Path of exile needs more videos LIKE THIS! Simple, straightforward and step by step. I have probably played the game for over 1000 hours since it came out on Xbox. I consider myself a casual player, because I get bored with the grinding nature of the endgame. The problem with 75% to 90% of path of exile videos is it they are geared towards people who already know how to do what the video is supposed to be teaching you how to do. You already know how to map sustain. Now, let me tell you the most efficient way to map sustain You already know how to build a character. Now, let me show you the best character to build. The only way to demystify this game for people is to make straightforward videos like this that assume the player knows very little about the topic and aren’t filled with acronyms (I could go on a whole rant about content creators using far too many acronyms and abbreviations ) 😂
The time stamp thing isn't working for some reason yet, idk why. Probably takes RUclips some time to be able to do it. Check the description in the meantime.
Hey just found your video. Timestamps are still not working for this video. No problem. Just youtube weirdness :) Thanks for the guide! Can't wait to try it all out this weekend!
It would be good to mention that now in Harvest you can easily reroll bad map mods or upgrade normal maps to rare using harvest crafting and not worry too much about spending alchemy and chaos orbs
I'm more than half-way though the atlas and JUST figured that out yeaterday. People need to mention it more often. Obviously in this video he wanted to stick to core mechanics and not be too league-specific. But good to know for sure
I'm new to the game. I don't know anyone who can do succinct explanations as you do. Thank you for taking the time to keep it all simple to understand. You've relieved me of my PTSD when I first looked at the global map that was all greyed out and I had no idea what I was supposed to do.
Wow this video was incredibly helpful. You were very thorough and insightful; not a second of my time was wasted watching that. I’m excited to try out some of your tips later tonight! It’s really nice to have a strong and outgoing community to support such a complex game.

just run new maps and know how to complete your atlas. After that you will have no problems with maps. But when you struggle you can also do blighted maps for some maps or Lab. :)
This was hands down the most helpful video about the atlas/maps that I've found. Most of the others from the big name streamers skipped over pretty much all of this and assumed that you know what all this is.
I have played this game for like 300 hours and finaly understanded all of it . Thanks ! Btw nice build guides in this channel , realy powerfull . Keep up the great work !
I know this video is quite old, but I needed this so much! I had a major problem sustaining and this did wonders for me. Tnx for all the awesome content. This is so helpful, i was struggling to get higher maps, all i ended up getting was t5 constantly even when doing t5, ill try all this when i get back from work and hopefully it helps me next league too
Hey Big Ducks. I have been following all the OG poe content creators for years now and am glad to have added you to the list! Great informative content for everyone! Thanks mate. Keep it up!
Good content and clear explanations. I'm still at a stage where I'm just trying to improve my build so that I feel confident in high-tier maps. I'll probably come back to this at a later date.
The Barrel sextant can actually be pretty good. Depends what you get though. Also get used to dying here and there on juiced maps. You're gonna say "Wtf just killed me???!!" Quite a bit, but it's worth it.
Great guide. I just started getting into high tier maps, and I have been having trouble getting high tier maps. I have completed all the bonus objectives up to lv 12/13 so far and I am trying to compete all of them.
Holy shit, I play this game for a few years now and I actually didnt know you can see your objectives when alt-pressing maps...this makes everything so much easier....I have to go now...
Hey BD, I actually watch this video to relax-thank you for sharing and Happy Holidays. So. When you describe why Einhar is useful, you say "Glass Can Chans" or something... I think Einhar's experience as a Roadie and being an additional Summon that does damage is why he is good to have around. :-)
Helped me alot thanks, I was mainly focused on getting over 100 maps cleared which is the most important thing like you said, but I ignored every other mechanic. thanks!
Good vid. The only thing I didnt see you mention, and I may have missed it cause I did jump ahead a bit, is adding prophecies. They can add a decent amount of mobs to a map for little investment. In being a Karen and reminding you about these, I am also being a hypocrite because I am incredibly good at forgetting them myself.
Last couple days i was looking for a BV build and how to craft a explode chest and now that i need a map sustain guide to farm seeds faster, YOU'RE HERE TOO??? what's the next coincidence?
This video helped alot. Ive been having a ton of trouble getting maps to drop. Thanks for the video. Also the tip with the 4 chisels on white maps was a great tip, I had no idea.
One thing I haven't heard people talk about, is that if you're doing the challenges you need to find a balance. For example, you can do things so it takes an hour or more per map. But if you need to do a couple thousand maps to get a challenge, that's not practical. I find that chiseling, alchemy, and getting all the bonuses+awakening bonuses is enough. I rarely use sextants or scarabs, only in special cases like when a scarab is for a challenge. I get my 40 challenges done in just under a month, so it seems to work for me.
On top of this map mods also apply to the grove. Meaning if you harvest lifeforce in a upgraded map you get more lifeforce and i think more items too :)
2 MORE TIPS: 1. After evry single map with Zana mission (you dont need run map if you dont whana, just activate on shity map) gives you RESET of shes shop offer. You can use it to grab some maps that you need to compleate bonus or find some influenced/unique maps. Most of trades are for chance orbs/alhcs/chaos. Be careful with buing expensive guardian/unique maps. Sometimes the price on market is significantly lower. 2. There is a site that allow to exchange maps betwen players. If you have done most of maps on some tier, and you need 2-4 maps to compleate that tier you can just exchange with other players. Site is called PoeMap. Be careful on spam if you list too many things in one time.
doesn't matter what your bonus and awakening objective bonus completion is at if you don't say what your map awakening level is. If you're doing those 10 tier16 maps with awakening level 1 and have a loot filter to hide out-leveled maps, then you'll not see much map t16 map sustain. Don't forget to add your map favorites on the side as well.
@@QuockaFlocka Awakening lvl 8. Puting a T16 map as favourite map don't make t16 more common. And a T16 map can't be an outleveled map, and, obiously, my filter doesn't count t14-15 as outleveled. When I said "not a single map" I meant T15-16.
1. Yes, if we're talking about a 1 map sample size, then it's unlucky but not far from unexpected. You'll average out in a 10 map sample size. 2. Adding a T16 map as a favorite increases the odds of your maps dropping when a map drop rolls and that means you have a higher chance at getting better t16:t15:t14 ratio than if you didn't have a t16 map favorited. If you're trying to sustain T16 maps, then you definitely want as few t14 maps dropping relative to t15 and t16 since only unique bosses from t14 can drop t16 maps.
One of the best map sustain aspects is Zana's store. Buy all of her maps, then, when you open a map with a Zana mission chosen, her store gets restocked again.
I dunno I have been investing in maps, and here is an example. I got a t16 Geode Map, chiseled it up to 20%, alched it, Vaaled it, and had 4 watchstones not only in Lira Arthain but in the surrounding areas. I a t3 Shore map from that investment. For every 4-5 t11+ map that I invest in I get maybe 1 t11 or higher map. Shore is on the other side of the map! Edit: I used 3 Sacrifice to the map as well.
One thing as it was refered in the video when u vaal a map u can increase the tier, he didn't mentioned that changed the location of the map, not the zone but the map name and this is important for 2 things first might be a layout that u don't like (indoors), second and most important it hinders your progress cause u might already done that map and if u wanna be fast to completee u should repeat maps if possible. This is why sometimes I don't vaal maps while I am completing the athlas
I try as much as possible to SFF maps, even though I am not on SFF. Main reason is that it helps you understand how maps drop and not relying on trades. Also if I do trade maps, 95% of players does not reply. With the current league, I am able to reach 120+ completion and 20 watchstones with less than 10 trades of maps (Except for t15 beach head which I use for leveling)
item quant doesnt affect map drops btw this was cleared out by chris wilson during 1 podcast and was the reason why bisco's collar went down in price/ not popular anymore for map sustain
nice vid. just one thing, at 15:40 you said something about barrels being useless. If you get the barrels mod and use it in a Vaults of Atziri map you will get tons high quality drops.
item rarity is not important against map drops, but there is data on grinding high rarity vs high quantity and actually i believe high rarity gives great results even tho the usual understanding and consensus is against it. but still just understanding the core concepts + just playing the game will get you through and give u hundreds and thousands of maps
Awesome video, although I didn't need most of it, it was enjoyable to watch. Great content for people who are new. I know I would love that kind of video when I started playing.
Actually answered all my questions thank you. Was wondering why only white maps are dropping, poe atlas introduction for new players should be little bit more than that in actual game, it just says plug your watchstones in your little box and go kill something.
Yo don't diss the barrel sextant, the barrels actually have really good drops, especially if it's the worm barrels. Unless you have a build that doesn't really explode the chests by itself, a summoner for example.
Are you telephatic or something? I was reading guides regarding maps sustaining. They were all about juicing but they missed one important detail - the less tiers on the atlas then you get better sustains. It worked for me. Otherwise heavy juicing might be furtile without it. So for example 2 stones in the inner circle and 1 in the outer circle.
Oh ok. So I should at least spread them enough to have all tiers represented. Time to go make some adjustments then. Keep up the good work! Love your stuff :)
I have the same issue. I have 16 watchstones and I’m not sure where to put them. In the slots where is says “obtained”? When running T15/16 maps with watchstones I still can’t get influence anymore. The conquerors won’t show up.
@@stefanoslan the game clearly helps you in the quest list - it says for example "search regions with 4 socketed watchstones". Hover over the citadel and if all 4 lines are "obtained" - you're done with it. move your stones elsewhere.
Heyo! I don't know if I missed you saying you can purchase maps from Zana after completing her missions :) This was really important for me for progression and a lot of new players might not know. Have an amazing week! Great video!
I just saw this video in 3.12 on a time that I thought contracts are squeezing out the drop rate of maps for me, which I completed 154/154 in delirium and 153/154 in harvest. So I thought maybe I am missing some basics and the previous experiences were just dumb luck. It turned out that it is me chasing the conquerors too hard that I placed all my 16 watchstone in the centre 4 areas, making me get no more drops between T5 to T13, before I build up enough cache for T14+
Great presentation ! Any chance you could offer us some explanation about the difference between Awakener level 5 and 8 Sirus and how the conqueror encounters differ between those levels and before ? Thanks and be well :-)
I havent done much mapping in conquerors of the atlas. Im still curious about the mechanics of maps dropping when you first socket watchstones. Can any t4 lead to a t5 beach drop, for example? Great video though i will incorporate these tips
To my understanding if you have finished the beach map then yes, it can be dropped from any map that is one tier lower. However, maps that you haven't completed can be only gotten by playing maps that are "next to" them. The absolute main goal when you are mapping is to do bonus objectives. If you are missing a certain map it is also a good idea to just buy those maps from other players. This way you will steadily continue your progress. I have pretty much done all the bonus missions from Atlas this league and when I am mapping with pretty much zero investment (I am just alching and chiseling my maps) I usually get around 2-3 map drops per map.
The fact that rarity doesn't help map or currency drops is news to me. Thanks for pointing that out. Guess I better stop buying the "quantity also applies to rarity" maps from Zana...
Just a heads up you can get special circumstance drops cause I got a tier 13 unique map in my first ever map. It was dropped from a unique strongbox alongside two other tier 3 unique maps. I'm assuming this was just a random loot drop outside of the in-map rules like I could have looted in a heist or just from any other unique strongbox.
That moment when the juiced map is for me a "normal" map. Lul. For me is a juiced map as follows: Delirium Orbs, Awakened sextants with "Beyond, Currency items from rare monsters, Additional Breach/legion and Hunter treasures", with Scarabs like "Additional 3 breach, 3 harbinger, 150/250% more divination cards and more uniques/legion/metamorph. As extra unique watchstones with packsize and sometimes for a t19 map the 3 other ones. For maxmal output I choose nemesis and also Alva for a lot of loot. :D Its a lot of investment, yeah, but holy moly those maps are awesome
Honestly the easiest one to do is promenade since you can orb of Horizon any T16 map into it (there's only 3 different possibilities). But my opinion is if your target farming another map just sell the ones you get that you don't want and buy the ones you do. Probably the simplest way.
What the favorite system does is basically add any map you favorite 10x into the loot pool, so if you favorite a map 3x, you'll have a 31 to "however many other maps of that tier are on the atlas"-chance of getting that map. Means your best two options imho are, either favorite 2-3 different maps of each tier (t14-t16) 3x each and you'll be able to easily run only maps you've favorited, or favorite the map you want 3x and remove watchstones from your other regions until there are as little maps of the same tier on the atlas as possible, and then you can build a huge pool of that map as you'll have something like a 31:4 chance (depending on how many maps of that tier you still have on your atlas) of dropping the map you've favorited with each map drop of that tier. Also, get high map quant, alch every map, reroll them to 60%+ quant without chisel, 75%-80%+ with chisel and vaal them, it's worth it, vaal orbs are super cheap these days, chisels are debatable, very expensive atm but prob still worth.
i can litteraly sustain my t 14-16 with awakener lvl 5 about 90/154 and 30/154 and i rarely do more than chisle-alch (and vaal for bonus) Soo im not making that much currency but map sustain is almost never a problem with the new atlas
My issue is currently, that i got somehow a bunch of Watchstones, yet if i socket them, most my Maps i have are then to low in lvl to either spawn a Quonquorer or drop higher tiers of maps. I barely after a couple of days managed to get up to 8 Watchstones, and now i'm stuck. Worst thing in my opinion, that this new system devalues your entire map pool ou accumulated when you have to socket stones to progress. As a new player, this does cost me double time and ressources to somehow manage, which made me quit the last time around.
im new to the game so this is a lot of help, btw what happens to the tier1-4 maps that i havent unlock can i still finish it and get the bonus coz i got 8watchstones now and those nodes are now replaced with tier 6-9 maps? ty
question: you said you should be able to see the map you wanna do on the atlas to get any drops. does that include the map tier? like if i run a crimson temple map tier 11 but only see a tier 13 on the atlas, would i still yield maps outta it?

Quant from items does not effect map drops, "item quantity" on the actual map does
Thank you for the tips.. this is a big help a beginner like me.. hope to see more
nice vid. just one thing, at 15:40 you said something about barrels being useless. If you get the barrels mod and use it in a Vaults of Atziri map you will get tons high quality drops.
Good simple breakdown. I needed a brush up.
There is a special place in PoE heaven for creators like you!
I knew all on this video, but yet I enjoy it all
This was a eye opener. Thank You
item rarity is not important against map drops, but there is data on grinding high rarity vs high quantity and actually i believe high rarity gives great results even tho the usual understanding and consensus is against it.
but still just understanding the core concepts + just playing the game will get you through and give u hundreds and thousands of maps
Awesome video, although I didn't need most of it, it was enjoyable to watch. Great content for people who are new. I know I would love that kind of video when I started playing.
In my opinion you are the best creator of guides for PoE.
My god, thanks so much for this super clear explanation. amazing! :)
This is like learning business - the more you invest, the greater the outcome.
I'd like to see more time spent on watchstone allocations. Do I stack them all to max as I go? Or spread them out evenly across the zones?
This is covered by "Make sure that you have all tiers available for drops."
Oh ok. So I should at least spread them enough to have all tiers represented. Time to go make some adjustments then. Keep up the good work! Love your stuff :)
@@sambobsam alternatively just buy cheap ivory watchstones to get A8 as fast as possible, then replace with regular watchstones as you can
I have the same issue.
I was just searching for a vid on this. Great timing
OMFG i will subscribe, 1st monster i kill following your tips and i got dropped exalted orb :O
Excellent video Big D!
Any suggestions on initial watchstone placements for progressing through your atlas?
middle first, outside second. u have more maps in the inside so u have a higher chance of getting some of em faster.
Amazingly informative video. Thank you!
your great. im playing a lot and your information its like gold, time its important in this game.
This is like learning a foreign language. Good video though. Much appreciated
Heyo! I don't know if I missed you saying you can purchase maps from Zana after completing her missions :) This was really important for me for progression and a lot of new players might not know. Have an amazing week! Great video!
I'm a new player thx for the vid. Explained alot.

Great video Ducks.
Good video, well edited
Sweet guide buddy!
Do you have a channel where you use that keyboard in the background? :)
I appreciate this. Thank you!
@@KingOfBlades27 Also remember that you can vendor 3 maps of the same tier and type (eg, t10 Desert) and it will give you back a map of 1 tier higher.
@@tenags0708 YES! This is a great way in the start when the game is dicking around and giving you the same fucking map you have completed already xD
The fact that rarity doesn't help map or currency drops is news to me. Thanks for pointing that out. Guess I better stop buying the "quantity also applies to rarity" maps from Zana...
In start Zana is really valuable because you will get a lot of maps from her that will raise your bonus objective counter a lot.
Especially since Chance orbs aren't that expensive, makes the early maps even better to buy
Great video , love this game
Great video, nice presentation. Thank you for not putting your face cam right in the middle of the screen.
Pretty much complete your Atlas and you will get 2 map drops from one map :)
Thank you very much sir.
137 / 108
bruh look at this dude
very nice thank you
One thing you did not cover is the unique watchstones the ones dropped from awakened, are they worth using etc.
Those unique watchstones I see on POE.ninja are a mystery to me. Not sure when or where they come from.
Its a lot of investment, yeah, but holy moly those maps are awesome
What about target sustaining a t16-15 map?Using the favourite system aint cutting it, any other tips?
Honestly the easiest one to do is promenade since you can orb of Horizon any T16 map into it (there's only 3 different possibilities). But my opinion is if your target farming another map just sell the ones you get that you don't want and buy the ones you do. Probably the simplest way.
What the favorite system does is basically add any map you favorite 10x into the loot pool, so if you favorite a map 3x, you'll have a 31 to "however many other maps of that tier are on the atlas"-chance of getting that map.
Means your best two options imho are, either favorite 2-3 different maps of each tier (t14-t16) 3x each and you'll be able to easily run only maps you've favorited,
or favorite the map you want 3x and remove watchstones from your other regions until there are as little maps of the same tier on the atlas as possible, and then you can build a huge pool of that map as you'll have something like a 31:4 chance (depending on how many maps of that tier you still have on your atlas) of dropping the map you've favorited with each map drop of that tier.
Also, get high map quant, alch every map, reroll them to 60%+ quant without chisel, 75%-80%+ with chisel and vaal them, it's worth it, vaal orbs are super cheap these days, chisels are debatable, very expensive atm but prob still worth.
great video, just one thing prob i mis that point, but i should only use max tier sextants on red maps right? run yellows and whites without sextants?
you are a god, thank you
i can litteraly sustain my t 14-16 with awakener lvl 5 about 90/154 and 30/154
and i rarely do more than chisle-alch (and vaal for bonus)
Soo im not making that much currency but map sustain is almost never a problem with the new atlas
As a new player, this does cost me double time and ressources to somehow manage, which made me quit the last time around.
damn good video! thanks!
Outstanding content as always.... Question. Does lowering the awakeing level lower the xp gained running a map??
im new to the game so this is a lot of help, btw what happens to the tier1-4 maps that i havent unlock can i still finish it and get the bonus coz i got 8watchstones now and those nodes are now replaced with tier 6-9 maps? ty
thanks
Jesse, what happened to Walter?
question: you said you should be able to see the map you wanna do on the atlas to get any drops. does that include the map tier? like if i run a crimson temple map tier 11 but only see a tier 13 on the atlas, would i still yield maps outta it?
