The ability to perceive art (as well as creative possibilities and relationships in life and art) depends principally upon the understanding and insight of the observer. Paraphrased from Schoenberg.
Great performance, but am I mistaken in thinking that 99% of the listening public would find this piece intolerable? To most ears, it's pretentious nonsense, complexity for it's own sake. I have nothing against dissonance- Britten's nocturnal is a haunting masterpiece. It seems that this proves that guitar has given up trying to attempt something like broad appeal. This music only has a place amongst insiders, those bored with the traditional repertoire. But I'll take anything by Torroba or Ponce anyday over this crap piece.
" Those bored with the traditional repertoir ". Someone has to love em too ya know, they are humans. Listening and playing Asturias for the millionth time can get a bit frustrating.
if you don't like, ignore it. people are different. people like different things. if you have some sort of musical philosophy, express it with your music. maybe someone will like it as much as I like this.
I'm not really sure about what you mean by "pretentious nonsense". There's such a sense of perfection and accomplishment in the architecture of this music: it's just "complex" and it needs a little effort from the public. But trust me, the idea that everything should be "simple", "emotional", "immediate" is probably the biggest lie of our post-modern "culture".
