The call for prayer, Adhan, never stops. Its continue 24/7 in the entire world. Because of time diffrence. When it end somewhere it starts somewhere else. And with this it never gets silence. Each minute somewhere in the world the call for prayer is song

I'm not a religious person, but each time I've visited Istanbul and I hear the call to prayer like this; mingling with calls from other mosques and and echoing through the Bosphorus, I get genuine chills. So haunting and so beautiful.

    Adhan’s meaning in English
    Allahu Akbar
    God is Great
    (said four times)
Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah
I bear witness that there is no god except the One God.
    (said two times)
    Ashadu anna Muhammadan Rasool Allah
I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of God.
    (said two times)
    Hayya ‘ala-s-Salah
Hurry to the prayer (Rise up for prayer)
    (said two times)
    Hayya ‘ala-l-Falah
Hurry to success (Rise up for Salvation)
    (said two times)
    Allahu Akbar
    God is Great
    [said two times]
    La ilaha illa Allah
There is no god except the One God
For the pre-dawn (fajr) prayer, the following phrase is inserted after the fifth part above, towards the end:
    As-salatu Khayrun Minan-nawm
    Prayer is better than sleep
    (said two times)

Like something out of Cecil B. DeMille's Samson and Delilah. From 1949. When the Philistine Delilah, agonizing over her betrayal of Samson, whom she loves, rises from her sleepless bed in Gaza as the dawn is breaking and looks out upon the city from the palace of the Saran. And she hears the call of the watchman at that hour... .

The Catholic church's fault. They sacked the city in 1200, then refused Constantine's plea for help when Mehmed II attacked. They almost held an army of 40 000 with only 7000 men. If they had had support from the Vatican or the Genovese in Galata the city would not have been sacked. If had lasted until the early modern period, with the advances in technology in Europe, it would have been very difficult for the Ottoman's to have taken it.
Fair play to the Muslims though - they wanted it more.
