- You see a selection of parts from different sprinklers and 50+ years ago. The body is the mystery part. The modified brass arm from an original Rain Bird Blackbird. The sleeve and journal tube are from a Nelson Beta II design. The stops are broken and it is why I am not using it on a Nelson Beta II sprinkler. I can only use those stops in the one direction I have them set as I turned one of them over. I know this sprinkler would work a lot better with a greater pressure much like I experienced years ago in Florida off of our well pumps. The spring on the arm is kind of tight. If you did not see I cut the back off of the balanced arm to get the weight more forward and in the long run get a harder hitting arm and consequently a faster moving sprinkler. That worked and it does not operate here so well because the spring is too tight and rubber o-ring. So you will see in another video where I took and lightened that spring and got better results.
The journal tube, I put on an o-ring which slows down the motion, but gives enough stability so that it is not flopping around loosely. I am still trying to find the right combination that makes it possible for the sprinkler to perform at a faster speed that is capable for the sprinkler. I will also make another test with a nylon washer above the o-ring which is movement restrictive. I want to test the effect that the nylon washer will have on the movement operation of the sprinkler.
