Wow, you lived in Hayward? I bet that was wonderful! When did you live there? What was it like to live there? We only visited once a year and ever since i was little wished I could've lived there. It was just so happy and beautiful! I know, vacations are happy usually, but it really did (and still does) have a really fun/happy vibe about it :)

I was born and raised in Hayward, graduating from High School and joining the Air Force in 1976.
Hayward was the typical small town, everybody knew everybody and the good and bad that goes with that. I no longer live there but want to move back.
But lack of housing is an issue as it is either old run down houses or expensive properties in the outlying areas. I get it, the area is wonderful in that regard. My son, grandson and I spend the November hunting season with my brother in law.
I can speak on this issue as being a Hayward native with authority. The economy of Hayward, with some exceptions, is a three legged stool of logging, tourism, and welfare. I can't be any more blunt than that, but it is what it is.
As I retire I will be spending more time in my beloved hometown and I miss it terribly.

Thanks for sharing! Yes, I've heard that Sawyer county is the poorest county in Wisconsin but don't know that for sure--so your description of the economy doesn't surprise me. As a person who's always loved it as a vacationer -- and now, finally! Having a little property there, I get your point about the housing. From what I've seen even the small houses in town are going for a lot of money for what they are. To me it seems like there's alot of generational wealth there: families that have owned resorts for 80 years etc.. But again, I'm an outsider looking in on the day to day of Hayward. Maybe you could find some place close like Winter to get a house in that's affordable? Idk -- But I'm glad to hear that you will be going back. It's still as beautiful as ever! There's just something about it... :)

Btw--not sure why that one line of type has a line through it, so sorry for that! I didn't try to do that! LOL
