One thing to keep in mind, and this could be why it felt slow, the show was in the middle of filming when all the strikes happened -- writers, actors, directors. And while the British unions are not allowed to stand in solidarity with other striking unions outside the country (they have a law against that) and all the actors are British, not all of the writers are British, and not all the directors were either. And even though all the scripts were finished before the strike, it meet that the producers could not tweak scripts as they went along the way they normally would. Condal and Hess had to stay on purely in a producer role (they didn't feel good about staying on, but Equity wasn't allowed to stand in support of SAG-AFTRA because of that British law. Condal said if they had left the set, they'd have gone on and made the show with him and Hess.)
And there is the fact that they were given fewer episodes this season (HBO would only greenlight 8 instead of 10), and less money. So rather than the 2 big battles they had planned this year, they had to cut it down to one and sort of stretch the season out to meet the timeline of that one battle; in Game of Thrones, the big episodes were usually ep 4 or 5, ep 9, and ep 10, where we'd get big set pieces with lots of extra actors.
HOTD is only given $20 million an episode (down from $25m last season), which sounds like a lot, but it's only about the same as the budget of 2-1/2 feature films, and they produced the equivalent of 4-1/4 feature films this season. That's why we've been skipping battles like Burning Mill and the Dun Fort and cutting straight to the end of them. CGI dragons cost a lot, and so many of their effects are practical and done on set. So, without the budget to do the 3 big episodes and only being given 8 episodes to work with, some stories had to get cut, and others stretched out so we can get to the big battle for the finale.

I love y’all doing these discussions together 😂😂😂😂 always laughing and I may be overthinking but do anybody else think the dragons each gave their own like characteristics they are looking for because if Damon other daughter can tame the wild dragon it’s not great she not a dragon rider they just didn’t accept her also the new riders are so different like one chosen, one strong and worthy and the other kind of just surrendered to the dragon
