    A few weeks ago, we had some of the mamahs try Indian food! Today, we had them try some famous Indian desserts! The moms tried gulab jamun, which are sweet deep fried milk dough balls drenched in rose water syrup. Gajar halwa is often referred to as carrot pudding and topped with raisins. A popular sweet treat, jalebi, is a sticky and crunchy deep fried snack. Similar to Mexican arroz con leche, kheer is a a tasty milk and rice pudding. Rasmalai is another Indian classic. It's flattened cheese patties served in a sweet milk sauce. Mango kulfi is a tasty mango ice cream dessert. Kaju barfi is a sweet Mazapan like treat made with cashews. Boondi laddu is a deep friend pastry enjoyed by many Indians!

    • @Viskydude
      @Viskydude 9 месяцев назад +5

      It's super easy to make. You grate carrots. Then heat the milk, slowly put in the grated carrots, sugar, crushed cardamom and butter (unsalted). Heat gently, while mixing , till you get to the texture /thickness you prefer ! Just add some chopped toasted nuts. Tadaaa!
      PS : You may create your own variations. Try adding cinnamon powder. Or a couple of cloves.

    • @LindaC616
      @LindaC616 9 месяцев назад

      @Viskydude The recipe I had said to add honey, but at the end. Just to boil the carrots with the milk, and then add butter, honey, and cinnamon or cardamom at the end. Interesting!

    • @Viskydude
      @Viskydude 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@LindaC616 The most basic one is just grated carrots, sugar, milk, and butter (or ghee).
      And then there are variations according to the individual.
      Also, the carrots themselves should be naturally SWEET ones.

One reason I love these videos is because these mamahs give honest and detailed responses and reviews of foods that are foreign to me as a Canadian. First of all, I love their honest reviews. But eating indian sweets one after another is not recommended. One type of sweet at a particular time is what makes each of them stand out, otherwise they all have contradicting textures and flavours.
    Btw the women when they said the halwa feels more pumpkin than carrots, well they may be right because a lot of these packaged ones use pumpkins instead of carrots. Real carrots halwa will be dark red or dark orange in color and taste not that sweet.

    The dishes are too sweet because they aren't local or homemade. I wish they could have the real ones.
