    So, just as a datapoint, the I6 that you grabbed is actually quite close to a late-1960s Pontiac OHC I6 engine. The valve cover and headers are quite distinctive. (And, in 1968 and 1969, it was a 4.1L.)
    Personally, I liked having the 200cid Barra-predecessor engine in my '65 Mustang because the weight balance was vastly better than the balance with a V8. I can definitely see the appeal of a new head, though; in the old head design, the log-style intake manifold is cast in one piece with the head, which made carb swaps a bit tricky.

    • @fillman86
      @fillman86  Год назад +3

      Yeah, many engines are similar, and this one was a lot closer to the 70/80s i6 we had than the actual barra

    • @BrooksMoses
      @BrooksMoses Год назад

      @@fillman86 : Yup -- though I misspoke (and edited my comment to correct myself); the Pontiac engine was an overhead-cam engine, which was pretty remarkable in an era of pushrod engines! And it was very much not a truck engine, which makes BeamNG's use of it amusing. It still looks a lot like any other engine of the era though, unless one happens to recognize the details before being distracted by the GIANT TURBO.

    The barra engine is almost the same we had in Brazil, its is the most famous engine here and the one people love to tune until today, the fuel efficiency was terrible 5 KM/L urban or 8 KM/L on road
    the engine became famous because of the Chevy opala here, the power output and the reliability made the 6 cyl the best engine and that was enough to survive for years and even with ford maverick v8 the 6 cyl won in the sales and got peoples hearts and pockets and until today is the best and most used in competitions, you can even find some 2000 hp cars with the original engine block, the fueltech owner (Anderson dick) have one opala in us and constantly show and talks about it on his RUclips chanel

    The mighty intec that came before the Barra ln the falcon models up to the au were only a single cam whereas the Barra was a twin cam. The intec was still a decent motor, nothing to froth over but can still produce upwards of 600kw with supporting mods and a bit of boost. The mighty Barra on the other is again nothing special standard but with some boost can reach well over 1200kw reaching rpm over 9k. The Barra was a tank from the factory and a very thirsty one at that, but it’s the engine that makes most v8 performance vehicles break a sweat just hearing its name.

IIRC, the turbo started to kick in around 2000 RPM and he was hovering around 400-500 lb-ft. of torque. I think horsepower was over 200 but don't remember. For a smaller engine like the one here, I would probably try to pull a turbo off a mid-5L diesel to be more "correct". I miss the 300-6. Sure it wasn't meeting emission standards and Ford didn't see a reason to make it meet it, but it was reliable. I have an '89 Ford F-150 with the 300-6 and I don't take care of it, yet it still just runs and runs and runs.
