Agree with everyone else. You were the most straightforward. Now I understand that a pdf has to screenshot and saved as a PNG or JPG to be saved as an SVG in Cricut. Still took me a long time to do the conversions for my pattern, but yours is the ONLY instruction that worked for me. Thank you so very much.
You are very welcome! Just one more thing, the pattern will not be a SVG file, just a Cricut cutting file.

I’m more into sewing that crafting but would like to learn ..Can I cut adult size patterns im new to this so trying to learn all I can on the design space
Anything you cut with the Cricut needs to fit on a cutting mat. The largest cutting mat would cut 11.5 x 23.5 so your pattern piece would need to fit inside those dimensions to cut with the Cricut.
Thx for the video, I am curious if there is a way to cut on the fold. I have tried it before where I folded my fabric and then cut my pattern out on top and it cut all the way around it. I would love to cut out patterns on the fold for things like front , back bodices.
If you haven't found a solution yet, this is what I do: While in design space, slice the pattern piece that you want to cut on the fold. (using the method Shawn showed in the video where she took out the 1" scale mark). Then duplicate the "on fold" piece, or whatever piece you want to be cut without a seam ("on the fold"). Then mirror the duplicated piece (to mirror, use the 'flip' tab in top menu bar). Then all you do is line up the two pieces with the pattern markings and then select "weld". This will make the two pieces one. Now you will have your piece cut without a seam aka "on fold". I hope that made sense and will help you. 😊
Thank you very helpful! Is there a way to also do the same if the pattern piece is bigger than one page on the pdf? I have some where the pieces stretch two pages because they’re so long.
The only thing I can think of is to upload both pieces, put them into the same project, and join the pieces (weld). I see no reason why this wouldn't work, you can insert more than one image into a project. Just do all the steps as described in the video, match pieces, weld.
Thank you for this video. I keep getting a message " incompatible, cannot be sent to mat, adjust your layers". Any suggestions?
That could mean that the size of your pattern piece is too large to fit on one mat. You could slice it into sections to cut out and then tape those sections back together like a Larger than Mat project. I go over that here www.shawnmosch.com/extra-large-images-cricut/
how did you pattern go from a line drawing to a solid black? I keep following your instructions but it stays as a line drawing not solid black ?
When I upload it and remove the background I then saved it as a Cut image.
So I have a pdf pattern but it doesn't have that one inch mark on the pattern, how would I know how to keep it in proportion?
Could you measure a portion of the pattern and then after you import the image you could scale the entire pattern so that portion you measured matches the measurement you took
You make this look so easy Shawn - in order to get to the snipping tool on a laptop do you have an extra part of Adobe Reader that you pay for please? I cannot seem to edit any pages in a pdf file without purchasing some additional software which looks as if it costs £15 per month? I am a little technology-challenged so hope this isn't a stupid question.
The snipping tool is a Windows thing. If you have a Mac, google how to take a screen shot on a Mac . . . it will get you the same results as using the snipping tool

Can you move the pieces closer together in order to save fabric?
You could probably use slice in Design Space to change their arrangement around.
You should be able to ungroup and then move where you want. If not, make copies, slice out on image from each one until you have the three pieces as shown, then move. I believe contour would also work for this.
I have a question. You have a piece that is supposed to be cut on the fold, do you double the fabric?
Typically when you purchase fabric it is folded over (doubled) so yes, double the fabric over and line up the pattern piece on the fold line

What program is your snipping tool in?
It is called snipping tool. The icon looks like a pair of scissors. If you are on a Mac it is a screen shot . . . Command+Shift+4
How do you make the Cricut cut on the cut lines and draw in the seam allowance lines?
You could add a score line from the shapes button, and change it to a drawn line and place those where the seam allowance lines are.
@@TheShawnMosch I have been trying to find this answer for a long time. I have tried the score line, but unfortunately the score line cannot be manipulated into a curved line. So i'm very confused how to create my own patterns for design space. I work on dolls clothes and I'm thinking this program/ machine isn't ideal for this kind of work.
@@colourtothebone You are right . . . in Design Space there is no way to make your own curved line. The best option I could give you is to draw up your pattern in another program and then upload that drawing to Design Space in order to cut it.
@@TheShawnMosch that’s eventually what I did. I use illustrator to do this. Unfortunately it ends up being a very basic interpretation of the pattern. I can’t use the drawing feature like I had hoped. My patterns require precise seam/hem lines. Unfortunately cricut isn’t as detailed for this kind of thing. I don’t think they should promote it as a feature when it’s this difficult.
@@colourtothebone I wish I worked more closely with Cricut so that I could provide them with that feedback. The only thing I can do is send a feedback email, just like any other Cricut users.
What if the size is 2cm or 3cm. How do you size.
If the scale square/guide is 2 or 3 cm, then I would adjust your image the same in Design Space. You can go into Settings to switch between having it be in inches to centimeters
Umm so how do you do this if there are multiple sizes on each piece and there are more than 1 piece to join together???
you would have to repeat this same process over for each size
Can this be done on the explore air 2
Yes, it can. It can be done with any of the Cricut machines that use Cricut Design Space.
You can't cut fabric on Explore Air 2 can you? Also what file format was uploaded to Design Space please?
@@osewhoopy9253 I was just gifted an Explore Air 2 and from what I understand you can cut fabric using it as long as it's a lightweight fabric and it is bonded. There are videos on RUclips showing how to bond it either using fusible interfacing or removable freezer paper so that the Explore Air 2 will cut it.
Ok but most sewing patterns have you cut on the fold, so how do you remedy that?
That is the one challege I have not been able to figure out, since you would have to double up the fabric on the Cricut cutting mat and that would make cutting it harder. The best you could do is duplicate that piece that needs to be on the fold and then join the two pieces together so you can cut it as one piece.
I have been trying for the last few days to upload a Dresden Plate quilt pattern to Design Space an can't get it figured out. HELP!!!!!
what file format is the pattern?

@@patsyglover67 unfortunately Design Space does not support PDF files, which is why I made this video to show how to make a screen shot of the PDF, and save that screen shot as a png/jpg file so you can upload that.
Would you please do a purse pattern? Then I will buy a machine.
The process is the same for any pattern that is in a PDF form. The actual pattern you would be cutting out does not matter.
I have tried doing this but it doesnt work. Once uploaded and adjusted to suit the test square, that pattern isnt the right size.
hmm . . . that is odd. I know that a lot of other people have used this and it has worked for them in the past.
