Mercedes are cash furnaces. I know plenty of people who could afford them but they steer clear. One of my close friends had a C43 AMG and he swore after 7 years of ownership he'd never buy another Mercedes again. The car was in the shop at least 5x a year after 4 years of ownership.
@@dimmacommunication I don’t think any Bentley looks like a drug kingpin’s car, and I’ve inspected and been inside every modern Bentley. The S-Class is great for a few years, until all those crazy infotainment screens won’t even be able to handle the ever-increasing memory requirements of new OS updates. Built-in obsolescence right there. Nothing dates an interior faster than technology. Furthermore, that crazy ambient lighting is going to reflect off of all of your interior window surfaces making it more of a distraction than anything.
Great review! I've had the Mercedes ornament on the hood for over 10 years and its never been stolen nor tampered with. That's what defines a Mercedes-Benz. Most enthusiasts prefer it rising on the hood.
This is quite literally my dream car! Sometimes when I’m in school I’ll spec an s580 executive and dream about one day owning one. If I were to have one i would want it exactly like this one, I love that color!
I ain't buying any car for over $100,000 unless it is bullet and dent proof😂. Just spent $70 grand buying an SUV for the mrs and that's insane. But I draw the line at 6 figures for a vehicle, especially when you live in the city.

I just don't like the cockpit gauge setup....just looks slapped on with no design form. Also, the lack of physical controls for audio adjustments or temperature setting. That is a ZONK for me. Other than that it's a good looking vehicle

I agree with how many manufacturers need to work on designing the instrument clusters. The infotainment screens all seem to be an afterthought, as if they were attached at the end of the design, sticking up like sore thumbs instead of neatly integrated into the dash.
Agreed. The only place I think they dropped the ball was using the cluster screen from the lower-end models. It just looks cheap without a nice S Class-level surround. (Lexus really blew it here too with their miniscule LS screen.) I would have cut costs elsewhere. While the extra paint and upholstery colors are pretty cool (I think they are chasing Porsch, Jag, Bentley, etc. here), I would recommend classing the cluster screen area up on the refresh.
as far as i understand, by not integrating them into the dash they're able to reduce the overall height of the dash thus creating more space out the windshield,
@@willjam465 another reason could be that since these screens are so energy intensive they require more cooling and having them surrounded by dash material would trap heat.
Hate the rubber band tires. What's the point if you have a car designed to give you a smooth ride then you put tires on it that guarantee a bumpy ride makes no sense.

As a Mercedes Benz type of gal (currently driving the E350 convertible jet black, wood grain etc etc. Ya'll know the spill) I must say the S580 is such a beauty in my opinion. My heart skip a beat every time I look at it. I’m sure this car is a pleasure to drive. The color is bold which differentiates itself from the other models. I love that Raiti stayed consistent with his review style, he truly adds value to the viewer who is particular about car design/features. Raitis Rides is a car enthusiast who is not adopting the gimmicky car review style on RUclips today.
It seems like this generation of S class is going to be geared more towards the younger generation with all the digital screens and no buttons. I love it as a millennial. The only reason i chose the c class over the s class of last generation was because it looked like an old persons car inside. This one looks so modern and exciting. Thats just my opinion as a millennial getting into the brand coming from a bmw

Wow, what a horrible interior. The "ipad stuck on a dash look (and there's 2 of them), the garish blue lighting, the spinning speakers, even the way the center display flexed @12:20 when you pressed it. Its like a $299k strip club on wheels - easy to see who Benz is targeting. I bought my Benz 10 years ago, and haven't upgraded because of all this junk Mercedes has been adding.
Nice review Joe as always. The S class is a benchmark mark for luxury sedan in the world. In our market it is a super sedan for sure. Keep it for 4 years and under 60K before it start to cost you a paycheck and loans.

I'm puzzled too why they don't want to build-in those screen tv's into the dashboard nicely . All they are doing is copying Tesla's big screen tv just screwed on and sticking out of the dashboards . And wow , lol those ambient lights , are those for the kindergarten kids ? I guess the EMF's in those new cars and especially electric cars must be super high . But no one wants to talk about it .

In my Audi there is a lip over the ambient lighting which blocks being able to view it directly, it shines downwards on intended areas. With that ambient lighting, illuminating in every direction, you’re going to get distracting reflections off of windows, particularly if you tint the windows as window film reflects everything. To me, there is absolutely nothing that dates an interior faster than high tech. In five years, those same screens won’t even be able to accommodate the ever-increasing memory requirements of the various requisite Operating System updates that will happen between now and then. That’s built-in obsolescence right there. Quite aside from that, I am absolutely amazed the NTSB hasn’t yet stepped in and began regulating infotainment systems as these days, infotainment screens are more distracting than navigating cell phone screens while driving. Granted, I’ve only seen a few of this guy’s videos, but I also criticize this reviewer for one thing - how come he never anything bad to say about this car or anything else?!? Come on! You can always find several things about ANY car that you don’t like, that society at large won’t like, and is something that the car makers need to take care of for their next model evolution. Giving constructive criticism on any product is exactly what manufacturers need to hear in order to make better products. No more “rosy reviews”, tell it exactly how it is!
5 year old kid would enjoy being chauffeured around in one of these to his important play dates. I must say I prefer the POV style with the camera above your head for on throttle, you get to experience the drive better.
The angled gloss dashboard is atrocious. Imagine you are out driving on a sunny day. The sunlight would literally reflect off of the dash, straight into your eyes! What was Mercedes thinking?!?

This S-class is a step under the new BMW 7 Series. BMW 7 Series was engineered by Rolls Roys and the shape and the size of the car how smooth it drives, makes the new BMW to outperform the s-class.
Low profile tyres are the worst thing in modern cars today, I have an S class and the difference in 17 VS 19/20 inch wheels is insane both in comfort and reliability on the road

I actually own a 580 china blue , absolutely beautiful, love the feel of the ride. I was a little intimidated by the length but whit the rear axle steering there is no problem parking it. I’m very spoiled.
Having been in the Limo biz, I've spent many hours in an S Class. The interiors are luxurious to the eye. Not only me, but also my clients noted that the interiors don't "feel" luxurious. They simply have that old Teutonic business-like edge. And that's why I love Lexus. Of course, to get the best rich interior feel, you gotta go Land Rover.

Those slap-on, aftermarket interior screens are an absolute deal-breaker for me. It’s otherwise a pretty good car.

Having been in the Limo biz, I've spent many hours in an S Class. The interiors are luxurious to the eye. Not only me, but also my clients noted that the interiors don't "feel" luxurious. They simply have that old Teutonic business-like edge. And that's why I love Lexus. Of course, to get the best rich interior feel, you gotta go Land Rover.
