The colugo, sometimes referred to as the flying lemur, lives in the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia. With small heads and large eyes, they have exceptional vision. Solitary by nature, colugos glide through the forest canopy, propelled by a thin sheet of skin stretching from their necks to the tips of their fingers and toes. With wingspans of up to 2 feet, they can travel long distances gracefully, skillfully controlling their speed and destination through limb adjustments. Hunting alone at night, the shy colugo travels the treetops, smoothly gliding and foraging for food between perches. The mothers give birth to a single pup after a 60-day gestation period. They dedicate themselves to the caring and nurturing of their young through their first six months of life.
The adaptable colugo sustains itself on a diet of leaves, fruits, and flowers, conserving their energy during the daylight hours by resting. Their intuitive nature enables them to evade predators and survive in diverse environments. The unique colugo is a symbol of agility, resourcefulness, and wisdom.
