At the same time I’ve never met a successful contractor who cared about RUclips , podcast, office image Like Google ad words will get you the most bang for your buck Why spend so much energy on content creating unless your goal is to be full time content creator
I honestly don't watch or listen podcasts. I want to see the work. I want to see the buildings. And I like learning things about Detroit. But not sitting at a desk. But if it makes you happy to do a podcast, have fun.
Man i said it from the first video i seen tou guy's we're going to blow up like no other your attitudes mind set and ambition are what sets you guys apart from the rest hoping to run into you guys one day
This was very interesting Nick, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I think RUclips and IG and other social media that you post too works good for you guys. I'm glad I found this channel and I am also happy to see your construction part of your business growing as well.
We’ve never advertised before so we’re working our way into it. So far RUclips has been more than enough but eventually to continue scaling we’ll need to do real marketing and advertising I think
Constructive criticism! (Sorry for the pun) - As someone who produces a podcast as our full time thing not only does it not pop off after one (or ten) episodes, it needs to be audio first. Podcasts as a RUclips marketing tool are about creating good clips; we have way more listeners on podcast apps than on YT, and even a studio in the city proper. If you still want to think about podcasts, guesting on others shows is probably the way for you to go for awhile, and maybe (maybe!) try again when you have a clear value prop or maybe a series in mind. Everybody has stuff they're better at than others. And you're right, focus matters. You're doing a project around the corner from my place, thanks for shining up the neighborhood.
I agree, I’ve gone on 2 other podcasts so far (yet to be released) and we did put it on Spotify and Apple music or whatever apples equivalent is, it also flopped. Which was fine, we have a lot of other irons in the fire! But I’m glad we’re fixing up your street too!
It'd be cool if you guys did a "What's the market like in _____" series. Where you either travel to a place and explain what your job would be like if you tried to do it there. Or just do a bunch of research and talk about what'd it'd be like in more of a presentation style format, if traveling is too expensive. Could do a "What's the market like in Denver?" "What's the market like in Houston?" Etc.
Having realistic timelines matters too. Some podcasts take months or several years to ramp up an audience. That said, there's already several million too many in existence.
I'm in Malaysia and totally unlikely to be a Sanborn Construction client. But I like to watch your videos because I learn a lot of useful things. Podcast... I don't know. The only channel I listen regularly to is Steve Gibson's "Security Now".
Focus on the Business side and make the videos as side hustle. You have the best Marketing Tool in the world. It's called Detroit. My wife is from the Philippines, and she asked where I was from when we first started dating i said Michigan USA, she was clueless to that place. I said Detroit and she smiled and said "Riot Town" from the Philippines. Incorporate all your video content Metro Detroit and it will sell itself on line.
We get plenty of business from our social media, so it’s definitely working, especially since we’re in a city most run from. We’re going to keep focusing on that content
@@SanbornConstructionGroup I disagree. I am a subscriber, and typically I don't listen/watch podcasts on the same schedule as a RUclips video. Podcasts are nice when I'm doing chores and just want something in the background to listen to. Many listen to podcasts during a commute, or at the gym. 200 for something very few knew existed is not as bad as you think. That number would certainly keep growing as word gets out, and people find the podcast through various means. You can't expect your typical subscriber to be as engaged to the podcast as they are your videos. You have to earn a new core subscriber, or convert people like me over to it.
So you didn't post clips from the actual podcast episode? Like shorts and reels? That seems to be the way forward nowadays, at least that's what I'm seeing a lot on my feed
The plan was to post shorts and reels of clips from the episode the week of leading up to the drop day of Friday but the person who was supposed to be doing that didn’t
We did make 3, we just don’t have the time to devote to something that isn’t working. For reference our RUclips was monetized in 30 days with like 25k subs
I don't think that it's a failure of the people you brought in or any of that, but more just your lane/industry not being as compatible with podcasting. Renovation and construction is a really visual medium, which is why your shorts and YT exploded so quickly. People want to click and see the "$1 house", the "worst house in Detroit" or "flipping a $20,000 house into $200,000". By contrast, hearing someone describe or talk about it in an audio format just isn't as compelling - which isn't the case for say, comedy, health or news podcasts. Who knows, maybe the podcast could come back in a different form down the line, but I think you hit the nail on the head by saying that as construction company 1st, media company 2nd, something like a podcast just doesn't have the same benefit for you guys as it does for influencers or content creators.
"Just because you CAN do it, doesn't mean you SHOULD do it." Great lesson!
Thank you!
You can't expect a podcast to be huge after the first episode
I didn’t think I could expect RUclips to be either but it worked immediately for us
At the same time I’ve never met a successful contractor who cared about RUclips , podcast, office image

You still are putting out a good product for all of us to watch you'll gain that loss back in no time in closing thank you very much
...where's the new office? You guys needed to be out by December 31st? Updates!!
Video is coming!
This video was recorded before they had to move out

We figured that, so we’re sticking to our lane

Thank you Jay, I appreciate that. Hoping to continue the growth into the new year!
Your visits to job sites are fascinating and FUNNY! Sitting at a table can't compete. Next time you have a marketing idea, ASK US FIRST!
Exactly - we're your favorite fans, we'll give you our honest opinions!

We’re actually filming something just like this on Tuesday!
Live and learn. Also the road noise can be minimized by noise canceling audio processing. Keep up the good work making Detroit great again!
I didn’t realize that, I’m not a computer or editing guy 😂 but good to know for future!
Having realistic timelines matters too. Some podcasts take months or several years to ramp up an audience. That said, there's already several million too many in existence.
I agree with both, it’s over saturated and I feel like we’re much better at our videos

You do understand that you need to build a following not quit after one episode.
I understand I have nearly 60k subscribers and 200 of them watched our podcast, that’s a bad percentage

Are you planning on doing recordings when you guys are working on a building? I'm sure many would also love a time-lapse or a before and after video.
you guys forgot to add end card jsyk
Thank you! We’ll update
Maybe should have done a separate channel for it and give it a chance to grow without hurting your main channel.
We did think about that as well but then it became one more thing I didn’t have time to fully manage lol
This!
That’s a shame I hope you guys try it again in the future. The amount of interesting guests you could get in Detroit feels like a waste.

@@SanbornConstructionGroup I see. Appreciate the videos you guys have made so far. Greetings from Sweden :)
Love Detroit, enjoy your videos
Glad you like them!
U could have just gave your office to someone else and use an easier location if there was 1
I would have kept my office if it wasn’t for a podcast, but we’ve. Over buildings now!
Do it once a month-schedule it. But to invest that money and toss it after one try seems short sighted
Our head media guy thinks we should play around with just a 2/month short Spotify version
Yall are great workers on homes tho
I appreciate that!
I would have tried making more podcast episodes before pulling the plug. It takes time to build an audience.
We did make 3, we just don’t have the time to devote to something that isn’t working. For reference our RUclips was monetized in 30 days with like 25k subs

You live and you learn....Sad for that table, it was a BEEFY PIECE. Now it is beefy pieces.
I still have the table!

That is very well put, and it’s a lot of the same conclusions we came to. I think you’re right about it too!
