use I feel this is what makes Capoeira especially dangerous is how a good strike is setup but deceptive movement, so cool!
First thing first become flexible enough to throw kicks to the head
If ur fighting children i doubt it.
Blast from my past!
In the 1990s my instructor used to throw round kicks exactly like this. It was his own adaptation because he had really bad hip flexibility. He could never land it on me so I thought it was garbage, but the other students swore up and down if he hit me with it I'd be down. Guess they were right.
Mr. Thompson, that is simply a wonderful technique. Thank you good sir.
1:07 welcome back keemstar
Everyone Gangsta talking shit about Karate until you meets a Karate Master Like Wonderboy.
Yaaaaaa Icy is back POSTIIIIINNGGGGG
In my dojo. The “Wonderboy” is a shuffle in jab - outside step - cross - shuffle out.
Thanks for sharing!
Love how you keep breaking the kick down to every thought and movement.
Ive been doing the same thing but with a backkick, i use the rotation from the whiffed hook to turn my body and throw a backkick from the hind leg. Ive never thought to try a lead leg before, huh. Makes a lot of sense.
The "Wonderboy" I was taught and the "Wonderboy" I teach is the sneaky headkick off the hook. I call it the "Wonderboy" and sometimes "Flail Kick" for my inexperienced students.
Excellent
This is some KOF combo 😮
Works perfectly
ICEY MIKEY
I already know what the Whitaker is gonna be
Do tell
@@mikewright8255 1,2 rear roundhouse using the rotation of the 2
Amazing video guys thank you so much. GOATED.
That's a cool move. If you are short though it might not reach their head and even them depending on the distance.
Nice to see wonderboy getting an opportunity to play in the sandbox with icy mike after the pepper spray incident.
never too old for a hat my man, flat brim vs curved is the debate of the ages though...
Very quick and plenty of power.
Watching wonderboy switch from were having fun mode to I’m couching you mode was so satisfying
Mike, can you *please* do a reaction to/breakdown of the USDC Season 2 episodes? Would really love to see that!
1:13 no you’re not to old
*you're*
@@Poetria_Elysia thank you
*too*
Man I needed this vid. I legit was just in the gym an hr ago trying to do the same combo thinking about “ how the hell does he throw that kick”
Wonder boy does the Spider Man shield catch? That’s cool
that fake hook is so effective to set up kicks... Superfoot wallace used to do it for (wait for it) SIDEKICKS
Right trajectory of kick. Noted. Whip it in. Turn hip over
Cool video thanks.
For some reason, the way kick angles downward reminds me of the question mark kick.
You can pull the hat off, but you wanna tilt it up a bit
So high level
Oh wow its been a while since ive heard about Leg Mouscles
Sensei Mike :0)
Slick move, but the movement itself in the air makes me think of Stewart exclaiming, "look what I can do!"
My hip mobility is really bad, so this is the only way I'm able to consistently throw a head hight roundhouse-like kick. My back has to be almost facing the person. It does catch some people off guard though 🤷♂️
mike's bald head is a self defense flashbang.
Now we know the secret of his powers.
That was almost the title... but I'm saving it for another video
Mike is only 2 years older than WB that’s crazy
Not too old, rock that lid broski!
I love this setup, but unfortunately my mobility/flexibility isn't quite there yet to really get that whip "K.O" power to it.
Really sneaky stuff.
Teaching like Wonderboy's is how Blackie Chan learned to fight off RUclips.
Great fighter but also a great instructor
I think you can pull of the hat, but you gotta make sure the fit matches
people really understimate how fast some people are. Not that Mike is slow but compare him with wonderboy, the difference is insane.
Mike, you are younger than most people your age, but as soon as you ask "am I too old?" you immediately become "too old" 😅
Im commenting here because its most recent, and im new to your channel. But I was wondering if you saw the fairly recent video of the guy getting out of his car and approaching a truck with a gun. He hits the door a couple of times with it, then switched the gun to his off hand, and raises his primary hand. The person in the truck immediately shoots, as far as I see it, he had no reason to think the provocateur didnt still have the gun in his hand. Will you do a video on that shoot, curious what you see.
oooo this is spicyyyy
Big fact we got Thompson 1 and Thompson 2 😂
I just saw Stephen Wonderboy Thompson on a conflict Judgement Day while watching this RUclips video and apparently he’s got a fight coming up
Shaved Mike, at last. Looking do much younger and cleaner. Nice!
It's all about the children rock on
I know the saying “Those who can not do, teach” is never more BS than when I see Martial Arts competitors and practitioners teaching.
The wonderboy where I teach is that 1-2 big step back into the 2
Me and wonderboy go way back.
In what way? You have watched him in UFC or you know him personally?
@hard2hurt Hey Mike, looking for advice. I train 2-3 days a week, mostly for recreation and self defense, not competition. My gym does primarily BJJ, which I try to do at least once a week. They also teach some other stuff. My favorite is their judo class, which I do every week; sometimes I also do wresting and muy Thai class. Am I spreading myself too thin? Should I be doing just 1-2 styles instead of 3-4? Thanks.
Not too old at all. At 43, i feel like it looks badass. But when you turn 60, im going to get you a fighting cane with a sword in it.✌️
The later levels of Ecco The Dolphin scared me so much as a kid. 😂
Wait... what?!
@@hard2hurt Hahaha! Reply went to the wrong video!!! Hahaha! I can't fight, obviously. 🤣🤣🤣
Ecco scared me too
Nah man, you’re def not too old for a hat like that. As far as I can tell, Gen X are bringing their fashion with them into their older years and it seems like it works great.
wonderboy deservres a kick named after him!
Man, Mike is getting in really good shape... training for something specific?
You look younger when your beard is short I like it!
Your tuff, there just ain't enough of you. Lol..
As far as hats are concerned the flat bill hat is for 20 somethings after 25 you can't have a flat bill gotta put a curve on that thang
Ima do dis in my next amateur fight (and fail miserably)
What level of hip mobility would you say this requires? Looks like it's quite a bit above average …
If Mike can do it, so can you
Short beard makes you look so much younger. It's kinda crazy how much of a difference it makes.
Long beard looks better though, suits him and makes his wrinkles disappear
You are too old for that hat. You still very good with these engaging ads during your video. Still haven't skipped one.
I'm not arguing, because clearly it does work and Wonderboy knows more about kicking than I ever will...but it just looks so awkward to me. He gave a good explanation for that though on why it will hit hard even if it doesn't look like it.
Great stuff.
I think the 'awkwardness' is WHY it works. All his opponents think it would be really difficult for him to throw a hard shot from that position, and then they wake up.
@@theaikidoka Yeah, you're certainly right.
Such a weird strike. You're already lost momentum on the swing, but you reach with half leg. It's almost an acrobatic move than a strike 😄
It looks like the start of some epic tricking move lol
Jab cross step off cross.
There's a reason why at the Highest level nobody wants to do stand up with Wonderboy
That kick looks and kinda functions like the Brazilian kick.
What do you mean?
@@hard2hurti think he means like the second part of a question mark kick..but that's just for the kick itself, the whole setup has nothing to do with the brazilian kick.
@@hard2hurt i meant the wipe
That is some expert level psychological manipulation right there.
Short beard Mike looks 10 years younger
the hat? no, not about age. it's whether you fit the hat and if it fits the occasion.
Bruh why did you cut the vid off I wanted to know the "Whittaker"
I know it's prolly that 1 2 high kick but still..
Damn I thought Mike was like 10 years older
You've got seth in there and don't let him say something? That's criminal that is
Yes Mike, you’re too old. WAAAAAY too old!!!
But do what you want. Screw what anyone thinks!
Skateboard for self defense!!
To think Wonderboy is only 5' 9"
"DO THE WONDERBOY!!"
🤌🫵"YEEEAAAAAHHHSSS"🫵🫵🫵👏☠️💣☠️👏
Doing it up close seems like a good addition to your cockroach style
At 43, don't do the hat. Especially not backwards.
