- From the old Speed Channel, Johnny Hayes interviews Dick Hutcherson at the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame.
Hutcherson's career evolved from driver, fabricator to crew chief at Holman Moody in the late 1960's. In the early 1970's, he stepped into the role of general manager. By the mid 1970's "Hutch" partnered with Eddie Pagan and started his own fabrication company. Hutcherson-Pagan built oval track stock car chassis for NASCAR and USAC teams, most notably A.J. Foyt.
What a cool guy
Had a friend that worked for Hutcherson _ pagan enterprises and got to meet him, I was fortunate to see the shop where they built cars and parts. I'm big on history and have seen alot of it on a more local way, had so much fun!
Was there in the mid 70s buying chassis parts and Dick offered me a job working in the fab shop. I was building late model chassis.s in eastern NC then. I still remember him telling me about all the chassis he had to build for A.J. Foyt and others.
Dick was my great grandfather but he passed a month before I was born. My grandma still talks about him all the time and watching this just brings a smile to my face.
I looked up the records to see who won the NASCAR race the weekend before I was born, and it was Dick Hutcherson. Then I looked to see who won the next weekend, and it was Dick Hutcherson again! This was in early '66.

It was fun to watch dick. Brought back a ton of memories.
Cool guy, never knew much about him, and then to find out he was part of the Le Mans sweep.
I remember watching Dick and brother Ron race on dirt back in Iowa when I was a teenager. I also met him once at a Ford event in Monterey. He is one of my all time racing heros. Thanks for posting this video it brought back a lot of really good memories.
I'm not a racing fan, but Dick Hutcherson and his wife were good friends years ago. We had some great poker games which I most always lost; 'didn't stand a chance against the Champ! Miss him.
Dick and Johnny... Great Guys
