There are 6 species of quolls, sometimes called the native cat, in Australia and New Guinea. They can be found in woodlands and rainforests with their white spotted coats that serve as camouflage. Quolls are solitary marsupials with powerful jaws, sharp teeth, and bushy tails. They have black or brown coats, pink noses, and long, pointed snouts. During the day they sleep in nests in underground caves, burrows, or fallen logs. At night, they venture out to stalk prey with their keen senses of smell and hearing. Their agility and skills help them navigate through dense vegetation and climb trees to find food. Their diet consists of fruit, nuts, reptiles, mammals, birds, insects, and carrion.
Mating season occurs annually, with females giving birth to a litter of 4 to 5 joeys. The pups suckle milk in their mother's pouch for 6-8 weeks, then are raised in a den where they remain until they become independent at around six months. The shy quolls are excellent predators and can survive where others can’t through their wits, reflexes, and fearless attitude. When you need to think and act quickly, call on the spirit of the quoll. Almost reminds me of a ferret. But the designs and build is more intriguing.
