    Quick, excessively dispiriting Short I had prepared for existential horror month whilst working on bigger things.
    I've already begun work on EP30 which is good and I also have a Special on the way.
    That's it, going to keep working now, being very unceremonious, much like this very video.

    The part at the Slaughterhouse.
    The Civilians nodded at the Astartes which then screams: "ACTIVE EXPLOSIVES! GIVE US A QUICK DEATH!"
    The Civilians are just as sad as the Lamenters which is even more sad because the Lamenters tried to help them..

    • @__mindflayer__
      @__mindflayer__ Год назад +200

      The fact it’s actually lore about the Slaughter makes it so depressing. The civilians asked for them to blow them up and since it would be better to die than the be enslaved again by the Orks. The Lamenters pleaded to give them a chance at saving them, then after that the Lamenters started to see the situation as helpless and eventually they took on the idea of the civilians. They could’ve of left and bombed the civilians but instead they decided to die with them. The Lamenters are the heroes of the 40k universe idc what anyone says.

      what a curse they fail on the quick death

    • @Rogerv1032
      @Rogerv1032 10 месяцев назад +57

      So the story of it is sadder. Essentially the humans were slaves to the Orks. The Lamenters then went on a mission to rescue all the humans but after defeating the Orks, they realized their ships didn't have enough capacity to shuttle all the humans. So the humans, who were honestly chads, said something along the lines of "You know what, you've done so much for us, leave us behind, it matters more that you leave". At first the Lamenters were against it, but like most things, the Orks kept on coming and so decided to place explosives in the mines of slaughterhouse and evacuate as many civilians as they could, which was only about 15% of the slaves the Orks had. Eventually blowing the planet up.

    • @CataStudies
      @CataStudies 8 месяцев назад +49

      @@Rogerv1032 And the reason they did not have enough space in the ships is because nobody expected the lamenters to manage to successfully invade an entire planet full of orcs and free most of the slaves. It was seen as a suicide mission of little importance by other Astartes chapters nearby who had already given up on saving the civilians.

    Truly Cursed.

    • @lolroflroflcakes
      @lolroflroflcakes 3 года назад +550

      To be fair the drive is an array of star's trapped in some flimsy magnetic bottles. If you don't understand exactly what you are doing and why you are doing it the consequences are pretty dire: one blip, there is a blinding flash and now your just a cloud of rapidly expanding plasma. I'd be willing to bet the Imperium loses many ships, non-lamenter astartes included, to random preventable drive failures each year given the Admech is basically just a bunch of half trained monkeys.

    This isn't depressing. No no. This shows exactly why the Lamenters are the most heroic, most human of the Space Marine Chapters. Everything thrown at them, brothers betraying them, Tyranid's nomming them, penitent crusades, general hatred against them, and instead of betraying the Emperor or letting themselves get wiped out, they continue to fight against the Emperor's foes and save everyone they can. They can get wiped out to 100 marines, and they'll just rebuild so they can save one more person, over and over and over again. The Lamenters lives are full of hardship and despair, but that's exactly what makes them Heroes: Because despite this, they *will never stop helping people*
    Also at least in canon the Lamenters survived and got Primaris reinforcements, small miracles.

It was actually the freed slaves that requested that the planet be exploded and they be given a quick death, since they knew that the Lamenters couldn't get them all off and they wanted to thank them for what they did- and deny the Orks the world. The Lamenters did manage to transport humans off world before the charges were detonated, but not many. The Lamenters were actually offered an Iron Halo for their feat, since it was a huge blow to the Orks, but due to the number of civilian deaths, they refused that honour, leading to more disdain in the eyes of other chapters. Comment by TheRiolumon, 5 months ago on Lamenters by StringStorm
      Emperor: So who are these Lamenters I keep hearing about?
      Kitten: Oh the Lamenters? They are a chapter who are descended from the Blood Angels.
      Emperor: From my sweet boy Senguiny.
      Kitten: Y-yes. They are a bit of a.... well they are not exactly a very loved chapter. Rumors circulated around them have gone so out of hand it’s damaged their reputation among the other chapters. They believe they are cursed because they have had what you would call in your words my lord “extreme shit luck”. They have been decimated time and time again. It’s a miracle they even survived for so long.
      Emperor: I don’t want any of that double standard bs from my other children who literally throw their own ships at their enemies just to get that kamikaze kill. Had turn on eye camera film while banana head was speaking looking at them right now and they just look like total lemon boys. Though seeing as their names are “Lemon-tors” makes sense.
      Kitten: Yeah but here is the thing my lord. Despite the rumors of them being cursed they are one of the most kindest chapters in the imperium second only to the salamanders. They have been known to fly to isolated civilian colonies and fight till their dying breath that every civilian is evacuated from the xeno invaders.
      Emperor: so the lemon boys are trying to make up for the rumors with their actions. Unsurprising. But not unappreciated.
      Kitten: I agree my lord. There was one battle where they were left alone by another chapter called the “Mortifactors” during the 9th black crusade on corellia. Claiming that they don’t want to be anywhere near these “cursed” individuals.
      Emperor: I’m gonna put a pin in that chapter topic for now and just say that sounds like a really fucking edgy chapter. Also. I understand that if the space marines value their life as I do not wish for any of them to die recklessly for me, Except maybe those fucking smurfs. But leaving another chapter of brothers alone to fight a whole crusade by themselves over some fucking bad luck is just fucking despicably cowardly. So what happened to the lemon boys?
      Kitten: They fought like it was their last battle, making sure every civilian was safe. It was said that for every marine that died. A family was saved or an orphan, and 10 demons died with the said killed marine. It wasn’t until the white scars and the ultramarines came to save the day turning the tide.
      Emperor: Because the only way to win a losing battle is to use cheats like the fucking smurfs do.
      Kitten: After the battle only a hundred of the Lamenters were left, their entire chapter was there and they were devastated by the ensuing battle. They were soon to be called the “yellow pawns” as a reference to their check board on their shoulder pads and them of course being colored yellow.
      Emperor: I gotta say them some ballsy pawns for fighting off those chaos spawns and heretics.
      Kitten: Though after the battle they left the planet, but soon ended up being in a warp drift on their way home and didn’t appear till thousands of years later. Not only did they survive the warp fighting their whole way back tooth and nail. but they still had enough marines to rebuild their chapter to full strength.
      Emperor: It’s as if these lemon boys are like the polar opposites of the smurfs. Instead of winning every battle without any casualties these marines nearly lose every battle with high as fuck casualties. Still I can not deny that they do a very good job at what they do and should say I am very proud of them trying so hard to prove them selves. Still I think they should be cut a break now. Because the way they literally sacrifice themselves for the imperium every battle is just fucking depressing. I want you to message their chapter master and tell them to recall all lemon boys. And instead have these Mortifuckers start doing their jobs till the lemon boys have proper time to rest and boost their stats and maybe even have some peace and quiet. See how they like it when being put on “baby protect and/or be killed” duty. And if any of them think of disobeying they will not only be threatened as a traitor of the whole of imperium but there' entire chapter will be excluded. I do not fucking care what they do before. They need to be punished for not only abandoning the people of me, but also being total pussies and leaving their own brothers to defend themselves.
      Kitten: eerhmm my lord is that wise?
      Emperor: I’m the mother fucking emperor. I have the will and authority. Besides, anyone who bullies my favorite son’s kids needs a royal spanking, and if the parents won’t do it then I fucking will.
      Kitten: as you wish my lord.
      Emperor: So, what happened after they came back from the warp?
      Kitten: Oh boy. nervous

      It's one of the cooler bits of Badab War fluff for sure. They participated in an Imperial crusade together with several other notable Chapters, including the Ultramarines themselves, and volunteered to raid an important production-planet in the Ork empire they were wrecking (in order to pre-empt a WAAAGH!). Calgar said they wouldn't get any support since it was so far behind enemy lines, they said OK and went on ahead. Bing bang boom, typical marine stuff went down, and then they found themselves faced with a real dilemma.
      Ork reinforcements were pouring in, and the planet they were on had tons of slave labourers on it. They ended up fighting of multiple waves of Ork counter-attackers both in space and on the ground, before being asked to leave by the remaining un-evacuated slaves who didn't want the Lamenters to get wiped out for their sake. So the survivours fought their way free, detonating the mines and killing those left behind. On limping back to the main crusade forces, Calgar was mightily impressed by their heroism and wanted to give them an iron halo in an elaborate ceremony - not just a rare piece of wargear, but an incredible honour to receive one of the highest merits from one of the highest-ranked people in the Imperium. The Lamenters declined the honour (near unprecedented as declining it was), because they felt they hadn't earned it nor lived up to their own ideals.
      Predictably, this earned them even more critics and even more suspicion, as people in the crusade and well beyond interpreted it as an open insult to Calgar - made even more insulting considering the exalted status of the Ultramarines and the low status of the Lamenters (a Cursed Founding Chapter who only participated in the crusade because the Ultramarines had saved them at Corillia 2000 years earlier).

    So here's a quick contextual synopsis for each little scene:
    1) During the 9th Black Crusade, they came to the defense of Corillia, but the other chapter stationed there, the Mortifactors, were deeply superstitious and just kinda... abandoned them. The Lamenters took devastating casualties and were reduced to a force ~200 strong until finally relieved by Ultramarine and White Scars reinforcements.
    2) On their way back from Corillia they got caught in a warp storm and _had to fight their way out of the Warp._
    3.1) 300 Marines liberated the planet Slaughterhouse III from the Orks and were evacuating 3 million slaves, but a reinforcement fleet of Orks came and they didn't have enough resources or time to save most of them. The Lamenters planned on fighting to the last to save the planet's people, but at the behest of the liberated population, the Lamenters instead detonated subterranean seismic charges to deny the Orks the planet, its resources, and the labor force inhabiting it. This depressed the Chapter so severely they turned down an Iron Halo from Marneus Calgar, because they felt like they had lost the fight for Slaughterhouse III. Which a lot of Imperium factions misunderstood as some sort of snub against Calgar, so they became even more hated than they already were by merit of being part of the Cursed Founding.
    4) While escorting a Rogue Trader, their ship just randomly suffered a drive failure that scuttled it and the crash killed most of the marines on that mission. Most of the survivors were press-ganged into the Deathwatch, and the rest could only serve in some auxiliary capacity alongside other chapters.
    5) During the Badab War, they sided with the Astral Claws, who were their honor-bound brethren, and _believed_ they were fighting for the autonomy of the Adeptus Astartes from the greater Imperium (what really was happening was that the Astral Claws were corrupted by Chaos. You might now know them as the Red Corsairs). They largely kept to themselves, being generally unwilling to wage full-scale war against fellow Imperium forces. The Minotaurs had no such compunctions, scuttled the Lamenters' chapter barge, and after a grueling 17 hour siege, defeated the Lamenters through brutality and numbers, and looted the shit out of the Lamenter's wargear. Maybe 300 Lamenters survived to the end of the Badab War.
    6) Because their involvement in the civil war was a misunderstanding and they surrendered upon learning what happened to the Astral Claws, the Lamenters actually were pardoned. So instead of the chapter being dissolved and the marines all put to death, they would be forced to go on a 100 year penitent crusade. During which they would not be allowed to recruit more Marines. Remember that they are at

    - Be abandoned by your brothers in a cruxial moment during an invation
    - Get lost in space for random chance, and fight the equivalent of chaos when Heaven and Hell collide for a century
    - Go back to reality, just to contage yourself with the equivalent of Corona, The Black Death, and Vampirism, so you nuke yourself to save your entire people, if not the entire galaxy
    - Survive so when you are recovering in your ship, the mainframe gets fucked and self destroys itself in Emperor knows where
    - Land in a planet, have most of your body replaced by machinery, and make a last stand to protect the empire's will, just to get your balls kicked and get mauled into unconciousness (by your own people, no less)
    - Recover it so the High Lords legally decree you as cursed, and be forced to either fight for another century or get a bolt to the head, so you accept because you love your people and wish to protect them
    - And finally get eaten by a oversized bug who leaves you limbless, your armor pierced, and bleeding
    The sad part is the very same Marine who suffers all this is the same from the beginning to the end. The only worst thing I can imagine is that he is the one who is forced to rebuild the chapter over and over and over and over again.

      @@Commodore22345 I understand what you are saying, but you have to see where they are coming from their own point of view. They are super humans created by the God Emperor to be physically and mentally superior to your standard human. To be under the command of simple fallible human would be a slap in the face for a fair few of them. As far as they are concerned only the Emperor or their progenitor Primarch would have the right to command them to do anything.
      Also, again, it was by will of the Emperor that Astartes be separate from the other military forces. It's why the Astra Militarum and the Adeptus Astartes are separate entities.
      And last of all, chapters do listen to the Munitorum a lot of the time. Who do you think placed the Lamenters at the Malestrom in the first place? The Lamenters would have definitely preferred to hang out at the fringes of the galaxy where there were no Tyranids, Orks or Chaos in the first place. It's mostly the First Founding chapters that have this attitude of request not demand in the first place as well... or chapters with an ego as great as the Founding chapters in the firs place.

    The Lamenters still exist - some apparently survived their ordeal with Hive Fleet Kraken by some bloody *miracle.* The Chapter was later reinforced by a batch of Primaris, who would have looked up to the survivors as veterans and commanding officers. I somehow doubt that they'll get further referenced in the lore so that's as close to a "good ending" for those guys as we are going to get. Certainly by the standards of chapters derived from Blood Angel stock, their care and compassion for the common folk of the imperium is unrivaled. Naturally, they are probably tied in the empathy department with the Salamanders and some of their successor chapters.

But as I said they are true sons of Sanguineous, they fight, they fall, they get beaten down, but the NEVER lose hope. This lets them rise again and again.

    2:36; The emperor’s sorrow is especially potent given that they’re Sanguinius’s gene-sons. In TTS at least its consistently shown that because of his sacrifice Sanguinius is the emperor’s most beloved, or at least most missed, son. I think TTS Emps loves all his sons (except for FUCKING HORUS...and that with good reason) in some capacity...there was an entire absence of an episode about it. But its easiest for him to express his love and attachment and particularly mourning for Sanguinius because of how he died. “A father should not outlive their children.” So seeing that a group of Sanguinius’s gene-sons has been shafted so hard, half by fate (FUCK YOU TZEENTCH) and half by the Imperium itself is just an incontrovertible measure of misery for him. That it all started with pointless superstition, something Big E has a particular disdain for only compounds the factor (to clarify, had other chapters not treated them like shit so often because they were “cursed”, they might not have ended accidentally latching on to the wrong side in the Badab War and thus screwed over by the Minotaurs and put on a penitent crusade). Its just everything about the Lamenters is just everything he hated about old believes affecting his Imperium coupled with the fucking Chaos Gods to fuck over some of his favorite son’s sons.
    In related news, I’d say Emperor help the Inquisition (he won’t) if Dorn hear’s a word about what happened to the Celestial Lions, but the Inquisition’s already been blasted to kingdom come. On the other hand, the Officio Assassinorum has no such defense, and they did let themselves be tools of the inquisition. So...anyone have the foam to watch Dorn go apeshit?

    The Lamenters, i believe, are the epitomy of the loyal Chapters.
    Look at how much shit they've gone through, how many of their prayers go unanswered. Yet they stand firm in their loyalty to the Imperium.
    No matter how many times they've been nearly wiped out, no matter how many times the universe conspires against them, they stand for their beliefs, and they stand for the Imperium.
    So many others have turned to Chaos for far less than the Lamenters have suffered. But they remain loyal.

Corbec and Bob the Ogryn, well, or at least Dante saw him giving him a cheers up to keep going after fighting to near-death against the Swarmlord at the end of the Devastation of Baal. 40k is such an unfair universe even BL authors feel like they need to give their good characters something better than "and his soul dissipated into oblivion in the warp" or "got his soul eternally tortured by daemons".
      Interestingly Age of Sigmar also give hints on this matter, firs off yes, it appears thanks to some new fluff it's connected through the warp to 40k, again, and then there have been a few stories where Nagash, the God of Death and some other characters reveal there are people who are truly and definitely dead to the point not even the gods can resurrect them, not fallen into oblivion but gone to an unreachable place, what is this place, well, maybe is the Retconian, or maybe something else, who knows?
