I tried the same in my boat but laid it in the other direction so the top layer ribs are cross ways not fore to aft. This overcomes much of the grip issue. Also the under layer then runs fore to aft to allow liquids to drain to the transom. Regarding feel under foot. Initially i totally agree that is feels soft and comfy BUT after a few hours on the boat my feet get literally bruised from the ribs so bad i had to take it out. So much promise. What did i go with? Large gym foam jigsaw mats. A bit like the foam camping mats that click together but 1m x 1m and cut to fit around everything AND 30-40mm thick. Seriously comfy, replaceable and easy to lift out to wash after a trip, light, different colours, easy to stand up and stack in between trips and the 30-40mm thickness means you can actually leave a section down under the transom without them and make it splash zone so that annoying deck water stays down there at a ,lower level than the floor until you drain it out with your scuppers.

The problem with most of these options is that they will hold water and moisture in areas you don't want it and that will then cause putting and corrosion. Plate boats need to be kept extremely dry to avoid issues, it's a shame. And yes agree the matting becomes bloody hard after a while. I suspect the rubber actually gets brittle over time also.

@@BaitBallin i just unclick the floor when I get home hose the deck and the pieces which are closed cell foam so no water soaks into them. They’re stored in the boat vertically in a small stack so absolutely no trapped water at all that’s my point. And given they begin life as a 1m x 1m tile and cut to fit the boat my 7.7m plate deck is 8 or nine pieces total.

The other thing I did based on advice from someone who had tube mat flooring was sealing the open ends of each tube with a small blob of silicone so no deck or hose off water gets in the tubes themselves. As the mat ages they actually get smelly according to some guys up my way.

How deep are the crevices? Can your mate dig out a small sinker easily? A sinker or hook can burn a hole in your boat right? (electrolysis?). Other than that I like the look. I need floor on mine, but might go for bunnings marine carpet with the closed cell foam tiles from bunnings underneath it, that should cover chequer plate also I imagine. Being slippery is a serious safety issue.
    Enjoying your videos mate.

Got the tube mat in my BC and I have no problems with it but I find I pull it up and wash the deck underneath as you said bits of bait and stuff end up sticking to deck also drying out of the boat helps the key it to keep clean but definitely more comfortable on the feet especially on a cold day
Hope your op was a success and quick recovery 🤟

Love your candid videos as I'm learning a lot as I wait for my 1st BC (only the small one, but it's what I can fit in the garage & most of my fishing is done inshore on WP). Only 3 months to wait now. This video makes me glad I didn't go for the tube matting when I ordered mine.Decided to get a storm cover to fit with the bimini & side clears & was hoping you could do a video of yours or give some advice as it will probably save me some "wish I'd done that.." after it's made. The only thing I specified was that the snaps are fitted below the gunwale bumper, as they'd shear off when docking. Can you add any other advice? Wishing you a speedy recovery, and keep your videos coming? Thanks, Peter

thanks Peter, yeah the day we start getting too serious would be the day I stopped enjoying doing it. What you have done is the right way to go, always better to get the clears and Bimini made at same time. there aren't really any wrong ways to do it, highly reccomend some rocket launcher rod holders on top of the Bimini. nothing wrong with a small BC, very good boats in all sizes and who knows I may go smaller (or bigger 😜) oneday myself. thanks and all the best, heaps more videos coming. aboutto really ramp this channel up

Had a good chuckle over the socks hahah
Ive had this rubber in previous boats and had carpet too, far better than carpet in my opinion.
Yes you do need to pull it up and clean it…so what big deal it’s not a deal breaker that’s for sure
I haven’t found it to be slippery when getting just wet …Maybe try different shoes or bare feet

Thanks for doing the video about it one thing that all the plate boats could do like mine you've got a plain aluminum floor and then they paint it with a absolute ungodly durable anti-skid paint damn near the exact same thing that's on the deck of an aircraft carrier even kind of helps sound-deadening it if you're not a foam filled boat I couldn't deal with it on my boat being a charter boat with kids and people dropping stuff lifting that up to clean underneath it after every single day would just be murder you always want what you don't have I wish I had a checkered plate deck instead of paint sometimes but then I see yours and you're not utilizing the checkered plate but you're doing something else I'd be all over just the Checker plate deck but bar Crusher could use plain aluminum and paint the deck in a tread pattern instead it's all a learning curve and figuring out what works for you that would never work for me I was one that asked you about that so I'm glad you did the video I hurt my shoulder too and it's affecting my Daily Grind of fishing and stuff like that I did a backflip over a tree stump and landed on my shoulder that was injured 10 years ago and of course 10 years ago I did nothing about it so now at almost 60 years old that's now it's really a problem but I'll get over it and keep trudging on

all good Dave! yes my sternum was so bad that I was having serious breathing issues etc so its totally disconnected on one end! basically floating. not sure what my arm movement will ever be again, but being able to breathe had to come first. checker plate is good stuff, I do really like it. but I'm hobbling around on stuffed hips and lumbar spine also, so needed some comfort. it's a weird thing being 40 and having a totally stuffed body.
yeah I cleaned under the matting the other day and the junk there was astounding. alot.

@@BaitBallin Well, just a observation of mine is; If you're limited yourself, I'd want to find me a serious ''crack crew''. not newbies. There's gotta be big snappers, kingfish, and other species around, besides just looking for Marlin, way out. if there's a local fishing club near you, go join it. go to the meetings, and swap fishing trips with other serious anglers. a lot of my past learning was in direct connection to the fishing club I've been a member of for 33 yrs.

hahaha yes good observation, unfortunately it mainly comes down to who can get away and help me with the boat. in next few years I will scale down my other work and do this full time. but between now and then it's a transition. but yes, when the marlin and tuna are on need a good team for sure

The cheaper tube matting will actually bake onto the ally if it gets hot enough while parked up, but looks like you keep the storm cover on most of the time when not in use so you shouldn't have a problem.
I had some in my old boat HH Patriot for a couple of years, it was in it when I bought it, it eventually started to break away from each other, the top tubes actually broke away from the bottom tubes, but it probably was the cheaper version. I ended up putting those bunnings grey foam interlocking tiles down, cut it neatly to suit and just replaced each tile as necessary when it got damaged.
Speedy recovery mate and more vids🤙.... Top effort.

Why did you choose the bar crusher over an extreme

    • @BaitBallin
      @BaitBallin  3 года назад

mainly the layout and ergonomics of the dash, layout, front opening window, a few other things. also price + proximity to dealers for servicing etc. dont think you can really go wrong either way though tbh.... ultimately it was a very close decision.
