Wow mate lovely fishing ! I fished the disappearing road years back when the forest was there. Great spot. Brought back some lovely memories thank you.
Hi David! Yeah, I'm a convert to the still water but still prefer the wee rivers in North Wales (and I'm Irish!). The thrill of the take from these big rainbow is hard to explain to non-fisher people and fighting them in on a full-flex glass rod is another added challenge. I only fish dries; it's just my preference and the 'Disappearing Road' is a go-to spot for me although the waters were up last time I went to Brenig and the road had indeed disappeared completely.
Cheers, Rob! I mentioned previously that I'm a recent convert to still waters but refuse (through my own choice and preference) to fish sub-surface. I just love fishing dries and have no interest in anything else. But this isn't to belittle anyone fishing blobs & eggs, streamers nymphs and wets, of course... just my way. Brenig is a great location and to see a 4lb rainbow sip a CDC emerger or even smash at a Daddy is heart-stoppingly exciting... taking five or more minutes to guide it in on a full-flex glass rod and 4lb tippet is another challenge.
My dad and i had a good day on the boat somewhere round where your stood quite a few years ago, that was until the bank fishers saw what we were getting and started appearing, we had to give up then.
I went in a boat once and never again, David! I hated it... felt very restricted, to be honest. I much prefer the bank. I'f hat takes literally 15ft out. 👍🎣
@@eoincampbell-flyfishermana4737 funny old world, i dislike the bank and prefer the boat! Even in RAF competitions i much preferred it. Looking at getting back into fly fishing after a 16 year lay off, finding it quite daunting, technology has changed and so has kit, still have my old lines, cleaned and checked today, not sure if they need changing, but first casting lessons.
@@davidhumphreys7035 I get that totally, David. I had a gap of 35 years out from my teens in the '70s when graphite was only starting to come out. Curiously, I've now got a newer glass rod which is my go to. Very light, not like the older ones. Full flex... beautiful, but different action all together.
